I like they idea of a Caterpillar being a kind of mother ship. Hope the devs take some notes here ;)

it is supposed to be modular. But CIG forgor i think. As for now they just mentioned it in the broshure, on the original concetsale and inthe QßA. then they sold the concept and we never heard about modularity for the caterpillar again.
If modules like these were available for the Caterpillar, I'd definitely buy one. Ultimate support ship.

The MOAB Bomb could be refitted as a ground penetrating radar device dropped drom low orbit to map caves and search for materials in the ground or to find hidden shipwrecks satellites.
When designing care spaces always ensure that personel can access both sides of the bed, IRL in fact access to the head of the bed in an emercency is a must (but in SC the beds need their kind of sci fi heal-ly bit. For a hospital ship you essentially need a Triage/reception area for fresh casualties from the vehicles, and for them to be passed down to the relevant care area depending on severity after assessment (or in SC terms, which tier bed they need) It's important to have flow in one end, out the other to prevent congregation at any point which would cause interuptions to care or impede the entry of new casualties. The Triage area can be bare bones in terms of treatment options, in order to facilitate larger number of patients, but the inner rooms need to be very much set up for intensive care. The upper area where the gangway goes could actually create a 2nd floor for the care areas, those high ceilings are industrial, they don't help medicine, this would facilitate the room needed for all the beds and carespaces. Having the privacy screens retractable and more opaque would be good too, so they can be applied when needed. The triage area and the exit are the only doors that should remain operational, the main care areas should be sealed at all times to ensure cleanliness and privacy, you don't want flow of fresh patients into those areas until the triage area has differentiated them into their Tiers of treatment. (IRL there's various ways of doing this, such as the Manchester Trauma System) To my eye the Front end is Triage, next room is Tier 1 beds, next is Tier 2 beds, then the last modules are for storage of essential kit and a general exit. The rest is just awesome as always

Bit late but high ceilings do actually somewhat matter. They allow for better circulation of air to prevent patients or staff getting sick due to aerosols. That's what I was told at least.
It is all awesome! It was cool to see the titan suits, and the poor orgs bomber. The mining support setup and salvage and repair are my favorites, but the Cat has so many possibilities with the modules. I loved the Free Willy Stormwal poster. You always put such clever bits in these. Lots of fun to explore. I need to go make myself a Klescher Rehabilitator now.

Crickey you done a lot of work I want the Battle Cat :) The refueling i think better for a FPS game mode, carry fuel line to landed ship, connect and refuel. Medical module we need for Valkyrie. Prisoner transport would be a cool game loop. Hope that comes in with passenger game loops. Drug lab... grow your own illegal drugs?
The detail and effort put into these is amazing. Most ideas are great, but I dislike so many of the modules being one sided and the large cargo module would block access to other modules. The rest are very interesting ideas though.

Three modules I'd like to see: - Torpedo module: Holds 12-16 size 5 torps that get spat out the side doors. - Fuel tank module: this one is obvious, adds 5,000 Quantum fuel units. - Weapons module: adds four size 5 weapons mounts that extend from the sizes of the Caterpillar. OR - Capital killer module: replaced front most cargo section and front section. One Size 7 Ballistic cannon.
Having the standard cargo module doors for a lot of these pods just feels kinda off. I think you could have good luck mocking up different exteriors. For example, the drone module's exterior would be solid, but with hatches for drones to dock in/out of like the Carrack. Maybe an upper window for the store module and the lower half doubles as stairs as those are more convenient for casual shopping? Also, we need Caterpillar Phoenix modules like the Constellation Phoenix. And to follow Phoenix tradition, the passengers are only able to enter it by going up the janky lift and through the crew cabins :)
Imagine having a Clubbing/Luxe Caterpillar that change his position and stops on orbit everyday where people meet together after a long journey. With events. Would love to run such a thing haha

I'd love to see a Krak-Baby module... Mini Kraken, can carry 3-4 Buccaneer... Move the top turret to the rear so that the whole front storage area has landing pads bolted on Drake style. One or two storage bays are retrofitted with some fuel tanks off a Starfarer....
This is EPIC and definitely worth the sub.

And now I want a realy realy long Caterpillar with all those modules stacked together... like a tugboat.
I absolutely will love that if that's the type of modularity you can get... I would even buy a Cat then and probably more or all of the modules lol. Especially if you can mix and match modules instead of just going with a preset selection. I was thinking similar things for the Carrack if that ever gets its modularity. But with the Carrack's semetrical walkway, I can aslo see the 3 module sections split into 6 modules half the size. I could also see the top hanger being a module, also being full or split. Like a split fuel module, with fuel scoop half and quantainium mining half, like a smaller version of... the Oddesy I think? Not able to sell what it harvests, just extend its own range, at least for the half-size combo modules... maybe a full size quantanium mining/refining module could also store 5 or so SCU of quant to sell or refule smaller ships with? I can see having full or half modules for sensor and/or hacking where half-size modules have like... a size 3? dish like the Terrapin, but need to be paired to a data storage module, or a full size that uses size 4 dish and has some built-in storage that can be expanded by pairing to a data module? So many possibilities.
A fair number of those ideas would actually make sense given the ship's clearly modular design, but honestly half of them are just things to throw at the wall to see if they stick, and either wouldn't be practical given the role of the ship, or are features that other ships would do better.

Research Science & Exploration is beautiful man
Just a thought on the Drone bay in the research and exploration variant. If you put the drone launcher bay at the bottom you could have the bottom only section open to release the drones, Then you could have a repair and refit coming up through the floor to pull the drone up into the next level where you could put the control chairs as well, and then make the top hatch stay locked down and be a window instead. would give exceptional view and you could launch one side and retrieve from the other side, Seriously you don't want to have to vent a section to space every time you deploy drones.
I love the idea of giving the Cat a Q ship version (this is an anti pirate ship that surprises would be attackers).
Sees a very smooth framerate: "ah... its a 3d animation by someone that is not CIG"
With the fury being introduced having a module dedicated to snub fighters would be amazing
great stuff right here. would've liked to have seen a hanger module for the CAT, turning it into a small fleet carrier.

Would think that a "gunship" Module could be interesting (going the way of the AC130 gunships) Otherwise an actual further outward extending bay Module which gives you more space when landed as a workshop / building module.
I’m totally doing convenience and passenger modules, imagine how much you can charge for a seat with no legroom for a system hop.
CIG should definitely hire you, pr at least use your ideas. Great work!

Would you consider doing a Medium sized Salvaging ship? With salvage coming soon theres definently a major gap in the Salvage ship roster as we only have the entry level Vulture and the Capital sized(and very buggy) reclaimer. I generally prefer the Mid scale ships as I find them a nice balance but CIG has not even hinted at a new salvage ship...
Easy for base building once they make make it so you can undock the small ship that's attached to the larger transport section.
Would be nice if the fast-food looking ones like at 08:54 had a staircase to lead up to it, could be annoying having to walk through an entire ship just to get a quick drink or whatever. Btw great job the module swapping interface at the end. I can barely imagine how long it would take CIG to create something simple and efficient like that...

Would also like to see different door options instead of all these units sides just open the entire module to space. Having doors with ramps or elevators or even just elevators instead would be an added benefit!

This concept works well with your newest. If the Laurion should mine quantanium, it would have to find huge rocks to mine 512 SCU of quantum, otherwise it would not fill it, or end up blowing up. This would work like a combine and a tractor on a field. The combine harvests, but can't store a lot, so it would go directly to the tractor. In this case, the quantanium from the Laurion would be refined instantly, and turned into a safe load, that would then be carried by the Caterpillar.

I wish they had the modules readu, heck i wish they had half the stuff in the PDF ready , (side doors that go out and down, cockpit that detaches, etc)

You should make the caterpillar into a luxury vessel. Redesign it from inside out. Cross between the 890 and the Phoenix. !!!!!! I mentioned this on a comment on Star Citizen you tube page, but you could design the first concept of a variable fighter similar to "Robotic", or "Macross". Seeing a fighter transform into a big robot would be the next level of fighters. Even create a android that goes along with the ship and becomes part of it. Star Citizen does use movie references so you could do the same thing.

Okay so I want to play star citizen my only question is, is there a way to pilot a freighter? Something with every module? So that way you can solo pilot this freighter with friends or a crew? I know this would be ver expensive of a ship given what I’ve seen but I am wondering if there will ever be a fright or type of ship

the cat. is one of my Favret ships in the verse 2nd to none i use as carrier with snubs i use for hulling i use for mining like in this video the tractor and the ability to home over 60 pods off the Mole and prospector does wonders as of now i take the wheels off the med URSA and use for Spawning if you can think of what all this ship can do you will have all 3 versions also but love this video i hope they rework this ship to do half what is in this video .. also i keep MOB on bord my ship in case i need to refit a A2 or A1` sky is the limit for this ship

its a cargo ship at the moment, you can not buy this at the base game price, you buy it for real money or buy it in game with money you earn from doing stuff in-game. as of right now no modules for the cat are in-game.
It would be great if "Astro Chronicles" concepts could be converted to the existing game engine so they could be used? ;-)

the CAT is a ship in-game, but its only the cargo ship. you can buy it with real money or with in-game money "aUEC"
When and if this ever becomes a thing u better be able to mix and match. Make a mobile base
