Staccato C DUO Part 2 - with Sig ROMEOZero

We put 600 rounds through the Staccato C DUO with the Sig ROMEOZero 3MOA red dot sight. We look at function and accuracy. Were there any issues? Maybe. But probably not what you might think.

    Great vid sir. I'm a new owner of both a Staccato C2 and XC. For the C2 in this video with the RomeoZero, is it a must to use a mounting plate? I also ordered a Holosun HS507C for another pistol I own and will see if this one also fits and which I like better.

  • @RidersRange

    @RidersRange

    Жыл бұрын

    That video is on the single stack C, not the C2. (Staccato recently discontinued the single stack C model.) Since that video I replaced the ROMEOZero with a Swampfox Sentinel, which fits the same mounting plate. For the C2, you need a mounting plate for any optic other than the Leupold DeltaPoint Pro, which direct mounts with a $50 kit from Dawson Precision. All other optics require a mounting plate ($160) that is specific for the optic. And the C2 comes with either a full-size front sight, or a compact front sight, which may influence your choice of optic. I hope that helps.

    Jimmy, more than 2,000 rounds of a variety of ammo through my original Staccato C without any issues, and the only issue I had with the DUO in more than 600 rounds was with that one particular round. So, they have been as reliable as any Glock, S&W M&P or Springfield I’ve ever had. But I can’t say that for most of the 1911s I’ve owned.

    I like it! Great shooting from 50 yards, 6" moving plates! That's setup exudes confidence in you. I'm jealous. One question--do those iron sights work if the red dot goes down? They do not look like suppressor height sights.

  • @RidersRange

    @RidersRange

    4 жыл бұрын

    Steve, it just dawned on me that I didn't show the shots with the optic turned off. The DUO mounting plate has a built-in rear sight that is the same height as the rear sight on the factory DUO cover plate and it provides almost perfect co-witness with the dot - and works just fine when the optic is off - and doesn't need a suppressor-height front sight. The rear sight on the mounting plate is also drift-adjustable for windage. Thanks for bringing that up.

    Steve, the Sig ROMEOZero, Shield RMSc and Holosun HS507K come with a sight notch as part of the sight frame. When mounted on a pistol that was milled for the sight, that notch does a pretty good job of aligning with the factory front sight. I’ve shot my P365XL with Holosun HS507K with the optic turned off using just the iron sights (factory front and Holosun rear notch) and it is certainly accurate enough for defensive work. I’ve done the same with a borrowed Hellcat and Shield RMSc. More manufacturers are coming around to the micro red dots for daily carry.

    What the hell is hang fire

  • @RidersRange

    @RidersRange

    Жыл бұрын

    A hang fire is a delay between the firing pin or striker hitting the primer and the powder igniting. It is extremely rare in small arms, ore common in artillery. The hang fires I have experienced in one lot of 147gr Federal have been a small fraction of a second. Not particularly dangerous, but definitely noticeable.

    Scott, another viewer asked pretty much the same question in an email. I won't go into the long answer I gave him, but suffice to say, if I wasn't a die-hard 1911 guy, I'd be carrying the 365XL. Actually, I am carrying it as I type this, because I just got a new sight for the Staccato and haven't yet put it through my testing. There are advantages to each, but unless you are devoted to the 1911 platform, I believe the 365XL has the advantage.

  • @RidersRange

    Rick, they weren't tumbling. The 9mm holes are normal size compared to the black 1" center and the yellow 3" circle. However, on the final target (about 7 minutes into the video) the cardboard backer was pretty well shot up so the bullets tore the paper, rather than poke clean holes.

    Kimberyote3, the best gun is the one you have on you at the moment you need it. When officers expect to use a gun, a carbine or shotgun is usually the firearm of choice. However, most violent encounters develop suddenly from what starts out as a non-violent encounter. Officers can’t walk up to a car on a traffic stop carrying a shotgun, or go into a home to answer a complaint of a domestic dispute carrying an M4. That wouldn’t go over well anywhere. So, in most situations, a handgun is all that is available when trouble starts. When I rode a motorcycle for the Sheriff’s Department, there was no secure place to carry a shotgun or carbine, so all I had was my handgun (actually, two - sidearm and pocket gun). And even when I was in a car in the off-season, it wasn’t practical to get out of the car carrying a shotgun on anything except known violent situations. I hope that provides some clarification. Thanks for the thought-provoking question.

  • @RidersRange

    Kimberyote3, I rode from 1978 until I retired (the first time) in 1992. Then when I was Chief, I leased a couple starting in 2004, and rode one for a summer, but didn’t get out enough to justify keeping it for myself, so I passed it on to a patrol officer who put it to good use.

    Wheeled and Well Armed, a hollow-point bullet is basically a flat nose bullet, but with a cavity. Many hollow-points are now somewhat rounded, but some are like the original Super-Vel that are just a tapered flat point with a cavity. As to feeding, the S&W Model 52 was made to feed the .38 Special 148gr flush wadcutter. Colt also made their National Match to feed the same round, and their .45 target pistols did great with 185gr SWC. I’ve even seen some guns that would feed an empty case, but that’s a rare extreme. The Staccato ran everything except that one specific type, but now I’m going to have to test it with Blazer 147gr flat point. You got my curiosity up. The gun (unloaded at the time) was pointed over the crook in my left arm, not muzzling any part of me. But if I missed somewhere else in the video, please let me know.
