She clearly isn't a native french speaking person and that's why I admire her performance. Singing in French and in this particular "Edith Piaf" kind of way is very difficult to master so she deserves a round of applause. (And I like her accent, it's adorable)

@@---oi5zi well, I'm not native in french or anything, but I can hear that some of the pronunciations aren't quite right/ it sometimes sounds a bit off. The more french you know the more of these "mistakes" you can probably hear.

The final performance is better in my opinion, better camera shots and more intimate. But why, why, WHY did they not keep the shot with all the birds in the final performance? That looked so good!

@@RodyTheRoad Yes indeed, you could also see from the one angled camera, that Barbara wanted to have a more personal touch om the performance and keep the camera to her and nowhere else.

This. Is. Amazing. Easily one of the best stand-ins I've seen - similar enough to the original from Barbara but different enough to bring new emotions and delivery to the performance. Obsessed!!

She makes me enjoying the song. Her accent is lovely.

The Franks had lived north of the Rhine in the Netherlands and in the area from Cologne to Frankfurt along the Rhine. The Romans had a major road from Cologne over Aachen - Maastricht - Tongeren - Brussels to the Channel coast near Dunkirk. To the north was an area the Romans left in the 3rd century AD and was turned into an empty waste land, to the south people lived who spoke a Latin / Celtic mixture. I actually got goosebumps of this version after detesting the original version

All the respect to Julia, an absolutely stunning lady and a really powerful performance in a non native language

Her voice is deeper and richer compared Barbara's. Because of that, it changes the interpretation of the song a little bit. As Barbara's began vulnerable and innocent, slowly becoming braver and courageous. Her's started angry and confused, slowly becoming somewhat commanding and sassy

It is different, but yes, with the sense of the whole text Barbara's interpretation is closer to what we could think of the song. Though it is her song so she brings it the way she wants to do. The song's meaning is bringing bravoury by delivering herself in front of people. The last chorus is when she finds enough trust to go entirely on stage, but before she is hesitating, and expressing fear. This one is very different but truely more confident, less intimate. It stays technically amazing and the vocals are spot on !

Stand ins perform the songs to help with technical rehearsals before the delegations arrive, so that is light, sound, camera, special effects.

I'm not a fan of this song but this version with this voice give me goosebumps, just perfect

For anyone asking why they have these stand-in rehearsals, this is how I have interpreted it. Hope it makes sense to you all :) So basically it is used for the camera work and lighting and all those kinds of effects. Since it is difficult to bring all the artists to the ESC stage weeks before the competition, these stand-in singer (usually young, local singers) preform all the competitor's songs. Sometimes they sing themselves, but if there are pre-recordings which are preferred to be used, they can lip-sync. When they have preformed, the video is sent to the actual singer and his/her crew in order for them to have an opinion about the staging, etc. This makes the process much quicker and smoother when the original singer/group makes it to the arena for the first time to preform. It is almost like 70% of the work is finished and the artists will just polish it a bit more the final week before competition time :)
