Star Citizen is an Open Development Alpha Project by Cloud Imperium. It is 2 Games really though, the Persistent Universe that aims to build a First Person MMO Space Sim that encompasses gameplay in ship & on ground, economy and pretty much anything else you can think of. It's built in the StarEngine (a modified Lumberyard Engine). You'll see massive Space Ships that you can fly with friends, land on planets, explore or whatever your way to whatever goal you choose. It's available to try in it's current Alpha State now, you can give feedback & influence the direction of the game BUT it is VERY ALPHA.
Squadron 42 is the Single Player Campaign of Star Citizen & the Spiritual Successor of Wing Commander. The Idea is the game is immersive, cinematic, beautiful & seamless... NO LOADING SCREENS once in game.
Both Games are currently in the Alpha of their development.
I am suspecting to see something more mainstream for Star Citizen's PU by the end of 2024 with permanent progression, though it will be a while after that before the game is considered "feature complete" which would be closer to 2025 in my opinion.
The are no dates for Squadron 42's Release Yet BUT it is now Feature Complete.
I am an Independent Content Creator & Star Citizen Fan. I am not paid by Cloud Imperium HOWEVER I am an Evocati Member and as such I am under an NDA for Closed Early Patch Tests of Star Citizen', known as the Evocati Test Flight (ETF).     No need to work on old ships that are paid for when you can just make new ones and get more money. I have accepted the fact that I will probably never see this game completed at this rate. I am 50 yrs old and been a backer since 2016. So at this point I have just pre ordered it for my grandkids and Me playing it finished is now a bucket list item. lol. I figure they will just keep coming up with new things to add and not really ever finfish any of them completely. I am just glad I was not one of the people who jumped in and spent thousands just to realize they are not happy where the game is going currently or where it will end up.

    I would like to see the NPCs actually work at this point. Hearing them talk amungst themselves...vendors...random npcs flying ships etc.

    @@SuperGT3.2V6 why? Because it adds to the emersions and realism of the game.. having them just sit in chairs is useless. I want to talk to a vendor that actually responds correctly, or to hear a conversation between npc where you can actually follow the lead and it takes to and actual area or an actual mission. If you just want to sit un your ship and fly around thats fine with everyone else but people should have that quality also to play how they want to.

    I don't even look at it as malicious anymore. I think CIG is so deep into it that they simply could not function without a mandatory subscription model; which nobody at this stage would invest in because the game is still in alpha, or by constantly selling ships. I think CIG has painted themselves into a corner. Eventually the dam is going to break.

    The ai being more communicative is something I have looked forward to for a while. HAving the npcs talking will 100% make the verse feel more real and immersive.

    I'd love to see specialized scanners on ships like mineral attuned scanner on mining ships, scrap scanners on salvaging ships and combat oriented scanners on fighters.

    On the contrary, it's unbelievable that years in the future, with way better computers than we have now, humanity didn't program a knowledge base of the different materials and their signatures on the ships computers. We already have such technology to detect different materials at a distance, like spectrometry. It doesn't need to tell you exactly what it is, but could give you a percentage like it's 20% likely to be a mineral or it's 50% likely to be another ship

    @plaidsnake2883 it doesn't need to detect that only. It could make those things more noticeable than others on your hud. Maybe there could be a mode toggle like we can switch missiles/mining heads we could switch scanning modes

    Glad they're treating the Polaris as the proper capital it is. Larger guns, crew roles and assignments, the pilot is just that - the guy flying and not a one-man force projector, etc. One step closer to the a universe of specialists.

    People are so stupid thinking there just going to sell these multi thousand dollar ships and not give those people a way to run them. The have stated they know people like to play alone and they will give people a way to some how run their multi crew ships alone, its all about balance yes there will be muti crew but they will not cripple everyone to it.. npc or just some base AI. They will give it.

    I have vowed not to buy anymore ships u til CIG figures out how to stop ships disappearing from inventory after a patch update. I have lost a total of 7 ships and once I actually realized this number, coupled with the inflation of ship prices, I just can’t muster the energy to grind for ever to rebuy those lost. It would literally take me a year of near-daily grinding.

    I'm already done. I have quite a few, but it seems they disappear one per patch. There's going to be a full wipe soon, probably with 4.0 anyway, so as you said, I'm not grinding it out when it will just get lost again.

    I'm honestly surprised that the next major milestone they want to work towards will be a 1.0 commercial release. With all the jank I still see on Reddit -> Exploding while landing, the unreadable and cluttered UI, and the general instability issues. It's just that there is so much that still seems to be missing for that commercial release. I was expecting at least a road to 5.0 before that.

    Yeeep, this is the comment I was looking for. New ships, features and gameplay loops are of course always welcome...but at some point between now and that 1.0 commercial release CIG really need to polish and fix what they already have in front of them. There's just so many critical game-breaking bugs right now that can sour the mood for even the most ardent of SC players, often wasting massive amounts of prep and travel time, and sometimes even breaking ships with no fix in sight (hello pledged Corsair with a permanently missing left engine that is practically unflyable now). I tried to get two of my friends to play the game with me over the past week and it was largely a failure because, you guessed it - bugs, lag and more bugs with tedious, time-consuming game design as the final nail in the coffin. Nothing quite like clipping through something and dying or your ship suddenly exploding for no reason, and then having to suffer many of the game's time sinks all over again just to get back to where you were. SC for the new/average player is 30 or 40mins of prep time and travelling from A to B to C...for just 5 minutes of action, if that. If the game doesn't fall apart before then. I guess we'll see what they announce at Citcon and further down the line but the PU right now needs a plethora of major hotfixes and I'd even argue the cities need a fundamental rework. How about putting essential kiosks in our personalized Hangars and in the Starport atriums (Commodity terminals, weapons/armor/ammo vendors, food and drink, etc.) and then leaving the rest of the cities for convention centers, EZ Habs, Admin centers, clothes and ship stores...and maybe even have an area for instanced apartments with a commanding view that players can decorate, much like their hangars. Even better: have a district in the city reserved for instanced ground missions - raids on an apartment complex with a different, randomized layout every time, defense of a warehouse from space pirates, rescue hostages in a shopping mall, etc. ...all contracts that can be accepted as mercenary work and they take you to that district of X, Y or Z city, with an instanced mission. CIG really needs to trim a lot of the fat and cut back on the unnecessary time sinks. The vast majority of players don't want empty bottles and medical gowns discarded everywhere, nor do they want to wait 5 or 6 hours to auto-load cargo. Most players also do not appreciate having to run back and forth 10 light years just to pick up the essentials for most gameplay loops...and they shouldn't have to click, drag and press a key more times than is necessary for what should otherwise be a simple, intuitive step. A lot of it is a hotfix away from a solution, but a lot of it also boils down to a serious disconnect between what Chris Roberts and CIG thinks is cool or unique...and what is actually fun, intelligent and respectful of a players' time from a game design perspective.

    While I understand one can walk, chew and talk simultaneously, I would say that its a bit odd that they're making completely novel ships, with so many concepts 'sold' and still unavailable. There is so much work to do without completing existing work. Its an odd, and not a positive choice.

    The improved scanning and target identification are a must have, a lot of newer players this last XT event had trouble identifying friendly versus XT targets. The game is moving in a good direction, as always I'll look forward to seeing older pledge ships come into the game more than new ships designs. I get that they need to fund the game and want to add features prior to some of the ships getting released, but it makes it very hard to want to invest in any of the newer ships when there are folks who have been waiting nearly a decade for ships they've already paid for.

    Would be cool if ships like the Polaris and other RSI ships that have the big glass front had some sort of button that could be activated that would drop some sort of metal shutter or cover for the glass area that offers more protection and privacy when not actively being flown.

    I would love to see a starter ship for every ship manufacturer in the future. To really give new players a feel for what every ship maker’s feel and purposes are. But I’m so glad to see so much work going into gameplay features vs ships these days :)

    Thanks as always for the updates. About time Crusader has a starter, but curious what it will be geared toward. Always like hearing about new ships coming out but they do need to give some attention to the older ones. Why do certain ships not have a bathroom? Even small ships would have something if only one equivalent to a chem toilet that pulls out from a wall or something. With all the cargo changes coming about, their are certain ships that are basically cargo useless since you would have to carry everything thru doors and down corridors. I am not saying I agree, but I can understand why some are upset with the new shiny ships being sold when older ones have yet to come out or been given a gold pass. It does appear from a far off view that it is a money grab when older ones haven't been updated. Having said all of that, i do look forward to 3.24 and having a functional hanger that is mine. Every time I left some salvage weapon in back of a ship is seamed to turn into a pinball or try to fuse into the wall. To just leave that in a corner until I can put it on another ship....

    Max can hold a NURSA and a CL cant. Still waiting on CIG to bring back up jump point sizes as that was on advantage of Max vs Taurus back in the day. Will hold onto Max and a ccu for CL to compare when it finally comes out.

    From a player perspective, I want them to focus on finishing the ships we've already paid for but from a business perspective, they need to continue with an influx of new money so they cannot focus purely on the backlog.

    As other mentions - getting closer and closer to have a purpuseful use for larger ships in gameloops. So would be nice to see a focused effort for a function to man larger ships with NPCs - however inferior to a real person they may be.

    MMO economies can be extremely realistic and complicated when they're more player-driven. I know Guild Wars 2 actually had a professional economist on staff for a while to handle theirs, maybe SC should do the same.

    I like the idea of personal scanners - but I kind of envisioned that more like the Star Trek tricorder. However, if it's something integrated with the suit / helmet even, but specialized (ie, not everyone can have it along with other gadgets) then I could get on board with that pretty easily.

    lol , why give up on. A ship that if you bought it earlier, made you $350 in store credit?? Take that BMM & upgrade it to a Polaris. Easy peazy. If you don’t like the Polaris , put the BMM in a buy back & grab it later after you melt the Polaris. That way you get to play with the Polaris until the BMM is ready. o7

    A bit weird if the AI will react to players "pulling the pins" on grenades like that. Unless those nades activate with a loud metallic sound as soon as you to "pull the pin" On the gameplay you can see that it's not even following the finger, but pops off by it self after the animation is done. Even if there is a sound from that, it would never need to be as loud that those AI would hear it and go into combat mode before it's been thrown at them. I hope there is a option to use grenades more stealthy then that...

    Let's see how they implement the ping mechanic in FPS, there is the risk it turns into something like a permanent "wallhack" where you cannot be surprised because you always know where everybody is.

    I'd like to see the AI working properly. No more NPCs standing on the seats and stuck in the wall. Also good to see the devs are having progression with the Polaris.

    Polaris getting the torpedoes from another seat is good. Going to see a lot fewer solo ones. Interesting to see how the AI will be at running the stations though

    I am totally for moving the torp controls away from bridge control. I think this really ensures that you need a crew to use the ship properly

    I'm gonna hazard a guess and say the ES is the first Zeus Variant going to final detail. 4.0 is the next major patch, while the next patch does overhaul the cargo system, and the CL would be a good choice to release at the moment, I just feel like they don't to release a ship as highly anticipated as the Zeus for 3.24. I could be wrong though.

    Good to hear the 'normal' weapons on the Polaris are getting a boost... Trouble is, we don't know if it's needed or not until it's available in game. So we might be moaning it needs toning DOWN by the time we get it ;)

    My humble little fleet is mostly complete. I think the only new ships that would make me pony up some cash would be a starter Drake miner, a Terrapin fighter variant, or some personal hangar work vehicles. Also, "Yay, Terminator!"

    7 new ships, it’s got to be variants on existing, the hornet mk2 variants perhaps, an additional Zeus variant, sabre variant, a ground vehicle. Prob only one completely new ship.

    I wanting/waiting to see how the base building pans out .Would love to see the ability to create my own Over and Under ground bunkers/bases , therefore having the ability to bring camoflauge and stealth into my bases ,so not being able to spot them with normal vision but having to use the radar pings to locate them But only in close proximity thus Making it hard to locate them .

    Some interesting developments, a few of which I've been looking forward too but in general I'm still detecting a lot of stuff that's of lesser importance (like surface creatures etc.) IMO With a 1.0 release closing and a whole line-up of RSI capital ships soon (not to mention current sub-cap multi-role ships) the updates have been lacking in NPC development. Crew AI and even simple combat AI still needs a lot of work to be done that's rather sophisticated as to not feel limited, ridiculous, robotic or basic. Since you will need to be able to interact with crew AI, like give orders/priorities to have them be useful. Obviously there should also be quest givers and other NPCs that intersect with ALL professions for a more immersive verse, but those are relatively more simple as they generally are more scripted or less interactable.

    I'm definitely looking forward to the AI and reward changes but while new ships are cool and all, how about we get the docking system fixed or finish up some of the previously promised ships before dedicating more resources to more new ships??

    it's kind of crazy when i looked at a 3,000,000 price tag for a upgrade from the starter ship to a c1 or a lancer I thought it was ridiculous. I can knock out a HRT in reasonable time. 5 minutes a mission... but at a payout of 11k that's like... 300 missions... With no slow downs, no breaks, ect that's 25 hours of just straight solid grinding. HOWEVER because I always soft kill my prey i discovered... ships with crargo often have them. They spawned 200k of quantanium and slam in this recent HRT i did. Stripping the ship components and guns meant the HRT (a now taking 30-40 minutes.) put out a payout of 275k!!!! I hope that other missions are like this with lots of possible "bonus payment" if you keep your eyes open. sort of like the chance to find the rarest gems in the game if you frequently to cave diving missions.

    I just wish there were more missions or gameplay loops. That and a more lived in universe feel. More NPC ships in space, freighters and cargo haulers just out there.

    I just imagine how confusing it is to keep sequence their code into the latest testing builds. The amount of bugs every new feature adds has to be compounded by each new division adding their own code the baseline. I feel like a game this big fights their own code so much to the point that it's more frustrating for devs than us. But, I am not a software guy.

    Nice update! I patiently await the PTU Wave 1 of 3.23.24. While watching your vid, I was struck by a strange thought. We currently have the Copion and the Morak(?) in game. What will the lore be for those creatures moving from the “creation planet” and populating other planets? Also, after watching the bit of fire on a large ship, I have to ask why can’t one simply open a docking bay door and vent the ship’s atmosphere, which will immediately extinguish all the fires (no oxygen and no heat)?
