Standing the ice with our minds | Wim Hof | TEDxYouth@Maastricht

Wim Hof discusses discusses the ability of our minds and bodies to influence our immune system.
Wim Hof is a Dutch world record holder, more commonly known as the Iceman, due to his unique ability to withstand extreme cold. He is best known for his twenty world records including the longest ice bath, staying immersed in ice for over 1 hour and 13 minutes. He describes his ability as being able to “turn his own bodies thermostat up” through the power of his mind. Some of his other impressive feats are climbing to 7.3km altitude at Mount Everest wearing nothing but shorts. He’s also completed a full marathon above the polar circle in Finland wearing, yes you guessed it, nothing but shorts. Just through the power of his mind, he was able to run a marathon through the Namib desert without water. It’s been scientifically proven that Wim is able to directly influence his Autonomic Nervous and Immune System.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

Why isn’t this video ranked top TED talks? I’m shocked it only has a little over 165,000 views. The name of the video should be changed to “cure or healing for depression, anxiety, cancer, sickness, etc” so when people search for answers, this video will be a top search. It’s a shame it’s titled “standing the ice with our minds” because the message in this video is so powerful and it’s something the world should hear. If the world hears this message and learn how to control their state physiologically, doctors and pharmaceutical companies would be out of business.

If the Internet is good for anything it is to spread valuable information fast. I envision a system where you take classes, and much as You-tube content is layered - so could the classes. Everyone get an unique view from every class, debating the themes they learned in the next. Human intelligence, and knowledge available would explode - making our next generation our caretakers, and for all intensive purposes, our gods.

I also noticed before brushing my teeth in the morning I usually have a white coating on my tongue which is toxins being excreted during sleep, but now my tongue is a pretty pink! No more Toxins! I was able to do a full minute of cold shower & it's so refreshing compared to a hot shower! Thanku Wim Hoff 😊

It is part of my cold training. I also take almost every day a cold shower. I had the feeling that i had the same consciousness on a cold shower as in a deep meditation. My yoga teacher confirmed this feeling into a fact.

😇 Winter I'd Swim In My Blue Jeans 😇 When I was younger, every winter I was always drawn by the little river that runs through the small town of Dallas Oregon. I just KNEW I needed to feel the Cold water to actually feel more alive. So on a few occasions I swam in Winter-Cold water, in my Blue Jeans. I suggest everyone healthy enough to do it, should experience it. I also have a calling constantly to the Great Lakes. I love it there, been all around the Great Lakes many times. It feels like it changes something, or just matches up with my natural frequency. Lake Michigan and especially Lake Ontario just feel like some sort of peace throughout my body and being. However the coldest weather I've ever endured and worked in was North Dakota, -56°, I'll never forget it.

The issue is i can't get past the 40-50 because i find the oxygen runs out. wim says you need to do it a few more times ie one after the other. My advice is just to mix it up with planks or other yoga type poses. on the cold. I am finding that my home shower is just not cold enough. I am looking forward to winter and installing a home plunge pool which should help. wim says the more you do the cold the more used to it you get so perhaps that is what is happening. one final add. youtube ido 2.0 squats. i am now working this in as well.

I mean all meditation does that. However, I have noticed my body getting stronger as I took cold showers and what not. and now that winter is coming around I'm not as uncomfortable in the cold weather as I would have anticipated this year.

@Wim Hoff, to your question "WHY DOES IT GO SO SLOW?" [to spread the word], I think we can give some pieces of answer: - IT IS TOO MUCH OF A DISRUPTION of all our scientific paradigms. So it makes it very difficult to convince influential people in just a few minutes. Even in a few days, experiments, etc., most advanced scientists can't believe it before they see it or live it. Any scientist which gives credibility to such disrupting theories gets discredited if he does so without verifying it strongly. I must say that I feel the same way... This takes time. - "IT IS FOR FREE", as you say... and it may be the first obstacle ! Because discoveries get spread by people who take advantage on it. Most influential medias don't talk for free. Politics neither. Overmore, any means to become healthy for free is a threat to pharmaceutical firms, as it is simply a potential (huge) loss of pharmaceutical market - one of the biggest market in the world. So pharmaceutical firms will naturally fight against this threat, that's their job. And as they are the richest industries in the world, they may spend millions to make it silent. - if you can't rely on medias or other influential people, the only remaining path is the popular's word of mouth.
