Is it written “made in china” on the bottom of Stanley’s thermos? I am asking because I bought it on Amazon sales but I am worried about it’s genuinity. Also, my thermos says it can keep the ice for 160 hours, not for 150

I have both and have a lot of experience with both since I have used them for nearly 15 years now. They are very similar in capabilities both hot and cold. But, where Thermos has a definite advantage is in weight. It is feather light compared to my Stanley. And when I have a full backpack, it makes a huge difference. What I do like about my Stanley is it doesn’t rattle when i carry it because the handle is hinged whereas the Thermos uses a metal buckle system. However, the weight is usually the deciding factor for me which is why I’m more likely to grab my Thermos 40 oz over my Stanley 40 oz most days.

The only real way to test these is measure how much water can be poured away at the times given. Opening them up completely is introducing ambient air inside so a wider opening will have a disadvantage. I own neither yet but brewsnoop's comments seem honest and fair. The Stanley has a longer guarantee but what for? "defective workmanship" won't account for dropping, rolling over a few rocks etc etc. How was your rugged test opinion? In a way neither live up to the claimed times unless "Some" ice left is specified. I think a couple of elastic bands could fix the rattle issue. You nail a very important factor with weight though. Even for me i'm looking for something to keep drinks cold on the beach on a special holiday without going back to the room (suitcase weight advantage to the Thermos) - but later want to use it on camping trips with a canoe & the boys or just in the garden. I'd like a test in sunlight and how they stack keeping things cold. The green colour is natures choice while white/silver would be better, darker colours would be worse.

The Stanley pour-through lid (with the "ball" construction) is strange, and over-engineered. No one (including Stanley) seems to be able to figure out how it works. Look at the lid. It has two sets of threads, with a smooth area in between, and two rubber gaskets. I think the idea is this: when you travel, screw it all the way down (past both sets of threads) to keep it from leaking. When you want to drink coffee, unscrew the lid past the first set of threads. That allows you to pull the lid up about a quarter inch (to pour), and then push it back down, to seal it. When you travel again, screw it all the way down. I think. Thoughts? Thanks.

That is exactly how this pour through stopper is supposed to work. I also tend to think that with the upper shape of the stopper is intended to drink out of directly. The weak point of this stopper is the upper o ring tends to leak a little effectively becoming like a dribble glass.

@@erth2man Thank you! Just to make sure I understand...you think that perhaps we're supposed to drink from the stopper directly? This is certainly possible with cold drinks.

I have both a 1.9litre Stanley and the 1.2litre thermos, Stanley kills it, don't get me wrong the thermos does what it says on the tin but I'm a driver and the stanley cup fits in any cup holder where as the thermos cup is too wide, whats the point in having a flask of coffee in the truck if you can't drink it on the go, stanley number 1

My stanley thermo bottle is 2 years old now. But it would only hold up warm tea for around 5 hours. The giving in point is the plastic cork on top! Its made of plastic and it does worn out through the time :-( and its not cheap option to get replaced

You should most definitely look into getting the 1.4 quart “unbreakable” master series, thermos from Stanley. The statistics are even higher than on this one, which is really ridiculous. They’re great. Edit: 😂 The easiest way to get that stupid piece of paper out that’s in 14 different languages is to use a pair of tongs I’ve learned!

The Master Series from Stanley would've won by a VAST amount!!! But between these 2 bottles here, I would go with the Stanley. Yes the Thermos still had 'ice', but being they are comparable in price another thing should be taken into account. Stanley has a LIFETIME warranty, whereas Thermos AT BEST is a only a 5 year warranty. I have used the Stanley warranty after having it for over 9 years and they did honor the lifetime warranty.
