Quick question, why is the standard deviation calculation you made for 3,5,7 not over n-1? I thought that 3,5,7 was a sample of the population 3,4,5,6,7. Just asking for clarification. he just did the population standard deviation and not the sample. The sample formula is with n-1

Good question! If they never mention the word sample or population in the question, always assume it is a population either way the answer will be the same for both at the end!

In the clinical laboratory we use sample deviation, not population. 20+ years ago I was only taught sample deviation. The population deviation will be slightly lower than the sample deviation. In most cases it would not matter which one you used, however, there may be some cases where it does change how you would round the standard deviation.
