Stages of Shock | Types of Shock | Shock (Part 2)

In this second lesson in our series of lessons on shock, we talk about the different stages of shock as well as a quick overview of the different types of shock. We continue presenting these higher level, fundamental concepts of shock that not only apply to all forms of shock, but play a vital role in your understanding, recognizing, and thus being able to appropriately intervene and treat.
We start by breaking down the three stages of shock and covering the differences between each of the stages and what will happen as your patient progresses through each stage.
Then we move on start the introduction to the different types of shock, also known as the causes. We break down the three main categories of causes and list any of the subcategory types of shock and how they relate to one of three main types.

    I am a student in a second degree accelerated nursing program, with my previous degrees being in chemistry. I hope to work in the ICU when I graduate and have been supplementing my med-surg 2 class this semester with your videos. I really appreciate the *depth* of the content you cover. No other nursing videos get into the weeds with the A&P/patho like yours do and it really helps for a complete understanding. That coupled with your critical care experience makes your videos some of the best on youtube! Thank you so much and please keep making more videos! :-)

    irreversible shock is when the compensatory ends, would that be when the patient presents with a decreased heart rate and a low BP? is that a way to identify irreversible shock?

  • @ICUAdvantage

    @ICUAdvantage

    Жыл бұрын

    Its not necessarily about compensation ending. The body will continue to attempt to compensate as it can, but its just the point at which the damage from lack of perfusion is no longer salvageable. Unfortunately there isn't a tell on when this point happens and so we just need to try and treat as early as possible to try and prevent getting to this point.
