"The Idiot" live is as wonderful as I ever imagined. Tragedy that we lost him. He went as a hero though.

Stan Rogers has one of the greatest voices I've ever heard, so when I searched him on KZread I was disappointed to see barely any videos if him. So glad this recording exists, and it's such good quality too!

Not enough footage of the band in existence, but so glad to have what there is of this wonderful group. I only saw them once, but what a stage filling group they were. Luckily we still have Garnet and his talents.

His way too early death still brings pain to my soul. However, he left us such a legacy of his great music that he will never truly die.

I've heard the tape of this concert. But having gotten to see Stan perform in person, twice, this video reminds me of how very professional he was. He had this fantastic voice and great playing and songwriting and yet when he performed, it came across with such passion and such showmanship. He was really in the right job, that's for sure. Such a wealth for folk music.

Salutations, respect and love from another "Idiot". I just learned what a "Morris dancer" is. God love and rest you, Stan Rogers! The comedy between songs is pure gold! I would certainly have rowed out in my dory with Stan to the Athens Queen! Just for the fun of it!

I would have gladly have taken my Morris side anywhere in North America to dance to Stan playing the Idiot. Unfortunately he passed before I started Morris dancing. And yes, we had a dance written to the Idiot.

Loving and playing both folk and rock'n'roll, Stan's death hit me as hard as Jimi's or Duane's. I'm still in mourning. This video is priceless. What a great artist. I took the opportunity some years ago to tell his mother that, in my musical world, he's the best that ever was.

Thank you Wayne for making this available. I am in the process of reading Garnet's memoire Night Drive (a wonderful read btw) and this is an incredible insight into what they were creating on stage in the early 80's. Tomorrow will mark the 40th anniversary on that horrible tragic flight that stole Stan from us. RIP Stan Rogers, your music will live forever.

We Americans were only privileged to hear/see his music in the USA for a very short time. I discovered his music only by happenstance when I took a "flyer" and bought his Halifax album via an old folk catalog from Rediscover Music. The best "flyer" I ever bought. What a gift he had.

Oh, I was only two when Stan died, but I’ve grown up with his music and Garnet’s being played in my home. From Fresh Water is my favorite Stan album. I still put it on when I’m doing projects around the house. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing Garnet play twice, and he’s wonderful. His ballads are just as beautiful.l Really, no one compares to either of them. I’m very sorry I missed out on seeing Stan and Garnet together in person.

Seriously wow. I know GR always wanted to do his own thing and I'm sure he didn't want to live in Stan's shadow. I always still thought he could do that and still play more of Stan's music. I mean he was right there with his violin. If he wasn't directly part of the creative force behind a song you can bet Stan wrote parts for GR to play or have a say in. It has always baffled me that GR doesn't give the fans that show up what they really want....a bit of the past. GR is a gifted musician in his own right but these concerts with them both are just magical. It seems there is way more to it. @@ItIsJustJudy Thank you for the comment and have a safe and happy new year. PS. Anymore juicy tidbits like this please feel free to share. Oh and doesn't GR run the website? If you don't wanna respond here I can be reached lucifuge1973@gmail.com Kindest regards Oren

Yes, I didn't make it to Stan's last Philadelphia area concert. I thought I'd catch him some other time. Saw Garnet at UPENN afterwards. The Idiot is a great song referring to the internal Canadian migration to the Alberta oil fields by the Maritime fishermen when the cod fishing was suspended. "The government dole will take your soul." Many new Canadian immigrants don't know about these internal refugees.

10:46 Nice to hear Half a Heart in a live performance. Just goes to show that along with all the other numbers presented here that Stan was as good live as he was on record. Actually, I'd even go as far as to say that Stan sounded even better live than on some of his albums. Not because of any flaws in Stan's performance, but to me it seemed that a number of his studio albums were overproduced which, at times, detracted from some of the songs. I much prefer the live versions of Field Behind the Plow, The Idiot, and Working Joe over their studio counterparts. Either way, Stan was a truly outstanding singer/songwriter and it's tragic that he was taken from us so soon.
