    Couple redfish tips. Don’t be afraid to slow way down and let your bait just sit on the bottom. Notice their mouth is in the bottom of their face they want to eat things off the bottom (crabs, shrimp, etc). Letting them find it will be the best case scenario. In the winter the fish slow way down and get spooked easily so working that bait fast around those shallow fish will scare them. A lot of the techniques will be similiar to what you through for small mouth a lot of finesse swimbaits. But don’t have to swim them, dragging and bouncing are very effective. Lastly don’t be afraid to use lit tackle. The go to is a 2500 reel with 10-15lb braid to a Fluor leader on a 7’ rod in the 6-12lb range. These a lot to learn but that should give you a good starting point. If you have any questions on saltwater fishing let me know.

  • @alana.8593

    So when you see them chasing and they're not biting we go slow? Cause I've had very frustrating days seeing reds eat right in front of me but they don't bite, once I went through my whole tackle box and they didn't bite any lure, but I didnt think about slowing down and bouncing it off the bottom, I'll try that next

  • @brennanmahoney9591

    @brennanmahoney9591

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@alana.8593 Yes especially when the waters cold they will get very finicky and will spook easy. There have predators and are not at the top of the food chain unlike most LGM bass so they are not always as aggressive. A lot of guys will use z man baits because they float so when you stop your bait and let it sit it doesn't lay flat on the bottom, the tail will float up like a shrimp or crab making it easier for the redfish to find and eat. But I can't stress it enough you can't fish too slow for redfish, and if you see them out it in front of them and just let them find it (AND WHEN THEY ARE NOSING DOWN ON IT DON'T MOVE IT). A good way to think of fishing with artificails is when you are fishing fast you are covering a lot of water and a lot of fish are seeing your bait but a lower % are eating it. When you fish slow you are covering less water so less fish see your bait but your presentation should be that much better resulting in a higher % of fish eating your bait. There is so much to learn about red fishing but this touches the surface on some mistakes a lot of people make. P.S. another secret a lot of guys are starting to use is ned rigs for redfish/trout. The way they stand up on the bottom with the bait pointed up is perfect. I like to use a heavy wire ned head with a 3.75" z man streakz.

    @@brennanmahoney9591 thank you so much for this info, i forgot that reds/trout aren't at the top of the food chain, i always thought that if i reel it fast they would just react to it and eat it like a bass would, definitely changed my whole perspective on inshore fishing. btw i fish on the southern end of the laguna madre (SPI to be exact) if you would like to link up and wet a line sometime. Again thank you so much for this, i will try the ned rig next time i go.
