Star Trek Discovery 96% Rotten Tomatoes Critics Score for Brother | Let the Access Media Games Begin

Ойын-сауық

Star Trek Discovery Season 2 Episode 1 "Brother" premiered on CBS all access recently and the Access Media was way ahead of the game on this one and Rotten Tomatoes is here to help. 27 Reviews total counted for the episode of Brother at time of posting. Is RT counting reviews that aren't really reviews? You don't say. Plus, I mix in some of those real folks that many in the access realm call bots. Than give me a bot any day. Will the media be different this time from tSeason 1 and season 11 of Doctor Who. Spoilers...no.

Audience scores are somewhat "fluffed" by paid or political shills as well, but yeah it beats the heck out of the critic reviews. It's not just Rotten Tomatoes too, I've noticed some extreme critic biases that go back about 70 years, although there used to be a few outliers, now the voice of critics is a chorus.

@@randomperson-up5vt You have to have a two way conversation to see if you're talking to a person, and at least get a coherent response. Why do you think they shut down the IMDB's comment section anyhow? That's because it was mostly real people explaining why either a movie (or tv show) was good and/or bad, and what was wrong with it. Couldn't have that! If you're not allowed to express yourself and let others express themselves to you, you're on a propaganda site. Simple as that.

@@fuzzywzhe yeah I get that and why i said you have to look at what they are writing in the review for audience scores. Did they just mention how amazing the show was because of woke points like its now got a female lead or did they actually write something about the movie/episode itself and why they liked it or hated it those points. No rating or review system will be perfect.

My biggest gripes on this episode: A science officer gets permission to invade the privacy of the First Officer of another ships private quarters to snoop around for no stated reason? Spock is on approved leave, Pike flies all the way back to Enterprise so Burnam can break protocol and cannon and sneak around his 1st officers quarters.. this makes no sense! Also, last season we had a space tardigrade that could somehow travel thru space, but STD got sued for stealing the entire premise from a video game, so now we conveniently find a ROCK that can do the same thing? really? a fricken rock was as creative as you can get? no wonder you were stealing ideas before, this show needs new writers. Finally, have you ever watched a kids show like Harry Potter or others and wondered why the adults were so stupid and the kids have to solve all the problems and are so much better at everything? Well, some of these new shows do that with women, the women are the hero figures and everyone else is much less intelligent and less capable. As soon as that guy disagreed with Burnam, I knew he was a dead duck. I actually liked the actor and character of Pike, but the way this show will make him look like an idiot next to our HEROINE will be extremely aggravating to watch. First episode with our new captain and Burnam has to save his life... how did he survive up till now without her help?

Burnham is Wesley x100, without any of the goofy "aw shucks" likability that Wesley had. The only Star Trek besides the original that was good from the starting gun was Voyager... and even that was a little too strongly "Women's Lib" for me, since no male character could be the one who actually solved a problem... even the ace hot-shot pilot guy couldn't be given a win without help or direction from a woman... and Discovery takes that to a whole new level!

I wonder if these "critics" even understand why the redshirts dieing is a trope? Here's a secret: it was because in TOS security officers wore red. TNG, DS9, and VOY already "subverted" that trope by making security officers wear yellow. Why are critics the least knowledgeable these days? When I was a kid TV and movie critics were bottomless pits of trivia on the film industry.

@MGazT Nostalgia aside, Discovery is just a terribly-written show. Maybe you're dazzled by the effects and the production values, but the characters, the "stories" (such as they are), and the plot are just fucking awful. Maybe they're all right to the part of the audience that enjoys the nonsensical and terribly-written plots of movies over the past 15-20 years or so, but their idea of fleshing out "complex ideas" comes down to Burnham giving a 20-30 second lecture about how the other person is wrong. Really compelling stuff right there. The first two seasons of TNG were also unwatchable because of the unnatural politics they decided to inject into the show, much like Discovery is doing. There is a big difference between now and then though, which is that a lot of the best shows from the past 15 years or so (and there have been a lot) is that they came straight out of the gate being great. There aren't 25-30 episodes per season anymore for writers to get it right *eventually* . If you removed the badging and the references to various Star Trek characters from canon, there is practically nothing identifying it with the Star Trek universe since they have changed everything within the Star Trek universe to the point it isn't recognizable. It's just another sci-fi show. Every season we get new retardedness. Last season, we had Klingons that were really more like some reptilian race (like, say, the Xindi reptilians), now we have smiling, empathetic Vulcans. Sure, whatever! But you know, I'm actually open-minded enough that maybe I wouldn't complain if it was really compelling and well-done, with real depth to the characters and the story--but it isn't.

The funny thing is that they probably haven't watched the Orville. So they base what they think people like from that show on the critic reviews where they talk about fart jokes and frat humor. They add that into STD thinking there now we're funny like those idiot viewers want. In reality people watch the Orville because it has character development for likeable people, positive societal outlook and it's social commentary is blended in a traditional Star trek way as to make the viewer think and not beat them to death with one side of an issue. In other words, they are incompetent at understanding and copying the thing that makes the Orville more Star trek than their show.

One of the reasons why red shirts get killed a lot is because 1) they're on screen more than any other color and 2) they are security so they are in dangerous situations where the get killed more spectacularly. Hey, I have already trade marked the Micheal Burnham has a red and blue suit with a cape, my Spock description was a " Children of the Corn " reference but Damien a better description. Season 1 episode, when Connelly gets ASSteroided for mansplaining, in my head I hear a wife telling a husband how to drive and the directions and he gets distracted causing them to get Hit By A MAC Truck. If you want to see Super Burnham watch the attempted beam out from the Hiawatha when Burnham gets blown into a different room. She starts running and Mission Impossible music plays in your head as she is Ethan Hunting her way through debris, but then a building is falling on her position and she stays just ahead of it as the sequence switches to Superman music and she rips of her space suit revealing an S and red cape. Wow, you are calling it right Nerdrotic. Lately they have screwed up Star Wars, Star Trek and Network TV. It is almost as if the 1 percent Rich Elite Robber Barrons that are paying for the show don't have any idea what real American like or think. The same people destroying America and paying for Propaganda on their News Outlets can't seem to hire writers, " and let them write what they know ", instead they have taken polls of their fake News and determined Societies movements and picked the leading movements caused by their Propaganda. This is almost as stupid as the large Networks thinking that people are dropping 100 channels Direct Tv for $50.00, to buy each Network for $10.00 a piece, which would cost $100.00. It is the age old argument that the 1 percent Rich want robots to replace all labor so they can make 100 percent profit. As a woman of color, I have experienced the same hostility that the character of Michael/Shanequa has experienced. For years audiences have watched white males be written as the saviors of the day. Now, that the shoe is on the other foot, the same audience is upset that a black woman is written the same way as a white male. William Shatner rarely let Nichelle Nicole's have lines and this is exactly how a lot of fan boys are treating STD! That Nimoy's Spock was superior to his crewmates was literally forced feed to fans. This goes for Data and Seven of Nine. That women in Trek have been basically eye candy especially Uhura and Troi is something no one wants to admit. To balance this out these women were given a handful of episodes in which they shined! Female fans went crazy when this happened because it proved that Uhu4a and Troi had a brain. After that, writers were more careful of how they wrote women especially Janeway. That said men have always been the center of Trek. This can be seen in the fact that CBS/Paramount offered Patrick Stewart his own series skipping over his castmates as if they were unworthy! This in light of the fact that people have begged to bring the TNG crew back! Therefore, a woman has to suffer for the poorly made decisions of mostly male writers and producers! I think fans need to take a chill pill and be happy with what they can get: a woman of color who is the Cleopatra Jones of her day!

Anyone else notice the Star Trek reboot scenes in this episode of Discovery? 1) Pike in command, comes out of warp into a field of debris 2) High speed "drop" out of a ship headed towards their destination 3) Star of the show does a "free fall" grabbing another character to control their descent to avoid death. ( 1 happened basically the same, 2 was a different take on the descent through the atmosphere and 3 was when Kirk jumped off the mining laser to save Sulu so the Enterprise could get a lock on for the transporter ) Just out of curiosity did Kurtzman just reuse his old script?

Justin White I’m almost finished with Timeless season 2 and I love it (way better than S1). Not so much sci-fi but good story, character development, music and film. Of course there are some journeys to times when women and black are treated as “less worth” than white men (which they of course let the viewers know) but there’s no preaching or lecturing like Dr Who. It’s at a realistic level. Actually Timeless is kind of a different category than the other three but I included it because I’m watching it now and think it holds a very high quality.

Many modern writers and directors don't get this little thing called subtlety. I mean, Star Trek has always been about equality and social progress, but that's the beauty of Star Trek: it never threw it in people's faces. It was just a natural, organic part of the series through the diverse casts, making sure to avoid certain tropes and phrases, and making good stories with subtle undertones of futurist or social commentary. Yet where other Star Trek series and movies approached these subjects with the precision and grace of a surgical tool, Star Trek Discovery approaches it with a busted sledgehammer. Killing off certain character types is not a Star Trek trope, it's a horror movie trope and one that is typically not done well anymore even in a sarcastic/funny type of way. A Star Trek trope would be for that character to learn that their behaviour is wrong, or at least for the society around them to, not to just go "oh lets kill off this character because vengeance is the new norm for people whose thoughts are offensive and we don't agree with. Screw teaching them a lesson when the best lesson for people whose thoughts we don't agree with is DEATH." Discovery is less a Star Trek series as it is a test by the owners of the TV rights to target certain demographics with storytelling rather than just telling compelling stories. They are simply trying to cater to the "social justice" movement...which was already unneeded because Star Trek was already socially progressive long before now and doing it with far more tact, grace and subtlety. In this sense, The Orville performs as a far more faithful Star Trek series than Discovery, and it isn't even a part of the canon.

Star Trek: Discovery is truly a highly polarizing "love it or leave it" television show. It's not the "Trek" you grew up with. It's not the "Trek" of the Gene Roddenberry Utopian future, celebrating human cooperation, ingenuity, and achievement, extending its hand of friendship to all the fellow inhabitants of our galactic neighborhood. This show is not about "exploring" or "discovering" anything. It is not about being the uplifting and fun "Family" show you can watch with your kids. Star Trek: Discovery is a hard-core science fiction show inspired by the Star Trek of yesteryear. It is a parallel universe where Unicorns and marshmallow mountains don't exist (unless it's created on a holodeck). This "Star Trek" is the expression of a dystopian universe modeled after our own. It's everything you see in the news today: Religious arrogance and intolerance; Same sex romance; Feminism; Intellectual Superiority; War and Hatred; ... and Superheros (of a sort). It truly represents the current polarization we see in our world and society. It's a world where there are no clear cut winners. This show is not really about escapism. This is where we are at as a society -- At war with ourselves. To be seen as an uncomfortable reflection of ourselves. This is what our "adults" look like in this future universe. It's a hard-core science fiction show where EVERYTHING is a target for Love or Hate. Star Trek: Discovery really is GREAT SCIENCE FICTION! (Inspired by Star Trek ... but not Star Trek.)

When the original Star Trek series was originally aired, did everyone wish that Uhura got her own episode? I did, and I'm sure everybody else did. That never happened. That is one of the disappointments of TOS. She had a semi lead on the Star Trek cartoon series, and I remember watching it and saying to myself, 'About time!' Several weeks ago, Sonequa "Walking Brain Dead" Martin-Green stated that some have a problem with a Black female lead. Really??? On Star Trek??? With Star Trek fans??? This only further proves that Martin-Green has not a clue of what Star Trek is about. In fact, her character of Michael Burnham, and the sociopathic writting on STD is an insult to the franchise, and the fans. Martin-Green should publicly apologize to fans for her incredibly stupid remarks.
