These week in reviews are great. Bored gamer seems to just ramble on and jump randomly to different points, if he ever gets to them. This is much more coherent and shows me what's important without all the fluff.

It makes sense for CIG to first optimize Vulkan without multi-threading. This would otherwise cause issues OR obfuscate perforamnce issues.
When they talked about the instance hangars and how to keep pirates out I thought of Rust or Space Engineers. How do you keep people out of areas? Airlocks. In rust there is a room that has 2 doors. 1 to outside, 1 inside. so even if someone jumps on the elevator they can't get further than the airlock space. they get the warning etc and kicked back to the station. then the owner can open the door to the main hangar. or the owner gets to shoot the intruder like they do intruders on ships. Honestly I dont know why they didn't use the same zones they did in ships. then the owners can shoot intruders and loot stuff from them. seems fair. lol. they could do something similar with external hangars when the door closes the room decends the way it does to grab a ship for the owner. so external airlock hangar. then main hangar. then vault hangar where everything is stored (we dont go to that one its the magic warehouse where things come from).
Thanks Mike. My hope with cargo is that we will have physicalized hydrogen and quantanium. Specifically, being able to buy it in bulk, store it, and then refuel our ships somewhere of our choosing off site with it. Also, food and oxygen etc too. I hope the Expanse will output tanks of useable quantinium a Vulcan could use to refuel a ship...and SCU boxes of other minerals of course.

I want all good to be able to run out at stations. Fuel, Food, Weapons, all of it. That way these huge freighter ships have something to move other than (do Mission for money) Let players have some agency and blockade a station if they want type stuff.

for some reason I just could not enable precision targeting mode. Keybinds say it's LAlt+MB2, but it doesn't work. Even rebinding it doesn't seem to work.
They can have furniture stores that swing between Grand Opening and Going Out of Business sales.
I like what he said with being simple and not clever regarding teleporting people out of the hangers, don't reinvent the wheel and use what tools you already have right now in order to not think of some cool fancy method that will take six months. Telly me out cool lets rock with that with V1, and, maybe on 4.0 you will V2 with something fancy and interesting, like increased security or whatever. But lets keep it simple with what we have lol I like this guy
I'm not a tech guy and maybe I'm totally wrong here, but maybe not being able to buy ships in EPTU has been a sign towards problems with private hangars and maybe some databases?

I dont think its the argument of "Oh you had 10 years to make this what gives" I think its more so they bite off more than they can chew, meaning this is such a freaking enormous project that with things contently changing and being implemented, I know for sure that there is spaghetti code that has to be constantly fixed. Which in due time, it will eventually be in a good spot with stability, all I will say is whether or not if they fail or succeed. It will will go down in history as either one of the biggest flops in gaming history, or one of the most revolutionize games in history. Only time and peoples wallets will tell, looking on the inside I can tell people with the wallets are getting rather impatience, so I think this is putting a fire under their ass or the money might dry up.

my understanding on the size of locations in terms of cargo is made with irl comparisons. so a container ship goes from sea port to sea port and those ports are made to handle those mainly but also to handle the next step down such as sending containers out on semi trucks trains or aircraft but not say delivery vans and in the example of a semi truck they would take that cargo container to a distribution center such as a ups or fedex center which would open those containers and send the smaller sections of cargo out for delivery with a delivery truck/van so the step down in vehicle size to match the scale of the cargo is what they are thinking of doing, the hull e is basically the container ship and then small cargo ships such as starter ships are more like the delivery truck.
Teleport them to a brig on station and remove all items to a locker. Stolen item can be picked up from station lost and found.

So what happens with the hangars I've bought as an early backer? or will those be like the "skins" of my local own hangar? As I have a couple, can I pick what I want it to look like? and be different depending on where I want to rent a slot?

This will be my first bit of experience with master modes, im ready for it to go live. Haven't played for a long time, once they announced master modes I had no motivation to even try it. Really pretty excited for this patch, especially since I haven't played for over a year now, so it'll feel like even more.
I want them to make 16 and 8 scu containers that open up and have weapon racks ammo rack and armor mannequins as a good and easy way to keep all of your stuff organized and being able to see what you want to take on missions.

I honestly feel as though master modes is a dire mistake. they are watering down the level of skill that makes evasive flying fun. i've tried it. its eerily similar to how Starfailed feels to play. and Industrial ships such as the Prospector much less a hauler feel like container ships on magnets when your fly them, its super annoying and frustrating. Also. Turret gunners suffer in MM. Because the turret gunner no longer has an integral part in combat anymore? i guess. turret gunning really required synergy between the gunners and the pilot. a trust if you will. now the gunner just takes backseat since in MM its a DPS race to just get your main guns on target and try pumping them full of lead and laser first. because theres no point to evading. it just gets you killed. just shields front and bow tank them. trust me. As someone who has just coming on shy of 2K USD invested in SC I really want it to succeed. But watering down the realism this game is known for, to make it a stereotypical space arcade game equivalent of if Starfailed screwed starwars squadrons and this was the kid that came from it. I cant get behind it, I'm sorry. Especially since two of my friends brought this game FOR the TURRET gameplay. And three more brought it for the flight model. I will die on this hill MASTERMODES IS A MISTAKE. A DIRE MISTAKE.

Evasive flying is the primary way i play, I enjoy zipping around at about 350-600m/s whilst decoupled. it feels so rewarding to be able to dodge incoming fire. and I dont just do combat. I usually love playing industry loops like hauling and mining and salvaging. Combat is a fun break from those. now i can see im going to end up either playing my Reclaimer constantly. or i'm just going to wind up being bored and not doing anything other than FPS and mining and salvage. because SCM speeds are so low. cargo isnt viable. it takes too long. I really dont like the way this is going. the Devs pulled a FREEJAM with this one. Gaijin would be proud of the absolute lack of communication and slight of hand to implement something with the attitude of 'We decided this. you get no say in it, deal with it.'

Heck, I brought my first ever custom pc specifically to play this after two years of fencesitting and indescision. But I Love this. And I am seeing parralels here that are making me very concerned. And also. Like Saltemike said himself. A poll would of been nice, its concerning they just came out and said we're doing it this way now without consulting us.

My question is. How are they planning to incorporate the hangars we get with each ship purchase into their idea of persistent hangars? I remember some of those being large enough to fit several ships at once with their own pads? I'd love to know how it's being planned out.

I think there was a vision once where you could add additional rooms to your hangar. Or you'll be able to own multiple hangars in the same location.

It's operator modes - Guns, Rockets,Scanning,Mining,Quantum e.t.c. Middle mouse by default. It made me confused when I couldn't see any Q markers after I plote a route on Starmap. Figured out I was in wrong sub mode, like Scanning instead of Quantum.

19:38 no sir, there are teams of so called 'pirates' that abuse bugs and glitches to try to rob you. Its happening. In armistice zone, theyve managed to break into your ship by breaking cargo doors by bashing a door. That shouldnt be possible.

The delayed items will make it into subsequent point patches, I suspect probably across three point patches, I don't see them all making it in simultaneously, which is why I suspect that they will be split across several point patches.

@@Havoc_762 LoL, No, not really. It was plainly obvious from the moment they showed that video about Cargo and ships coming up outta da pit that this was NEVER going to make 3.23.0 at all. Frankly it was kind of cynical for CIG to hype 3.23 this way. That Dev on the last video, about why it was going to be delayed to a point patch or two was refreshingly honest about the fact that had they just went with it, it would have caused another 3.18 situation. I do apologize that this has been a bit long in reply, and I have to say your post did bring a smile, and a laugh, so thank you for that. It brightened my day.

I suspect one of their reasons for the cargo delay in addition to ‘ship sales’ is they are going to be nuking server performance enough with the Xeno grand finale and the last thing they want is ship inaccessibility due to the new format instead of lag.

When they turn on "Vulkan", will it be the default or will we need to switch it on? ;-) Hm, a Recliner, couch (with bed/logout), lamps, plants, flat screen, coffee and end tables, display cases (vert & horz), etc... I'm guessing I'll need to rent habs at various locations to stay (bed / logout) and store cloths, gear, etc..., versus leaving a container in a hangar full of gear?

It's already available in 3.23, but they're switching to Vulcan, not just making it available.. So you can expect it to be not only the default, but since there's no reason for them to continue to support DX after moving to Vulcan, DX aught to be going away entirely as well.
Im curious to see how ccus will go. Most ccus start with a small ship or land vehcile. Does our hanger just default to what came with the start of the ccu or will ccus give us a larger hanger for the end goal ship?

Jarrod answered that, I think. They confirmed your personal hangar (for now) stays the same size if you upgrade ship sizes. Your bigger ship will go to a larger public hangar. This is intended to change in the future.

not turning on multithreading in vulkan is a marketing thing, 100%. CIG wont give us all the things when they are ready, no, we need them every other patch otherwise they cant plan the year with all the nice features.
20 km range and stuck at scm speed even after being pulled out of q? Sounds like the non pirates only options are to fight in whatever ship they are in or pay and hope they don't get blown up and have their stuff taken anyway. Sounds like too much of a risk to my limited game time so someone else can have their fun at my expense. Think I will wait and see what additional balance changes they make to piracy that will provide additional options to the non pirate.

ive seen videos of people testing the final xenothreat mission in the 3.23 eptu and they have said the final xeno threat will coincide with invictus week, which is in may. therefore i deduce that 3.23 will drop sometime during may.

For performance, i don't think Vulkan would improve anything there because i'm pretty sure the bottleneck is the main game loop with all the additions of 3.23 stuff and servers overloaded, while Vulkan only improve rendering stuff. To me, 3.23 can exists only with the damn awaited Server Meshing. So, i would just wait the damn 4.0.x altogether (stable one).

R.I.P. hauling 20km that you can't escape or fight back against, Have CIG never played PVP before? A ship you cannot engage or shoot with a large ship, you better have an org protecting you as a hauler because you aren't going anywhere. They just killed all industrial game play, and you will be dealing with every org that can field 4 pilots good or not. (you cannot kill any fighter at 1.5km in current MM and now you need to try and kill something you can't even reach). A+ for effort CIG.
To fall down in de-coupled mode ... isn't that what the mode is for? Like NO auto support to hold the position? I thought this was quite cool. It made things more complicated.

I think the high volume vs low volume routes is hard to make, well 'make sense' with only 2 star systems. Even with only say 4 systems its awkward. I think once you are talking a dozen systems then you can make it make sense and feel right. But I mean cargo's gotta start some where. The vision of cargo makes sense and diffentiating between big loads and ships vs small loads and ships. its just hard to like make stick with only 1 star system.
Master modes seems terribly restrictive.
when they say they deliver something in 2 years, it means 5years bcs they scrap half of planed stufff...
I think 3.23 is coming soon, stability and good fps a little later then soon 🙂

In the video Chad did mention you can put weapons in the weapon racks and I think he said you can hold and equip them too, you just won't be able to fire them.
Good on Chat for communicating it to us. I'll wait for Hangers, it's better to wait and get a better tested function/feature.

COMPLETELY agree with the monetization of cosmetic items. Especially when we get homes, not just hangars....there's so much opportunity for them to shift to those things as income. That, plus the skins instead of items as you always talk about...we really need this stuff. The #1 thing that will probably turn me off of playing Star Citizen past the "last wipe" (release) is if they keep selling powerful ships for real $$$. I know it's probably not going to happen, but my ideal post-release SC would be them halting ship sales on anything that's not close to a starter, then earning their income through all the plethora of cosmetics they could monetize, skins, and other things that don't impact gameplay too much. I'm sure it's a pipe dream but it's gonna be a huge letdown if they just keep selling everything you're meant to earn by playing the game post-release.

@@Fragnatix I'm a huge proponent for a monthly sub model, but unfortunately I don't think that would work for SC...it's a different kind of beast. I could see them doing a monthly premium (much like subs are now) for goodies packs and special access, but I think they've all but committed to buy-to-play. Also, monthly sub MMOs also have yearly expansions more often than not to make up for the fact that a sub doesn't actually cover the cost of further development except for the very top few games with huge numbers. If MAUs ever drop too low, some other income source is needed. And SC is such a huge project, I think they'll always be needing a pretty huge development budget. And I don't expect them to charge for expansions (like a new system), either. So best case scenario, I think, would be a monthly premium access for extra cosmetics and goodies, while maintaining buy-to-play for the majority of the playerbase. Im waiting this patch just for the maps, because trying to navegate eith the current maps is a big turn off for me, for the patch its seems like is just visuals and we need more gameplay than visuals, they should add something of gameplay because it feels mostly like a tech demo than a game.
Don't you need a release date for something to be delayed?

You're right, after over 10 years of development you shouldn't expect them to think about how to integrate certain features into the game. Something like this has to be decided in advance in order to be able to implement it into the source code without a lot of effort.

wouldnt it be great if you could work in an industry that when you fail to deliver on projected deadlines you could gaslight the customer into believing its somehow their fault for expecting things when you imply they're going to be delivered. Do you think game development is unique in having unexpected things happen that create delays?

wow, even the latest update on EPTU is trash .. I was trying to load a cyclone and the dsync just to drive a ground vehicle was unplayable. What a mess.

Paying for the number of boxes you load? This is stupid, CIG. The big boxes should be MUCH more expensive to load, but also be faster compared to having small boxes. This would be an interesting decision, as CIG always brag, and not just make you want to bring the biggest ship for the job. Do you want to be on your way in 5 minutes and pay more, or are you okay with waiting for 20 minutes and getting the job done cheap?
I keep checking in seeing game finely going somewhere but everytime nope it always failing to deliver and still nothing real to do
