I been walkin' With my face turned to the sun Weight on my shoulders A bullet in my gun Oh, I got eyes in the back of my head Just in case I have to run I do what I can when I can while I can for my people While the clouds roll back and the stars fill the night … That's when I'm gonna stand up Take my people with me Together we are going To a brand new home Far across the river Can you hear freedom calling? Calling me to answer Gonna keep on keepin' on I can feel it in my bones … Early in the mornin' Before the sun begins to shine We're gonna start movin' Towards that separating line I'm wadin' through muddy waters You know I got a made up mind And I don't mind if I lose any blood on the way to salvation And I'll fight with the strength that I got until I die … So I'm gonna stand up Take my people with me Together we are going To a brand new home Far across the river Can you hear freedom calling? Calling me to answer Gonna keep on keepin' on … And I know what's around the bend Might be hard to face 'cause I'm alone And I just might fail But Lord knows I tried Sure as stars fill up the sky … Stand up Take my people with me Together we are going To a brand new home Far across the river Can you hear freedom calling? Calling me to answer Gonna keep on keepin' on … I'm gonna stand up Take my people with me Together we are going To a brand new home Far across the river Do you hear freedom calling? Calling me to answer Gonna keep on keepin' on … I'm gonna stand up Take my people with me Together we are going To a brand new home Far across the river I hear freedom calling Calling me to answer Gonna keep on keepin' on I can feel it in my bones … I go to prepare a place for you I go to prepare a place for you I go to prepare a place for you I go to prepare a place for you

I can’t believe this song didn’t win the Best Original Song award at the Oscars. It tells such a powerful _true story_ of enslaved people on their journey to freedom. A meaningful song with so much power, intensity, and deep emotion. it’s a wonderful tribute to Harriet Tubman as well. She was a true African-American hero and this song gives her so much justice. Cynthia did a phenomenal job performing it at the Academy Awards, and I really wish the Academy had made a better decision. Regardless, “Stand Up” will always be the winner for me! 🏆

The song shouldnt be used for other bad situations, though. It takes away the actual meaning of the song which is about black people being used as slaves before, so if a female on tiktok uses this sound behind her talking about s*xual assault it isn't right cause viewers won't focus on the meaning of the sound she's using. But I'm not saying the s*xual assault thing isn't important. :)

This song is soooo power that it gives me chills and I cry everytime I listen to it. I can feel every ounce of pain, sorrow, grief and emotion put into this song! It's so disheartening to know what our ancestors went through back in the day, the tortures they had to endure right in front of their children & everyone else to see. And its beyond shameful that we couldn't ALL live & love as GOD OUR CREATOR wanted us to! Love, peace, respect, integrity, morals, values & the list could go on & on. We ALL have to do better, NO tries about it!!! Treat people as you WANT TO BE treated. It really is THAT simple!!!

I listened to this song everyday my first semester of nursing school….. I digested every word. “Early in the morning, before the sun begins to shine… I’m going to start moving toward that separating line…” after hearing that line I got up at 4-5 am most mornings and made it to school before the sun shined! I was mostly the first one to just sit and wait in the parking lot (for the campus to open) studying! and I made it y’all! I passed my first semester!!! “You know I got a made up mind And I don't mind if I lose any blood on the way to salvation And I'll fight with the strength that I got until I die.” My home was literally hit with an E3-E4 tornado while I was in it. I went to the ER, the next day I went to CLINICAL! Like Harriet I refused to give up!

As a 12 year old girl I am proud to be black. My ancestors ran so we could walk. They fought so we could live. The world is changing and people need to accept that everything on this world is meant to be here. We are going to stand up for what's right. And we're gonna get equality no matter what it takes. #BlackLivesMatter isn't a trend it's something that will matter for ever. Are voices are going to be heard. We are going to live. We are going to make our ancestors proud. I'm 13 now, turning 14 in September. I never expected for this comment to get this many likes, thank you to everyone who has replied with positive comments and the wonderful support as well. May God bless you all ❤️

I listen to this song with my 4 year old daughter, she knows the lyrics by heart and sings along with full passion 🥰🥰❤️❤️I teach my children that racism is something ugly and that we should accept every person because God created us and there is no single “race” better than the other, we are all the same, I also teach them that they should be respectful and kind to others and that the color of someone's skin does not matter! I live in Belgium and here it is a multi cultural country, my family is also a mixed family I have nieces and nephews who have dark skin and I love them all ❤️❤️❤️

We still face these hardships and adversity in this life! But it was much difficult for her and our ansecters! But we still are looked at as nothing and less as animals bye all other races and our race is divided not united and never will be until this world ends!
