With two converging mountain ranges to explore, Stage 3 of the 2021 Absa Cape Epic is not short on climbing. Nestled in the nook between the Groot Winterhoek and the Witzenberg Ranges the Tulbagh Valley is not hasty to reveal its rewards. The stage begins benignly enough, until the first ever Dimension Data Hotspot sprint, down the town’s 300 year old Church Street. Thereafter the climbing begins in earnest; upwards towards the Bone Trail. Beyond, a network of brand new singletracks explores virgin territories. Well-established singletracks provide an exhilarating reward for conquering the two thirds of the day’s climbs. But one huge climb remains; Fanties Pass, arguably the toughest climb of the 2021 route. Topping out at over 20% and averaging 14% for its final 2 kilometres it will demand every ounce of energy. Below the summit the Land Rover Technical Terrain awaits on more virgin singletrack.

I love watching this and i prefer watching this over UCI XC world cup, This is the real Cross country mtb race. This is like the tour de France of mtb but it's better because it's a mtb race you're inside the nature.

great ! anyone knows why Cape Epic races is XCM race whereas two years ago was still XCO ? this year Marathon jerseys are considered vs XCO ones when Nino was racing in 2019...

I believe if the xco world champ(Nino) was there racing he would be in the rainbow as it trumps the xcm jersey.

@@VictorMartinez-gy7ev When Nino and Alban were there as xco and xcm world champs Nino wore the rainbow stripes because xco is seen as higher up than xcm. Alban in the press conference said he should be allowed to wear the rainbow as it’s an xcm race not xco which does make sense. Enjoy the race…

@@terryedleston4951 ok yes... I also remember commentators were saying in 2019 that it was a XCO race, reason for wearing all the national XCO jerseys. Now we see the XCM national champs and XCM world champs jerseys. Maybe cause there are neither XCO national champs this year nor Nino... they allow the other side... wich is not consistent. Anyway, it s obvious it s a XCM the Cape Epic... though the XCO riders are often stronger than XCM ones in XCM races I noticed... e.g. in 2019.

@@josesuarez4021 yo pedaleo 150 km de 25 a 30 km por hora con aro 26. seguramente pedalean de 30 a 35 las damas

@@macariocallisaya5860 en qué condiciones lo haces?? Tiene mucho que ver el terreno (existen zonas muy técnicas) y el desnivel acumulado. En la etapa 3 fueron 88 km con 2000 desnivel positivo.

@@josesuarez4021 desnivel se refiere a subida y bajada? si es asi, en bajada lo hago a 45 y subida a 20. en cuanto al terreno todo asfalto, no me gusta manejar en tierra, ya que se frega mas rapido la bicicleta, y no tengo mucho dinero para estar gastando
