If stacking in the trailer is more efficient depends on other factors too. How long is a round trip delivery, and how much wood does the client order. Do you have the wood stacked before loading in a way that you can tell the amount of wood or do you need to measure the wood in the trailer. Adding side boards to the trailer might increase your trailer volume to throw these calculations of depending on the ordered amount. With high sideboards I think 1 1/3 cord loose is possible, stacked will then get you between 1 2/3 and 2 cords. Take into account the carrying capacity of the trailer and the towing capacity of your truck. In the end, if your sales volume and number of clients increases it will become second nature to optimize your deliveries.

Yes indeed! I have all my wood that I sell in 4x4x8 cord racks! So I know exactly how much wood I sell to clients! I think 1 cord a delivery is fine for me since I am not going farther than 20 min one way! Thanks for the feedback!

That's pretty much the same results "In The Woodyard" gets. A full trailer, loosely thrown in is a full cord. If he needs to put more in, say the customers bought 4 face cords, he' has to stack it to fit it. Doing it from measured piles is easy. It's when you're pulling from non measured bulk stacks that experience comes into play. He's thrown so many trailer and pickup loads on, and measured both and done the math, that he can get away with just chucking it on and eyeballing it. For a big delivery, like yours I agree- the extra work just isn't worth it. You still have to make 3 trips... I also like how you include the limbwood in your stacks. Too many don't bother with it, and only want the big wood. I hate to see so much of that go to waste- it's good stuff: dense, burns long- and you don't have to split it!
@HomesteadJay
Жыл бұрын
Hey Pyro! Yes Chris has a special eye for firewood indeed! Thanks for the comment! I love the limb wood in my outdoor wood boiler and I think to NOT include it in my normal firewood sales is a rip off since like you said they are good overnight logs which are denser than equivelant size split wood! I have 1 cord of premium wood left over for next years sales which has 2/3 of it just small limb wood! Theres a LOT of heat in the limb wood! Thanks for tuning in!

Stacked, firewood measures at 128 cu/ft (4'x4'x8') 12"-16" long, split, loose stacked firewood measures 180 cu/ft. You can test it yourself a thousand times over, thats how it measures out. The state of Maine recognizes "loose" firewood to measure out at 180 cu/ft.

"Before" you sell it (firewood), the seller has to stack it in order to measure the volume of wood. And then if the buyer thinks he got short changed, then he can stack it to measure it incase he thinks he got shortchanged. Once its measured 1 time by the seller, he can just throw it on the truck or trailer. It should always be measured each time by the seller.
@jessiehodges1513
Жыл бұрын
Actually that’s false. In Maine you don’t need to stack at all. By law a loose thrown full cord will take 180cuFt for 16inch pieces. I have a 7x14 with 4ft tall sides and a 4ft tailgate. I can loosely fit 6 face cords or 2 full cords in it and never get calls on customers being short.

@@jessiehodges1513[" Correction" on this Post ]. "I'm a Mo. Boy, The" Show" me State. When I used to sell some once in awhile you get what I call a good cord. That means you have at least a "full " cord and maybe a little extra!! The old timer's in the stix even out did that with the (3) rows of 16" × 8' long 4' Which is as good as I've seen. A full cord is a 128 cubic ft. Solid. So when you have a pile of loose thrown on, it always looks like more. That's why you have to stack it out, in order to Measure it!!! There is no other way to measure it. And you have to measure it Accurately!!!! The old timer's I'm referring to only cut Oak, and maybe some hickory that's it. Everyone that lives around these parts all demand Oak, if they know their wood. Also when you stack it up there shouldn't be a bunch of air holes in the stack. You only have to measure it once!!!!! How you deliver it is not relevant. when you throw on the little extra, it helps make up for all those air holes in the stack. Alot of people get offended when Someone points out the fact that they are trying to short change the customer. Like criss cross stacking it loosely, that's a giant rip off!!! The majority of people, Don't know what a full cord looks like!!! "This" (6) rows 16" × 8' long stack and 4' tall square Was a ( 2)Cord order I had forgotten what the Old man Said !!! They had (2) Big Stacks of Firewood !!! Each Stack was 2 Cords!!! I always made mine 1 Cord only !!!! They had 2 large stacks ready to go , For a (4 ) Cord Order!!! I was thinking 2 stacks, 2 cords!!!! That's why I forgot!!!! 3 rows of 16" is 48" that's your 4' width !!!! Also, I only made a few short statements not everything!!!! Those "few" short statement's surely dont constitute everything do they ????? If you believe that you are very limited in your Knowledge!!!!
