Stanley 50 Litre 2.75 HP Silenced Air Compressor First Impressions

My first impressions of the Stanley 50 Litre 2.75 HP Silenced Air Compressor are that it seems to be a pretty well made unit. It is certainly quiet in comparison to my old belt driven V twin that has recently gone to compressor heaven. Don't be too fooled by the silenced hype though. While they are considerably quiet compared to a belt driven type they may still restrict your hours of use if you have neighbours close by. Don't get me wrong, I reckon the noise level is fair but don't expect the advertised "silence".
So, my first overall impression is that they are a well made, much quieter than most, and should tick all the boxes for most home mechanics and handymen.
The only negative point that I can see is the lack of a shut off valve on the air outlets. I was unable to remove my air tools from the line without draining the tank considerably. I would suggest that if you buy one of these units that you fit an air tap on the outlet to save time and frustration.

I just bought one last week they are very quiet. Love it. Would never go back to a noisy one after this. I do agree they should come out with valves

It appears that only one motor (two pistons each) is working on mine as only the two front cylinders are getting hot. The other two are cold. Plus there is no air coming from the rear filters. There is the front

I'm upgrading my compressor to a quiter model and have been looking at this. Do you know how many decibels it is - even an approx ready from a phone app decibel reader? Just downsized my laser studio to home based and I'm trying to get a quiet-ish solution.

Noise Rating 62dB@5m LWA84db These are the specs from the site. As I said in the comments they are much quieter than a conventional compressor but I wouldn't call them silent.

It's still working well. As far as the home handyman and occasional user goes these are fine. I ended up putting taps on both outlets which is something that I feel they should come with standard. The quality is OK for the price.

How long is your power cord? Mine is only 1.3m limits what power points I can use.

Yes the cord is a bit short, but you can easily change it or add an extension lead. I have several power points in my shed that are low down so it hasn't been an issue so far..

I got this model yesterday, and today when I went to move it brown water started dripping from the drain valve. Bit early for surface rust I would have thought.

I have the same but it's something you get with all compressors. They should be well painted or coated on the inside but I guess that would burn off when they weld the cylinder together. I agree it shouldn't happen. I took a good look at the Chicago brand because they are aluminium but getting hold of one with the Covid hold ups made me decide on this one. Just have to drain it regularly, it will last for years.

Push the hose onto the tool hard before releasing the sleeve none of the workshops i worked in had valves anywhere near our airtools and they come off ok only problem we had was the barrels of the airtools ice up in the winter.

Yep! Tried that but when you get older you don't have the strength in your hands that you used too. I might add too that there's no way a woman could attach and detach from a charged hose either. Having a tap on the valve is a much easier solution.

@@rustypanels5719 Boy that sounded noisy. I alway used the push button type fitting. The big advantage is the male fitting goes inside a o ring, which seals it better. The other type it has to but up against a rubber flat ring. That's why it's so hard to remove as you have to push against air pressure. Just a note, super cheap will have these on special for only $399 on thursday the 22 nd of June.

I'm sure there are quieter units out there and I was going to go for the Chicago but they weren't available locally and the price of this one at the time was nearly half that of the Chicago.

It's quiet compared to a belt driven compressor but I'm sure there are others that are quieter than the Stanley. I went with it because it was the only one that was available in my area at the time and the price was fair.

Could you please say how much less electricity Petrol air compressor consumes as apposed to same power and capacity fully Electrical compressor ? 10 Times less ? 2 times less ? Thanks

  • @rustypanels5719

I would think that running an electric would be cheaper than a petrol. The petrol needs to keep running in order for the air tank to remain topped up where an electric will turn itself off and on again. Petrol powered are great for areas where you don't have power available which is a plus.
