Stall after Gastric Sleeve and Bypass ? Dietitian Simple Tricks that Work

Our US-registered bariatric dietitian Katelyn J Mock shares some simple tricks that can help you jumpstart weight loss stall after gastric sleeve, bypass or lap band.
Everybody experiences weight loss stalls. You can hit a weight loss plateau after bariatric surgeries like gastric sleeve and gastric bypass. Don't worry if you're in the middle of one. Here's how to break it! Happy weight loss journey!
You're probably told to reset your pouch by going back to the clear liquid diet. You're not taking in calories or nutrients. This will make you lose weight but also muscle.
The other reason why you lost weight is the decrease in your intake of sodium and reduce the extra water weight in the body.
You also eliminate calories on the reset diet. Your body adapts to the lower calorie levels. By now you've lowered your metabolism and lost weight and muscle.
Now when you start to eat again, you replace the muscle with fat and put on extra pounds.
The dietitian recommends that you maintain a journal of everything you eat. As you go along the weight loss journey, you may start to tolerate more foods and relapse into bad habits. A journal will help you with that. Be mindful of what you eat.
EAT MORE FRUITS AND VEGGIES! It's cliche but still the best practice. Eat as much of these as you can tolerate. Protein may not be as important as you think, especially after 6 months out of surgery.
Try to bring in your activity routine. Your body adapts to the same exercise routine. So change the way you exercise.
There's not much science to prove these things, so you've got to find what suits you best by trial and error.

I had stalled 4 months out. One doctor said pretty much the same thing she's saying but he said if you're not drinking your protein shakes get back on them. And spread them out thru the day. I did that and lost 5 lbs over night. Needless to say 4 months out I'm loosing again. 😊

Thanks for sharing your post-op experience. It's great to hear that protein shakes helped you overcome weight stall post bariatric surgery.

Still better than a period, imo. Lol. It was going to kill me right when it stopped. Very painful for days on end. Nasty headaches. Maybe Overeaters Anonymous?

@@windsofmarchjourneyperrytr2823 This gives me hope, lol. I'm 43 and hate getting periods but also dreading the menopause. I'm a little less scared of it now. Also I don't know the situation of mothermgt and realize this is an old comment but I've also hit a stall following bariatric surgery and I'm also considering OA. So I am also encouraged by you in that :)

I'm 3 months post op. It gets better. I'm down 52 pounds. I lost 18 pounds in the 1st week. The 2nd week I lost 8. The 3rd I had a stall but remember your also losing inches. When I have a stall I up my protein in take and go back to the liquid stage. Hope that helps.
