    I read the comments before I actually played the video... and I was worried. These comments are making it seem like she talked about denying her black side and changing her skin color, etc. WHAT VIDEO DID YOU ALL WATCH? Is she bad for living in Korea and speaking the language? I'm confused. *[And to the person talking about her dad, there are pure Africans with light skin, genius. You don't have to have non-black lineage.]*

    elephantasmic yeah i agree... i would say Yoon Mirae is a bigger deal in Korean hiphop than Tiger JK, because she is *the* best female rapper AND singer that i'm sure everyone looks up to. Tiger JK is one of the best and one of the early/first, but there are others that are near his level (many artists in The Movement). There's no one near Tasha's level of rapping skills/flow AND singing/soulful voice combined into one person. *She*'s the real legend!

    Guys, Her Dad had mixed scottish and african heritage. So She is 1/2 Korean 1/4 African 1/4 Scottish. She is technically more Korean than African.

    Just because he is of black and Scottish heritage, it doesn't litterally mean he is half black half Scottish. Lots of black people actually identify themselves that way even if it was really their grand parent or great grandparent or great great grand parent. Her father could litterally be only 1/8 or 1/16 Scottish for all we know. We don't really know who in his family if Scottish. She also, when talking about her father, refers to him as just being black. That's how it is in the black community. Saying you are of black and some other kind of heritage doesn't litterally mean you are half and half. My mom, my other family members and half the black people I know do this. It's just a way of saying " yeah I'm black, but I've got some family who are this that and the other." He more than likely is more black than Scottish.

    I never said there was anything wrong with claiming her KOREAN heritage. And I have seen her dad. I'm lighter than he is. My mother Is the same color as him. She is Nigerian and Ghanan. We recently found this out from that Ancestry DNA test. We were shocked as hell to discover that she is 2% Chinese and altogether only 11% white. She has a great great great grandfather who is white. Her father is pure Nigerian, black as night. Her mother is the one with the White Man in her family, yet she and my mother are the same color. My point is being light skinned doesn't really mean too much if your black. It doesn't always mean you are half of something else. Light color runs in a lot of black families even if they aren't directly mixed. That's the thing with black people. You can get all sorts of color combinations from us. Even my brother is several shades darker than me. So many black siblings are different colours even when they have the same parents. Especially if one parent is darker than the other. Even though my great great great great grandfather was a pale skinned Irish man, I still came out light and so did my mom.

  • @motherfuckerjones4554

    @motherfuckerjones4554

    What? I told you I don't care if she identifies as Korean! I don't care what she identifies as! You said that her dad was only half black and I was specifying that that might not be necessarily true. you said that because he is light skinned, it must automatically mean he is half white. I was telling you that that also might not necessarily be true either. And what do you mean " If you want to identify as black" what exactly am I if I have 1 white great great great great grandparent? Am I not almost completely black? Would it make any sense for me to identify as white? I have no clue what you were trying to get at by saying this. And by the way, she never said she didn't identify with her black heritage. Ever. Just because she is in Korea and speaks Korean (duh) it doesn't mean that she doesn't identify with her black side. I don't even know where you would get that. She has never said that. Living and working in another country doesn't instantly mean you are denying a part of yourself. And this was never a debate about her. All I have been saying from the beginning is that her father being a light skinned man doesn't instantly mean he is only half black. No one has said anything about Tasha identifying with anything except you, man...or woman. And The point in me talking about the different colors of blacks was to point out the fact that just because her father is light, it doesn't instantly mean he is half white. So that lovely bit of information about Indian culture really adds nothing at all to that particular argument. This has never been a discussionn about whether or not Tasha identifies with her black side. But she has even talked about "being half black in a homogeneous Korean record industry" she does INDEED take claim for her fathers side as being half of her. She has referred to herself as half black quite a lot. Now just so that you are not confused, I don't mean that by her saying that, she only identifies as black. I mean that she clearly identifies herself as a half black, half Korean woman. It's really not like she makes a secret out of it. She grew up in the states, she knows the black side of her family. She is proud to be half black. She wouldn't talk about it at all if she wasn't. Please just understand that. And here are some lyrics to her song "Black Happiness" “My skin color was particulary black when I was a kid. People pointed out their fingers at my mommy. My dad is a Black US soldier. Here and there, people whisper again about this and that. My eyes always filled with tears. I was young, but I could see my mum’s sadness. I thought everything was my fault. Every day, I’d wash my face a dozen times a day.” And part of an interview “I think my life (as being a mixed person) has become an issue. I’m not talking about being the made-up “hot issue” that get people talking. What I mean is that some of my songs like “Life Scent” or “Wonder Woman” also talked about my life. Since I’m coming back after a long time, I think that these things are turning into an issue again,” she explained. Hines Ward. Daniel Henney. Denis Oh. We asked her if the fact that biracial stars are getting popular didn’t show that the problem of biracial people had improved a lot. She shook her head. “The road is still long. Only part of the biracial people are treated well,” she said as she revealed her wish. “I have no concrete plan, but I want to participate to the efforts made to help biracial people.”

    Do you not know what The Ancestry DNA test is? It is a DNA test that actually tells you what you are mixed with. It's pretty accurate. So yes. I do know what I am and what I am not. And again, why are you bringing up these things about Indians? I never said anything that would dispute anything you said about India! Why do you keep bringing it Up? I never said India wasnt mixed. I was never making it seem like black people were the only ones with racial identity confusion or struggles. I only used that as my example because we were talking about a black man and his half black daughter. It would make no sense to bring India into it. And I never said anything about India not having a long experience with racial identity either.

    +VanaeCavae Exactly! So why should she negate everything to attach herself to a blank black heritage that doesn't even exist? What you stated above is who she is as an American. For another person who is considered black, it's different. She is the one to find/know her identity, not some outside person who's been extremely brainwashed by white imperialism. Peace!

    That dokbokkumtang thing made me cringe. Most Koreans call it daktoritang just overly nationalistic Koreans who feel Ike they can't use a japanese word call it bokkumtang. It's like calling French fries freedom fries. I don't mean anything bad against Koreans I just think it's silly that he insisted like that.

  • @wangchung5216

    @wangchung5216

    10 жыл бұрын

    You don't know what you're talking about. Dakbokkumtang is called differently depending on region. It has nothing to do with nationalism. Plus, you can't prove that most Koreans call it daktoritang so why make that assumption. Also fyi the dish itself comes from Korean origins. You're example doesn't make sense because nobody calls fries, French fries anymore. Don't believe me? Go to mickyd's or any restaurant and see for your self. What's "freedom fries"? That doesn't even exist. Also French fries was an established term within the US while daktoritang wasn't. Plus the term French fries doesn't come with a negative connotation in US history. I do agree that it was silly of him to insist like that but it seemed like he was trying to educate her but said it very abruptly.

    dakdoori tang (chicken soup) All the korean people I know use that term. It's also used in all the korean restaurants I go to.. I don't know why he had to correct her. From my stand point, he seems like an ignorant jerk.... She had it correct.... Also why is he so against a "japanese" term, I know korea and japan had a war but gosh grow up and let the hate go. I am sure the lovely Mi rae felt put down by that this isnt her first time being discriminated.

    dakdooritang is commonly used but it is a slang term adopted by frequent use and yes as he said it was adapted from Japanese terms. However when on broadcast like this it is preferred that the correct name is used as it is by most this is because the use of Japanese terms in Korean language is still problematical due to the occupation. He corrected her in case she gets criticised by older Korean's. Songs have been banned for less and its your fxxxing ignorance that tells someone to grow up and let it go. I dare you say that to the face of the families who's parents and grandparents died in Auschwitz or were taken forcibly to serve as comfort women.

    First of all there are not sides really, just family members. What really is black culture? Think about it. If you come from Nigeria, you have Nigerian culture. If you come from Cuba, you have Cuban culture. If you come from the U.S., you have American culture which black folks have greatly contributed to. There really isn't a set black culture aside from regular American culture. We're all so mixed. Korean is a set culture that her own mother gave her, so it makes sense that she would embrace that. Black Americans are still on a journey to discover who we really are now that we are beginning to be allowed to be. However, we are all different, so there will never be a set black culture. We're simply Americans of mixed heritage. Peace! Argue that point if you want to, but why should a person of mixed heritage only acknowledge one part of that? It was racist whites who created the "one-drop theory", not Africans or Native Americans. We need to stop looking outside of ourselves for our identity & just accept all of our heritage and accept ourselves as plain Americans. You can't just go by looks. My grand uncle had brown skin & very wooly hair, yet his grandfather was all Irish. Should he have negated the Irish because blacks, whites & other people said to? Of course not! Why should a human being be negated? Good for her. She has a set culture to be connected to. Most of us don't because the U.S. is so fragmented, so we have to pick up the pieces & figure out what it means for us to be American. Peace!

    i mean..... she's black american. black culture is it's own culture despite what you think, the fact that we're all different and contribute to art and music and society is what makes up black culture. and like other cultures it evolves and changes constantly. don't try to dismiss someone's culture and heritage because you think we should identify ourselves as americans. also, don't police which side of their ethnicity mixed kids should identify with. that kind of attitude is very harmful and dismissive of the tribulations that mixed-race individuals go through. in order to have a united society, we need to embrace different cultures as well as our own.

    Kaela Joong guess what? someone can be black american and also korean! one doesn't negate the other, and i'm not sure what your point is in pointing that out. like, i'm not dumb. i literally said multiple times in my response that she's mixed and not to invalidate the experiences of mixed race children, hell i'm mixed but i'm still a black american, so what exactly is your point?

    It's not dismissive of black culture. Black culture is a main part of American culture, but for so long it's been considered something sub & on the sidelines. Point being it's just as much a part of American culture as the contributions of those of European descent. For long this was negated & the contributions of black Americans to science, medicine, etc. hidden. Peace!

    here's an idea : black culture can be both connected to and separated from american culture because culture is an abstract concept that can take many forms. was the harlem renaissance black culture or american culture? it was black culture that then later became apart of american culture. black people have the right to claim their culture as separated from the country with a history of silencing and oppressing them. you say that our contributions were negated, so why can't you see that's a reason many black people consider it a separate cultural identity? and don't peace me.
