This is my design and plans for stacking storage boxes.
Features:
1. The boxes stack vertically with an interlocking system.
2. They are designed to be as light as possible yet strong
3. Each box has a fold up lid and a fold down door
4. The door is full width and full height. It gives full access to contents without unstacking boxes above.
5. The boxes are a useful sizes: 28 inches wide, 13 1/2" deep, 13" or 15" high.
6. Boxes have a hand grip on each side
7. Low cost materials and hardware are used.

For those who haven't through of it, you can make an additional floor, with just the alignment block at each end, and put casters under it, so you can move whole stacks of boxes. Particularly helpful for bringing the season decorations in from the garage all at once, or taking inventory to sell at shows.

Great job Carl. I love these boxes. I think when I have the time to build these I'll add some biscuits when gluing up the sides for added strength. I'd be afraid if one of the boxes fell or was dropped the glued up sides may fail. The added strength from the biscuits would increase the strength and durability. Keep up the great work!

hi Carl, I have a similar design of stacking the boxes. however I use mine for tools, and some boxes have drawers instead of doors. you should consider making a base plate with castors to make moving the storage boxes that much more easy. great design, the chalk board paint in a very neat idea

Hello Mr Holmgren. Hope you are well. Time for me to finally start building your storage boxes. The plans are easy to follow. Thank you for your thoroughness. I am well past the time for my making these. One thing I’ve discovered is I am having a dickens of a time in breaking down plywood. I’m just not a fan of singlehanded pushing full sheets of plywood through a 1963 Craftsman table saw. I find my circular wandering when using a straight edge guide. I would be interested as to you thoughts on any other options. Track saws seem to be a very expensive option. I will check your video again to see if I’ve forgotten anything. Stay safe.

This is fantastic. Do you think drawers would work instead of the drop down hatch? Or would the weight coming out be too much for the tower?

Woohoo! Been waiting for these, they look awesome. Off to buy the plans now, and a dado blade and some more clamps. Guess this is gonna cost me more than $100 ;) Have you done any weight testing, how heavy can I go (say if they're filled with books)?

+Pete G I have bins filled with coffee table books, LP records, magazines and they hold up well. Use a good hardwood (e,g, Maple) for the 3/4 X 3/4" reinforcing strip under the front edge of the floor. The back panel supports the back edge of the floor. If you anticipate moving them any distance, I would suggest 1/4" plywood for the back panel instead of 1/8". The back panel keeps the ends from racking. ///Carl c

Good work sir and congratulations, but I think you could review think private video thing, I don't know if it's just for this project or if you keep this as rule, but the most successful woodtubers always show the entire process and profit from views and merchandise. The problem is, after a while the people stop watching, because they know the video is just a teaser for what they really want to see.

+Fabio BR Thank you for you insightful comment. I tend to agree with you on releasing a complete video instead of selling access to a private video with plans but I yielded to suggestions from friends, family and IT partner who thought I wouldn't sell any plans if I showed too much on the videos. I'll surely take you suggestion under consideration in the future. Now I have at least one vote on my side.... ////Carl

+Carl Holmgren I will by the plans just cause I have watched you in videos for a while and it almost feels like stealing for the number of ideas you give freely and explain so well. I think this public video has already given me and many of us DIY types, enough info to make these. My suggestion would be for you to sell a reduced price plan package, e.g. $24.00 for a three plan set or something like that. I also suggest you add a general mobile tool base plan with the details of the best of your designs of them, mine isn't exactly like any of yours, but my mobile 200+lbs TS/Router table came together after watching one of your earlier videos, Thx
