Most trebuchets where actually hand powered. Instead of a heavy weight getting pulled up a whole bunch of people pulled on ropes to power most trebuchets.

something i never really see talked about in the slinging community is about Ammunition Holding bags , in almost every painting where balearic slingers are depicted they always had a bag either crossbody or on their waist but i never see people talk about those bags, you should make a video on them it would be cool.

Good point. I reload with my right hand and keep my ammo on the right, others reload with their left hand from a bag on the left. There is a slinger carved on Trajan's column with ammo in a fold of the cloak over the left arm, various modern slingers have tried this and said it was horrible. There are two Greek illustrations of slingers with a small bag hanging from the left elbow, this would work well for a right handed reload but I can't think why a cross body bag wouldn't be better.

I personally think that staff sling is much too short. A longer staff and sling should add more distance and speed to your throws.

I have a video on staff slings. The sling length cannot be changed, it sets the release timing. The staff can be longer but it becomes more cumbersome to reload with.

Historically they came in both two handed and smaller one handed variants. Its personal preference

The Balearic sling sound is so cool, and it just looks neat. I gotta try one someday but im afraid of using slings and hurting myself lol. I could use tennis ball but eventually id know id want to use something else.

A plain sling in the hands of a trained pitcher can achieve similar power to a staff sling. Having footwork like that of pitchers also helps.

What do you think of slings like the cree rock stick? Instead of two hands its a one handed stick sling.

@@davidmorningstar Is there any advantages to a one handed rock sling? I’ve heard its easier to learn and be accurate with than a normal sling and less cumbersome as a staff sling. I’ve personally never tried one so I don’t know.

The hand sling is super portable, I have EDC a sling for about 15 years. The staff sling is very easy to use and much more accurate by comparison, but it is slower to use and obviously not pocketable.

The hand sling in the distance has a tapered release cord that works like a cracker on a whip. Not all slings are made like this but it is common for Balearic slings

The crack comes from the guy in the distance. The release cord of his sling cracks like a whip when he sends a tennis ball back this way.

This is at a festival called Swordpunk, I was teaching staff sling and my friend in the distance (Archaic Arms) was returning the tennis balls with his Balearic sling.

@@coalstar9030The guy in the distance is using a sling (imagine taking the cord from the staff, making it longer, and securing it to your hand). I've only been practicing a few months, but I can reliably sling a tennis ball the length of a soccer field.

He was returning tennis balls from about fifty metres away. Not only was the crack echoing off the background, the balls were hissing as they went past us. All the learners were like 😯
