    The D's chair always appeared to me as some kind of a hole the captain is disappearing in. Noone on the bridge can see him there and the acoustics are probably not that great. Standing up is emphasizing the seriousness of the situation and eliminates potential issues in communication between crew and captain. That is also the reason Riker was most of the time not sitting in his chair, but standing behind someone watching over his/her shoulder, while relaying the captain's orders. On the NX, the 1701, A, B, C and E, the chair was prominent in the center, sometimes even on higher elevation than most other stations, so the captain didn't need to get up to get into the center of the screen.

    Yes, but then we would not have had a two-part episode. This was Season 7. We did not need to see what other cringe worthy plots they'd have thrown at us. Remember when Dr. Crusher got lucky with the space gas/ghost creature? That is exactly what I am talking about.

    Data: Mr. Worf, pull down your pants and prance like a girl. Worf: Sir? I will look foolish. Data: I am aware of that. Do it. That's a direct order. Worf drops his pants and prances around. Everyone giggles. Worf: I hate this job. Of all the characters, Worf is the most 2-dimensional. He reacts to all situations exactly the way we expect. But Michael Dorn would probably be thinking: “Meh, it’s still stable paycheck”.

    Is the mercenary ships bridge the battle bridge just with alot of modifications?

  • @djargus

    @djargus

    6 жыл бұрын

    By the look of the mercenary ship's viewscreen, I would say the answer is yes. It looks like they just redressed the Ent-D battle bridge. They seem to do alot of set redressing of that battle bridge (apparently it used to be the Enterprise refit's (Kirk's) bridge, which they modified into the Enterprise-D's battle bridge and just reused it with small redesigns for various non-Enterprise-D bridges. Plus, there were situations that the Original Series movies reused TNG sets, like in Star Trek 6 that the President's office is just a redress of Ten Forward set and the Enterprise-A's engine room in that movie is just the Enterprise-D's engine room with different panels and extras in place to block pan shots that would reveal it's just the TNG set (though they screwed up with just showing the Enterprise-D's warp core at points).

    Fun fact: the D's engineering set is the TOS movie engineering set, redressed with a new core and some new furniture along with the new panels, so re-dressing it for 6 was a kind of return to its original form. They've made heavy use of that set over the years.
