The Orville Library Edition pt.1:
amzn.to/3QLyYgX
The Orville is a breath of fresh air in the sci-fi genre, effortlessly blending humor, heart, and high-stakes space exploration. Seth MacFarlane's brainchild strikes the perfect balance between homage to classic space operas and a witty, contemporary narrative.
The show's strength lies in its characters, each one a unique and lovable addition to the diverse crew. The chemistry among the cast is palpable, making every moment, whether comedic or dramatic, resonate with authenticity. MacFarlane's Captain Ed Mercer leads with a perfect mix of charisma and vulnerability, creating a protagonist you can't help but root for.
The Orville's writing is a standout feature, weaving intricate plots with social commentary and clever humor. It fearlessly tackles relevant issues while maintaining a sense of optimism and hope, mirroring the best traditions of the sci-fi genre. The special effects are top-notch, creating visually stunning scenes that rival big-budget productions.
What sets The Orville apart is its ability to surprise and delight. It's not afraid to take risks, keeping viewers on the edge of their seats while delivering moments of genuine emotion. Whether you're a hardcore sci-fi fan or just looking for a captivating and entertaining series, The Orville is a journey worth taking. In a universe filled with options, The Orville stands out as a shining star in the vast expanse of television. Welcome to Talking The Orville! Where a fan can be a fan... ENJOY WHAT YOU LIKE.

Charly Burk's sacrifice to save the Kaylon in "Domino" (S3 E9) is reminiscent of Spock's sacrifice to save the Enterprise in "Wrath of Kahn", and reminds us all that "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one...".

@Reginald Barclayand Barclay wasn't? Seriously, Charlie was a troubled genius who was a bigot because she lost someone she loved in the war. She wasn't a Mary Sue because she was deeply flawed and those flaws were shown, and in the end she was given her redemption. Either out of selfishness or out of duty and honor is to be debated. And one can say that Issac saving her was out of self preservation rather than duty and honor, but he also prevented her death to save the lives of others. And he showed mercy. He could have easily killed that Machlan, he didn't, he showed the man some level of mercy so he and Charlie could save his people and create some Peace. In the end, her sacrifice was a Nobel one. She knew they were screwed, and she stayed behind to save others. Again rather it was out of a sense of honor or not can be debated.

When you mentioned about people being people, it reminds me of another series: Cowboy Bebop. In that series despite the advances in technology (travelling from one planet to another is like travelling from one major city to another now), people are still people and have many of the same problems that we have now (such as organized crime, drugs, and poverty). BTW, the situation of many sci-fi series being part of The Orville has a precedent in "Legion of Super-Heroes." In the Threeboot Legion (set in the 31st Century) they had many 20th Century comic books that the young people were reading and trying to emulate. It turned out that the Threeboot Legion was from Earth-Prime that is supposed to be this world and they were reading the comic books being published now. This led to a nice twist when Superboy-Prime (from Earth-Prime) returned to the present and was confronted by his adoptive parents. His father asked him "Is this you?" On the table in from of him was all of the comic books that Superboy-Prime appeared in, showing all of the evil things he did (including killing several Teen Titans, helping to destroy the Multiverse, killing Superboy, killing 32 Green Lanterns, killing the original Superman, killing a Guardian of the Universe, and leading a wholesale assault on Earth in the 31st Century). The issue ends with him reading the very comic book he appearing in right then.

All excellent points. Although, there have often been hiccups to these sorts of connections. Take the JAG-verse (NCIS-verse) for instance. On NCIS, Tony once made reference to "Magnum P.I." (the old Tom Selleck version) existing within the JAG/NCIS-verse as a TV show. Likewise, the cast of the NEW rebooted "Hawaii Five-0" also referenced the old "Magnum P.I." as a TV show that existed in their reality--which also happened to be a shared reality with the JAG/NCIS-verse, as "Hawaii Five-0" twice crossed over with "NCIS: Los Angeles." But hold the phone... Shortly after this, the NEW rebooted "Magnum P.I." was launched as a spin-off and sister series to the rebooted "Hawaii Five-0," thus existing in the same fictional universe as both H50 and NCIS. So, what are we to make of these references to the original Magnum on both H50 and NCIS? Mind blown, right? "Doctor Who" is another one. I'm not a big follower of the Who-verse, but I do recall reading about a crossover between "Doctor Who" and "East Enders," after "East Enders" had previously referenced "Doctor Who" as a fictional TV show. And don't even get me started on "St. Elsewhere" or Bobby stepping out of the shower on "Dallas!" ;-)

Good points, but as a professional wet blanket, I feel obligated to point out that Seinfeld and all the other shows might not have those episodes, or they might have been produced differently without those quotes. Also pigs in space in the Orville universe is a spoof of Star Wars, I decided.

  • @sixstanger00

The Doctor Who reference is likely MacFarlane's doing, as he's a big fan of the original Doctor Who series. In the Family Guy Star Wars A New Hope parody during the scene where the _Falcon_ is flying through hyperspace, Peter (Han Solo) remarks about how freaky hyperspace is. In the next shot - looking out the cockpit windows - the opening title sequence of the Tom Baker era is shown (and the DW theme plays).

She didn't behave like Dr.Who at all. David Bennet returned for 3 Dr.Whovspecials as a New Dr.Who personality using an old face... Up coming, Dr Who will be played by a Gay Black man, yeah. Who knows if the character will be portrayed as gay, straight, indifferent, etc.. Dr.Who shouldn't be getting romantic with companions anyways. Dr.Who doesn't need the romance at all for any character. Get back to Adventuring, fighting bad people and monsters. Anyways. @@galadballcrusher8182 There hasn't been enough explored in this universe to do a prequel they can simply just make another show with a different ship in the same timeline.

Not today. I have to rebuild my entire streaming setup. I was having tech issues last time. But we'll be doing a lot more streaming throughout the weeks starting sooner than later. :)

Orville was amazing within first two seasons, until it became too serious at the third season, that last season ruined this series.

Horse hockey! Excuse my French. I do get upset and carried away at times. I am part Irish, after all. I don't handle my alcohol very well, either. Which is why I always drink unsweetened ice tea.

@@BigCowProductions this isn't the 90s anymore where we peaked. Humanity is regressing slowly ever since MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, snapchat. And tinder came out. TikTok has taken it to the worst possible levels. Kids who have grown up with the internet don't know how good we had it back then. All they do is spend time online. Heck even we are forced to now since everyone's on the damn phone

It started to suck once they involve the trans movement shoving that down people’s throats instead of making entertainment. Plus if you not going to follow our customs then you don’t have the right to govern yourselfs
