Did you ever get this issue sorted for the client? I don't understand how there would be standing water if there is a sump pit at a lower grade.

I once owned a home that had running water under the slab. During heavy rains, it literally was a river under the slab. The sump pump did work to keep the water out, but i never trusted it. I was so thankful after i sold that home. I'll NEVER buy another home that has a sump pump. Just too risky, IMO.

Can you explain or do a video on the power vent system you described?

How is the vent installed? When the water is dried up and rains a lot will the basement seep?

We’ve got a sump that runs 24/7 but the water is still springing up through cracks in the slab like a fountain.

I hate it when people post videos and don't respond to any of the questions or comments.

What type of company or service can help remedy or determine the cause of water seepage?

I just bought an old Victorian house. There was standing water in the basement, which I thought just needed pumping out. When I did start pumping, I discovered a finger-width-sized hole in the floor that bubbles up new water with every pump. It ALWAYS returns to the same level after pumping it out then stops. And no matter how many times I pump it comes back. No idea what to do with it.

water table is at a certain level. It probably is lower when there is a drout.

So the only choices a person has is to grade a slope away from the house with a 3” drop per 10 feet. Or install a sump pump with a interior french drain around the perimeter dug out to the footer all leading to flow into the sump pit. Or you excavate around the entire house down to the footer and completely seal the foundation walls with a rubber membrane and line the existing slab with a moisture and vapor barrier using a thicker plastic of like 12mm minimum taking that barrier up the walls at least 12 inches then pouring an entire leveling cement with smaller aggregate in order to provide strength and not damage the barrier.. lastly ive had an engineer actually call to install simple pumps that directly attach to the slab like the radon mitigation air pumps except these have veins to pump water.. he called for 5 pumps to be installed with a bore of 3” round and 24” deep into the ground below the slab then little mini sump things installed in the holes.. i guess because this house was so old and was built on a limestone footer dug into a mountain he didnt want to cut out a big pit. 3 of the holes we had to use a diamond core drill to get the depth he wanted.. the pumps were super quiet and only ran a few times a day when it rained.. used a sonograph to place the holes in the main tributaries the water was running off below the house eroding the stone away.. pretty neat house..

My concrete is pushed up in the center of basement and has a crack. When its stepped on away from the crack water will come out of the crack. I'm guessing its going to cost alot to fix. House was built in 1860.

The house we recently bought had the same problem. There was moisture under the basement slab and it heaved the floor at different spots which caused uneven floors, stuck windows and doors. I was able to get records from the company that fixed the issue. They installed 5 piers and 25 concrete underpins to fix that. Cost around 35k (21 years ago). I hope it has been fixed for good. I would recommend to take care of it ASAP or else it will become a big problem. Good luck!

We have an abondoned oil tank below the basement, which eventually rotted. It created a spring through the old fill connection.

whats the point removing the rocks from the hole? you didnt make it any dryer by doing that.

No, it can be done for a few hundred dollars if you do it yourself.

I have same issue. What about a French drain system around the entire home...? That would take care of rain run off.

I installed a French drain system around 60 feet of perimeter of my home. Trenched down to the footer, filled all cracks with hydraulic cement, waterproofed the footer and foundation with liquid rubber, laid sediment fabric and gravel, then two side-by-side slotted corrugated pipes as the drain pipe; then covered w/ more sediment fabric, and ran the pipes to a sump pump buried in the yard that discharges to the street. We haven't had a heavy, prolonged rain yet, but this system should work very well.

@@JK-sx1pg I'm estimating it was over $2000. That includes 4 sump pumps - two in the yard and two interior. Also, had to rent a jackhammer to break the slab floor in two spots, then hand-dig the sump pits. I did all the labor. The labor would have been over $10K!

I have the same problems with my 65 years old basement. I will try this.

We just started to install a shower in our basement and the plumber discovered standing water after breaking open the cement around the shower drain pipe. The water went away after he used a drill to go into the tile. Attempted to install the shower and noticed water coming up, so the room everything out and ran the drill against the tile again, plus cleared out some of the cement. We ran a hose of water into the hole for about 2 hours and it never rose again to come through the hole. Currently have the project on hold as the plumber isn’t sure what’s causing the issue. Our house is 16 years old and we never had water issues in the basement. Any suggestions or thoughts?

@@ibhu313 we did and the issue was caused due to sand being packed into the stone that was under the basement cement. There was no way for the water to get to the drain tile. We ended up breaking out a small portion of cement that went to the wall (near the drain tile) and removed all the old stone that was packed with sand. We then placed fresh stone in there and everything was fixed.

@@jw75, when you say tile do you mean the footer tile? I’m having the same problem with standing water sitting just above the p-trap for my shower which is about 11” beneath the basement floor. I’m right up against our outside wall near where the footer should be just trying to understand a little more where the plumber drilled and how big. Thanks I’m advance…

@@tkamp18 sorry for the delayed response. The tile that I’m talking about is the black tubing that goes around the outside perimeter of the house, underneath the basement cement flooring - the water is suppose to enter that and then drain into the sump pump. All the stone under the cement where our shower drain was placed was full of sand and would not drain to that black tile tubing. Our plumber broke out a small area of cement from where the drain was right up to the exterior wall where the tube/tile was located. They then removed all the sand blocked stone and placed fresh stone in that area. This opened up a path to the drain tile and corrected our issue. Hoping this will help you as well.

Tony Barbuto had to have floor Jack hammered up and drainage system installed, even after that I got a small amount water come thru floor
