Standard Handlebars vs Clip-Ons | What’s The Difference?
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
What motorcycle handlebars are best? Traditional bars are more common but the fastest bikes have clip-ons. So here are the differences, pros & cons and which handlebars are better.

I like traditional handlebars for two main reasons: I can rotate the bars away from me (towards headlight) in order to increase leg clearance (had to do that for the Shadow 1100). And also, simply because you have more room for mounting stuff. Quadlock for phone, quadlock for a bridge pass, maybe one or two RAM Mount (or Kemi Moto) cup holders, can change mirrors out easily that clamp around a bar in case the screw mount for mirror has been broken. Traditional bars are great imo.
I knew all this already but you still made it entertaining to watch
Awesome video, mate. Just one thing: you're not supposed to place your weight on your wrists when riding bikes with clip-ons. Instead, you're supposed to grip the tank with your legs and support your torso with your core. The goal is to avoid having any weight on your hands and wrists except when countersteering. The point of alleviating weight from your hands and wrists, aside from saving yourself from wrist pain, is to prevent unnecessary input to the bike.

The point kind of still stands though You would possibly get more tired because you use your core more, compared to the upright sitting position of most bikes with standard handlebars

True but it’s hard to do particularly when riding for longer than an hr. Everyone and I mean everyone I know complains about wrist and back pain from riding super sports. Of course there is always that one guy that could ride from NYC TO Cali and not have issues.

@@spartanx169x Not all supersports are the same. Many older bikes and some new ones are not that bad. I have a 2003 FireBlade 954 and just 2 weeks ago I rode from Belgium to Spain, a 1800+ km with the longest day being over 1100km. And I'm not fit by any means and I'm over 50yo. No issues with back and wrists on a sportbike if you ride correctly. I won't say it's comfortable like a GS, but if that's your only bike and you love sportbikes it's not an issue. I also used to own a 2011 S1000RR. Also good for long distance. For me the only issue is the legs bend. I have an older injury on one knee and I need to stretch it from time to time. That's where the relatively short range helps. I need to refuel about every 200km. :) I love sportbikes and I'll keep riding them until I can't do it anymore.

Great video. I recently put traditional bars on the 1998 VF800. Best upgrade I have done to the bike in the 19 years of ownership. Renthal 755 bars are perfect for a VFR800.
When I was a young one I got a bike.....By the time I got into motorcycling, the normal handlebar was engrained into my psyche as the only way to go..... I love fast sillyness and sbk, but that works only on a circuit...... Having better handling from clip-ons is kinda silly to say (try clip-ons in heavy trafic or dirt, or anything else than going fast, and it's going to get harder faster).... I kinda love them both, but I'm more of an endurance guy than a fast "all the time" guy, so I want to enjoy my 250 kph for 500 km and still have wrists at the end....
Yay! It's Chaos Sunday!!!
I like adjustable clipons - not just rotating them around fork legs, but also up and down with additional hinge.
Love your vids 🙏🏼
there is another effect. the clipons typically angled downwards puts the wrist in a position where the throttle can be controlled more precisely. For the record I don't like clipons.
The 0:23 audio transition was perfect 😀

thought the exact same thing lol
One thing missing is that at high speed much of the weight on clipons is cancelled by wind. With "normal" bars you is dragged rearwards. So it depends on what type of riding you mostly do. When we had no speed limits it was comfortable to ride 400 miles averaging 90+ with clipons.
Always good to watch. Clubmans are single piece u shaped and center clamped design handlebar
Would love for you to do a video on how wheel diameter affects handling.
Clip-ons for me but I also prefer sport bikes over every other type of bike. The look, the feel, and the riding position. So far have no discomfort on multi-hour rides, but maybe my tune will change when that time comes.
I used to ride a bike with the clip-on handlebars. It had a little sportier position, but it was purely a street bike, Yamaha YBR copy of copy of copy. The one I use now has the traditional ones and as some say in the comments, I prefer it because of the space to mount stuff. I mounted road lights, windshield, phone mount and handguards

A number of racers that go from dirt to road racing forgo clip ons for traditional handlebars so they can get the extra leverage, remember one can tuck tightly with either...
only saw traditional handlebars on supersport bikes when people doing gymkhana stuff...
Thank you for the report. I always wonder if any of the two handlebar types brings more stability to bike?
clip ons all day rryday, regular handlebars make me feel like I’m grabbing ridiculously high chopper bars💀
Almost all my naked bikes have clip ons. The problem is that it is quite impossible to find a good quality clip ons for it 😂. I prefer an aggressive riding position but with the looks of naked bikes. That's the main reason 😊.
Something close to a drag bar, or those riser-style clip-ons like the the MT09 conversion piece or what's found on VFR800s and other sport tourers is ideal, IMO. Unless you're going for peak comfort, in which case, use buckhorn handlebars.
The torque you can apply to handlebars to get the bike to turn fast, as well as, how TIGHT you can turn with them, makes handlebars vastly superior. But yeah, a trackbike maybe you don’t want to turn in that quick, or that tight.😅 You want smoooooooth
Can you put more of a street handle bar on a sport bike. Thanks
Once I'm too old for my R1 ill get some handlebars on it lmao
I have a standard on my Yamaha R6. It rides so nice
Guess it would depend on what sort of riding I planned that day and what motorcycle I was on. I like the riding position of both my 2002 Kawasaki ZX9R and my 2007 Honda VFR800. I also like the riding position on my 1989 Honda Transalp and my 2015 Kawasaki KLR650. If I'm crusin' I like the riding position of my 1983 Yamaha XV920 Virago. It all depends.
4:45 The tuono would like to have a word with you xD
I’d say conventional is what I’d ride with but clip ons just look so good
Clip ons with Murphs risers make a great riding position on my 1000sx. I have been riding for 32 years so I can't lay down and ride anymore.
Clubman bars are single piece that is curved in a way to mimic clip-ons.
Sir,nhow's your Yamaha r1 going so far
but why do alot of traditional naked street bikes come with clip ons form the factory, like for example the TVS Apache 200 or the the SUZUKI gixxer 250 (Great video as always mate❤)
Learner sports bikes have raised clip-ons for better upright seating yet retain full fairings for better weather proofing and visual appearance. Why no-one has done this for faster sports bikes continues to elude me.

4:46 aprilia Tuono v4 what am I to you?
Installed clip-ons on my street bike and swapped them out for the regular bar because the handling got worse and my back hurt on rides longer than 15 minutes. Keep the clip ons for your sport bikes is what I learned from my experience.

Does the clip on handlebars improve fuel efficiency (due to aerodynamic/forward bend position with clip on bars)?
@MuhammadHammadAshraf

@@jululugz2893 No I don't believe they do. They're purely just cosmetic.

Dammit, it's Sunday already. Don't forget to say Happy Mother's Day to whatever females in your life. Likewise, if you're typically a hooligan on the streets, be safe(r) today just so that if a drunkard (or a wine-o) does mow you down, it won't be on Mother's Day (hopefully). TL;DR, Don't forget to say happy mother's day to whoever it applies today, and be safe and make it home alive at least today.
Hey there, i like your videos so much. Could you do a test that shows what the diverents between using a kneepad in a motorcycle pants for example and don't using are?
Mine are bent af because i highsided lol
Dirt bike bars on the sports bike, good for the wheelie.
...and then there are bikes like the FJ1200 whose owners usually replace the clipons with a risered wide bar :D
Dont lean on the clip-ons, use ur legs n feet to hold the bike
4:48 uh… Aprillia Tuono v4 doesn’t look stupid at all & very much so looks and behaves like a proper sport bike while using handle bars & not clip ons.
Los Angeles is a beautiful city
What about the ape hangers? To say one is better is wrong. Each has it's own place for the type of riding.
It's all about Aerodynamics
Something tells me Clip-Ons break easily too compared to traditional one's which just bend at max.
@bearwolffish
21 күн бұрын
Argument being you can just replace the part hat broke, rather than having to replace the entire bar.
I was only riding bikes with clip ons, then I didn't ride at all for quite some time. A few years back I bought a bike again, still sporty, but with a traditional handle bar. I gotta say it took some time for me to adapt. I'm sure it was just in my head, but I felt disconnected from the front wheel, and pushing it a bit harder through the corners felt somehow funny because I wasn't use to bend my arms that much. Now I actually like it, especially the handling at lower speed, and after an hour it's only my knees that make me wanna take a break.
The hands matter
Hello😊
Clip ons are great, but standards are better. (Unless ofc you ride a sports bike)
clip ons: im speed one little rock on a highway: watch how i make this man wet his pants
“A sport bike would look ridiculous with regular handlebars” moto-gymkhana riders 😡
Okay this might be an unpopular opinion but bikes with clip-ons shouldn't be on the streets. When someone suddenly pulls out in front of you while you're riding, you'd be better off with a handlebar which gives you more leverage to swerve instead of a clip-on that will make you almost go straight in comparison. Btw I've owned bikes both with clip-ons and handlebars so I do have experience with both.
2:53 bro you don't know how to sit properly on an aggressive bike recently I went for 400 km (approx) ride and came with no back and wrist pain
