Lyrics: There is a young maiden, she lives all a-lone She lived all a-lone on the shore-o There's nothing she can find to comfort her mind But to roam all a-lone on the shore, shore, shore But to roam all a-lone on the shore 'Twas of the young Captain who sailed the salt sea Let the wind blow high, blow low I will die, I will die, the young Captain did cry If I don't have that maid on the shore, shore, shore ... I have lots of silver, I have lots of gold I have lots of costly ware-o I'll divide, I'll divide, with my jolly ship's cres If they row me that maid on the shore, shore, shore ... After much persuasion, they got her aboard Let the wind blow high, blow low They replaced her away in his cabin below Here's adieu to all sorrow and care, care, care ... They replaced her away in his cabin below Let the wind blow high, blow low She's so pretty and neat, she's so sweet and complete She's sung Captain and sailors to sleep, sleep, sleep ... Then she robbed him of silver, she robbed him of gold She robbed him of costly ware-o Then took his broadsword instead of an oar And paddled her way to the shore, shore, shore ... Me men must be crazy, me men must be mad Me men must be deep in despair-o For to let you away from my cabin so gay And to paddle your way to the shore, shore, shore ... Your men was not crazy, your men was not mad Your men was not deep in despair-o I deluded your sailors as well as yourself I'm a maiden again on the shore, shore, shore ...

This is the song my daughter wants me to sing to her at bedtime. It started when she was tiny, and was having a very fussy night. I ran out of lullabies to sing to her, and this was the first song to pop into my head. It's been one of her favourites ever since.

How you capture emotion and your music makes us think and think hard........about other times and places that are part of someone’s past. You sing about our history and it good for the soul. Even though you’re gone we can still peek into who you were through what you sang. You were one of a kind. God’s blessing to us all!! Wish I could’ve heard you sing live.......but maybe I will some day........in the sweet by and by....

I fear this is an urban legend, that Stan returned to the smoky plane to help more folks. If you look at the escape ramps down out of airplanes: no one is going back up. No, he succumbed to the smoke in his seat. Aye, a tragic loss of an Artist.

People are missing the point of this song. It is an echo, a tamed version of the ancient myth of the Siren, who lures sailors to their doom with her magical singing. The Maid is a supernatural creature, an expression of a mystic feminine power who laughs at the pathetic attempts of mortal men to get the better of her. "She sang captain and sailors to sleep-o." - Her song is an enchantment. "You should have known me before-o!" - They should have realized she was a Siren. "And again I'm a maid on the shore-o!" - The trap has been re-set! "Und das hat mit ihrem Singen/ die Lorelei getan." kzread.info/dash/bejne/o6ejqpiKdq6-j5c.html

I find this song interesting in that it can be interpreted in both ways. The woman is "persuaded" to come aboard... but after much persuasion. That can be taken to be rather ambiguous. Certainly she doesn't seem keen to go immediately. Furthermore, she isn't noted to sing until after she is taken aboard, which makes it unlikely she is a siren as sirens lure men with the song and she did not do that. I enjoy interpreting it as a woman escaping a jerk, but I see where others can interpret in a different way.
