Today we take a look at what Evocati is saying about the first 3.24 builds and all of the details of the new features. Some of it seems to be a mess, but otherwise, it offers great features.

To your point, I think they are going to eventually restrict what can be done with hand tractor beams to make the trollies much more efficient for large quantities. You probably won’t be able to move the larger containers more than just onto the trollies or very short distances with a hand tool eventually. Yes to the return of the Revel & York hangar and other bespoke ones that can be properly customised and feel like a proper home in the verse. Right now, they feel highly impersonal, a bit like the stations.

3.24 is incredibly unstable right now: 30k’s constantly, and then the hangars don’t persist and you lose everything set up in there. It’s far from ready for a wave 1 next week, but on them if they want to push it early to placate the community. I would personally hold off. The inventory management is really clunky: storage access adds another layer preventing you from getting on and playing the game. I hope CIG take the inevitable community complaints and feedback onboard and really work to streamline the entire process asap, because it’s frustrating and slow compared to clicking i and double clicking on items to rapidly sort this. Disclosure: I’m Evocati, so used to very buggy releases, I do feel that the UX for the whole inventory and cargo process needs refinement to make this as quick and straight through as possible. Otherwise it’s going to make doing the basics a chore for players.

This all sounds really cool but i hope they think about the average players time. For someone who maybe only has 1-2 hours to play at a time, every update adds more stuff that prevents them from actually playing the game. They need to make a lot of these processes more streamlined i think and also think about how the player is rewarded for their time. No one would move materials like Iron before, because its not worth anything. Now its worth even less because you have to spend even more time moving it around to sell it. I love the things they add in the patch but it will make everything but the most expensive stuff even more useless to move around. I know a lot of these materials will have other uses later, maybe in base building or something, but not right now and i dont think it should take too long for someone to quickly change some values to make everything a bit more rewarding to actually do in the game. I don’t expect everything to easily make you millions (actually i dont think anything needs to do that) but at least make it worth my time. And what i am saying is that with another thing like the cargo elevator gameplay it further reduces everything in value because it takes more time. I flew around yesterday to change equipment on my ship, took me already 2 hours or so because you have to fly to different stations and planets already because for some reason none of the shops actually have decent stocks, they just have 1 item you need and another item is at a different shop on a random station in the middle of bumfuck-nowhere. And landing on planets is even more frustrating with having to find the airport in the dark, waiting on trains, waiting in trains, when in the end all you do is click something on a virtual screen anyway, meanwhile the framerate is taking a dump. I actually like that now you‘d have to physically attach the new things yourself but you can see how it gets frustrating when that is another thing thats just gonna take up time.

Tbh, I wouldnt like to just phase through invisible walls into personal hangars. I prefer the current method they have on Evo. And as someone who has engaged in piracy quite a few times, I'm already used to cargo taking a while to load and unload from ships by hand. Cleaning out the cargo out of ships is something we already have ingame and I think, as long as they make cargo a lot more profitable to make up for the time it takes now, it's a good thing. That way, cargo gameplay can have a progression. You are a single person? Well, maybe take the Freelancer oder Freelancer MAX instead of the huge multi crew freighter that is the C2. Feels like people are a bit upset that they cant solo the big ships anymore imho

As a very long time member of Evocati, having tested pre 3.0, and most of the 3.x patches, I can say that 3.24 is, in fact, one of the bigger dumpster fires we've seen. The good news is that it is going to get better. The even better news is that once you can get to your hangar (as of the last evo patch, at least) things work pretty well. Until the 30k. By the time it is ready for wave 1, I have no doubt that most of the nasty bugs will be cleared up and it will be a much better experience...And I can see why it didn't go in several patches ago, like CIG intended. Nobody was ready for that.

I would really like to see the return of component salvage being worth it, or even necessary to fracture a ship. I'm sure they have plans to make component salvage actually profitable some day, but probably not until they fix insurance.

I get it. I'm hoping that as people use it more, we get a better idea of how we can make it a great system that doesn't take too much time. There's other things that will cut down on the extra work, such as your apartment or hab having a hangar attached and being able to call your last used ship from your MobiGlass. That will truly cut down on a lot of the prep time.
