Honestly, no matter how many stupid things he's done, you cant help but feel bad for him. He lost his mum as a child, had to kill his biological father, watched his father figure die in front of him and lost his girlfriend to a purple shrek only for her to come back with no memory of him. He really needs a win

Actually not true. James Gunn believed it was an accident but Chris Pratt later said he dropped it on purpose because he thought it fit the character.

Those MCU fans who hated starlord for what he did were generally mainstream audiences which most of them didn't even read comics(that's a high bar for them,most MCU fans became MCU fans cause it became popular and trendy) And many of them didn't even watch GOTG movies...I myself convinced three of my fellow MCU fan friends to watch GOTG and argue with them supporting DC(I generally am just a low tier comic fan who likes everything),and man isn't it ironic...

Except he literally used the name Earth himself in the previous movie when explaining his heritage to the Sovereign and they seemed to know what he was talking about. Personally, I like to think he was testing Tony with that comment. Until that moment nothing about the situation would have suggested to Quill that Tony's group was human. He thought he was fighting Thanos' alien soldiers, who would have just accepted that correction and then had less accurate information on him. By knowing that Missouri was on Earth, Tony proved himself a human, possibly the first Quill's met since he left home. This would be a bigger deal than he let on.
