Two extraordinary compositions, by Poulenc and Martin, flawlessly offered up by two extraordinary masters of music, each brilliantly becoming one with their instruments, each giving forth with powerful expression of mind, movement, and moment. Maria Ollikainen draws magic from that piano, sometimes gently, sometimes with almost demonic determination and strength -- and always beautifully. As for Clara Andrada de la Calle, we are again witness to her tenacious intensity, her unending passion and expressiveness, her clear love of music, and her immaculate skill in bringing us into her world. Unlike any other, Andrada de la Calle causes her flute to dance so, so freely, unbridled, so that it and she can again take us on another magic carpet ride. Which she sure does here! Wow! Double Wow!

The Martin left me in tears- it was almost brutal not to hear thunderous applause at the end. Thank you both from the bottom of my heart for this. It was magical. Fine performances! Poulenc sonata: 2:45 - Poulenc's pieces for winds are unique and great. (Clarinet, Oboe, Flute, Horn, Bassoon...). Martin Ballade: 16:40 I'm so happy to discover this terrific piece.

Clara was already my favorite flutist! Now I have a favorite pianist as well: Maria Ollikainen is nothing less than brilliant in these two difficult pieces. What a pairing!!

She is truly remarkable, but if you've been taught by Pahud then it's fairly inevitable! Both principal flautists in the FDR and the flute section on a whole is rather underrated, Mr Wittiber is also outstanding in my opinion, I would like to see him also play the Poulenc and especially the Reinecke Flute Concerto.

@@markmingard6882 I concur totally. Already watched Wittiber's Stage/Seven turn. Excellent! hr Orchester is my favorite nowadays. I'd love to hear the other flutists, too! I'm also a major fan of the principal oboist - don't know his name, but fabulous!!

@@paulsomers6048 Out of interest I'd like to know your opinion on the Reinecke Flute Concerto with Sebastian Jacot on KZread, in my opinion a fabulous flautist. I can't remember her name but the guest principal in Schubert 1 and 4 on this channel is also stunning! I wish the orchestras in England would have comparable flute sections and flautists.

@@markmingard6882 I really like Jacot's performance. I don't understand why the concerto is not more often performed! I've never heard it live. And I'm married to a pro flutist and was a professional music reviewer for 20 years covering live concerts only, and that in a busy musical area! Often covered 3 pro concerts per week! Never heard the Reinecke concerto, or for that matter, any Reinecke at all!! Schade!

The beautiful and good flutist that we often see performing with Frankfurt Radio Symphony has more teutonic than spanish somatic traits. I was convinced, as I think many youtubers, she was German

I feel sorry for you. If you don't understand that her facial expressions and bodily movements grow from the music and are not "thought out" ahead of time, then you don't understand that she (a most other musicians) feels and reacts to the music with the whole body and spirit. If I see a musician who doesn't respond physically to the music they are playing, I am usually left cold. But it someone is "putting on a show", it soon becomes evident and makes the performance a mockery. Clara is not putting on a show. She is allowing us to watch as she puts her whole self into a performance.
