Stabilizing Wood With DIY Vacuum Pump
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Wood stabilizing is the process of injecting resin in wood by evacuating all the air present inside the wood via vacuum. Doing this create a stable and hard wood that is not affected by moisture.
Vacuum chamber built in this video:
• DIY Vacuum Pump And Ch...
And pid oven built in this other video:
• DIY Heat Treatment Oven
I bought the stabilizing resin here:
Cactus Juice: goo.gl/6M2odZ
100Term: goo.gl/2VirBw
I don't have any affiliation with brisa.fi but they offer a nice and fast service. Highly suggested for Europe supply!
Index of operation and materials:
0:20 Wood weigh before stabiliziation
0:35 Checking moisture content, needs to be as close to 0% as possible
1:05 Drying wood with pid controlled oven. 12 hours at 105°C (221°F)
1:50 Taking wood out of the oven before it cools down and placing it inside a sealed container so it does not absorb moisture
2:04 Leave wood to cool for couple hours, now moisture is very low.
2:31 Weighting down wood pieces with steel so they don't float in the stabilizing resin
2:40 Completely covering in stabilizing resin
3:08 Slowly raising vacuum to prevent excessive bubbling
3:47 Taking to maximum vaccum and holding it for 4 hours or untill bubble stop rising
4:14 Slowly releasing vacuum. Wood needs to be left soaking inside the stabilizing resin after releasing vacuum. (I left overnight 12 hours)
4:32 Packing each piece individually in aluminum foil
5:07 Lefover resin can be collected and used over and over
5:22 Curing resin (stabilizing resin activates with heat) 2 hours at 95°C (203°F)
6:27 Scraping excess resin
Thanks a lot for watching, I hope you liked the video!

It’s real: you’re now a patron of Black Beard Projects! Although I am in China, I still hope to see you. Lovely job! Surprised me... l LOVE your all videos.
I have no idea what you've done but I'm always being amazed of your work 👍
I've never knew that the stabilizing of wood was a thing. I ended up here from watching your video of you making the vacuum pump from a refrigerator compressor. Its great to see people's ingenuity at work. Keep up the good work!
Awesome video. I learned a lot from this one. Especially the mistakes I would have made with my vacuum pump using solvent-based wood stabilizers. I would never had seen that one coming. Thanks for the tip on using cactus juice. It looks very simple and I noticed you were able to reclaim unused product which is awesome! Keep the videos coming we love them!
Info about vacuum machine like a gold! Watched like episode 2.
Cactus juice sounds surprisingly delicious
This video is exactly what I just needed, thank you so much. Cheers man.
You do make some of the most intricate videos i have ever watched. Keep doing you. Love the vids. You inspired me to try a few.... Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much for these videos. Especially the tips at the end. You saved us from making those mistakes.
Thanks for this nice short video. This will help me on my first attemp at stabalizing.
It's cool to see how other people do this, great video man!
I'm watching you from Turkey. And I love you
I started watching this earlier. Some great tips towards the end. Also I was surprised that the wenge actually took in more resin. I wouldn’t have thought that would be the case.

Right! I was very surprised too. Maybe beech needed a longer soaking time? I've read some that leave blanks to soak even a full week. I guess it depends on the wood.
Great tips, awsome video! Thank you, came in handy as for the plastic cracking upon the vacuum process.
Those are going to be beautiful knife scales.
Spectacular!! But the cactus juice is so much expensive... i utilized paraloid on aceton... but with the cactus resin the risultate is incredibile!!!! Good job black!!!!🔥🔥🔥👍👍👍👍👍
Never heard of wenge wood it’s beautiful
Amazing video. God bless you and your ovens.
would love to see a overall comparison of vacuum stabilizing soft woods and spalts. maybe set up a janka bench to see if it increases hardness and comparative stability of the woods?
That was really cool!
Thank you for your video. Your job is awesome.
Wood handled with love !
Awesome, thanks for sharing.
Awesome, thanks for sharing
Amazing video and detailed explanation
Great work thanks for sharing
Great video. I thought this would happen. I mentioned this in your last video. Again good video
It would be cool to see a video where you compare 2 identical pieces of wood, one stabilized other one just normal. Then strength test them and test in water to see which one is best👍
i have watche the full video, very cool
If you add a Tee and a valve, you can relieve vacuum on the pump, in case you have to start it, it won't have to start under load. It was hot as hell this summer and the air couldn't keep up. As such, stabilizing wasn't an option using Cactus Juice or the equivalent, because it starts to cure in hot weather. As an experiment, I used specialty hardening oil finishes. Specifically, Daly's Profin and Seafin. My results were great, though not quite the same as you'd get with the juice. Some items doubled in weight and even thin end grain items because usable for things like knife scales. Simply sanding a cured item and buffing it produced results that would pass for a finished item. However, I only did that to see what the end product looked like.
Enjoyed and thumbs up as well
Pas mal la démonstration.. Efficacité.
Beautiful...
Thank you 👍👍👍👍
Как всегда класс!!! SUPER!!!
um salve do Brasil + like. quantos processos pra ter madeira de qualidade. vídeo de qualidade. parabéns.
Te recomiendo hacer vacío primero y después incorporar el estabilizador manteniendo el vacío, se incorpora más cantidad. Saludos
BRAVO ! interessante come tuo solito
Great lesson those are the kind of tiny errors we make no better way to learn and never for get . Happy Trails
Here's a question if I wanted to dry a large amount of firewood would using either a vacuum or a pressure vessel work for this application. Its more theoretical problem thats now bugging me
THANKS
What is the name of the gasket material used to make your seal? Great video!
Amazing
Nice!!
This is great! Any idea how far the resin penetrated into the wood?
what is the difference between cactus juice and ordinary resin ,, I am interested and want to learn about stabwood
Great video, can you please post a link for 100term stabilizer, could not find it by searching for it on the net... appreciate your help
Great stuff, we recently threw out an old vending machine at work, I managed to salvage one of these compressors and am in the process of building a similar contraption. Thanks for the inspiration. Also are you north or south Italy, I have family in Torino.
Wenge is similar to Indian rosewood, in that it is hard as hell, but has open grain, which is why it took on more weight. Theoretically, if this treatment was done on softwood such as pine, it would end up as strong as hardwood(?)
Intresting work, can you tell which material you used to cover the pan and its thickness ?
cool man ;) but i think you should do some solid restoration.
Nice
Excuse the ignorance, but what is wood stabilization for? What do you do with stabilized wood? I was watching a video of how to make a vacuum pump, and I came here by chance.
Mi complimento con te per la tua iniziativa, molto competente. Dove posso trovare questi prodotti in Italia? Io vivo in Italia e sono un appassionato come te di coltelleria e auto costruzione di manufatti in legno e acciaio... Grazie mille per l'aiuto.
nice
I feel like you could tackle any subject
You can stabilize antique gun stocks using this method.
Sdds de quando fazia facas
Ma non converrebbe sostituire il plexiglass con del vetro?
How long from 0 to -1.0 bar? Thanks
When you close inlet valve do you turn off pump?
Can I Ask : What did the new plexi lid cost you ?
Good
Thanks for sharing info on solvent based stabilizers! Good to know. Excellent video as always!
Cumstain wood is the best wood.
Cactus juice is two part resin. Do you mix it?
Can anyone tell me if the HF vac pump is sufficient and or good for 10 quart pot for stabilizing, I under stand it has a vacuum pull of 22 microns ????
Great :D
Obejrzałem do końca, ale pojęcia nie mam po co to wszystko? Po co konserwowac 4 kawalki drewna?
👏👏👏👏
Does it fit with normal epoxy
hi, can you remember where you got the new seal from? thanks.... subbed
to bad you didn't marinate a ribeye this way...
I find this process to be quite similar to resin-infusing composite panels and carbon fiber. Wood really is the original composite material.
You should edit music under these videos. Btw i like them
Do you know of a way to stabalize with a dye pr pigment that looks like (shiney) gold or silver or chrome?
Interessante, I am brazilian end like yours vídeo transk;)
Dude, that's a four piece wood process! That I wouldn't give a shit about it! ...
Just wondering, does the Owl have a name?
Was this a 'test run' or do you have plans for the wood you stabilised?

I'll see if I can use some of that wood as knife scales. Started with something common expecting some failure.
Is this same as vacuum oven and how much $$ to build one?
Great video..... I saw your video of making the chamber. but now you used the yellow rubber band. What is it? And thanks to put the link in the discription for buying catus juice in europe!!!!!
@BlackBeardProjects

Thanks! The yellow rubber is a silicon tubing I found on amazon.
So if you will do it with in the factory and build a house out of this wood, there will be no need to look after it as it will not decay or what ever? Right?
good! what kind of resin is that ? is it really made from cactus? isnt it solvent based ?
@BlackBeardProjects

I doubt is made from cactus. But yes, not solvent based! Link in description
I thought that scale at the beginning was a Motorola Razr and got excited.
Perché non provi a mettere il legno nella vernice per il legno e vedere quanto penetra dentro
This is the type of vacuum to clean your phone
Hmmm like ;)
Excellent work!!!!!! Did you make the vacum Pump? I'm from Athens Greece. My name is Panos
👍👍👍👍👍
Will this pump make my wood bigger? It looks like it might fit
Is this home P/T?
👍
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Pome un corazón ❤ me gustan tus videos
8:31 holyshit... because of that liquid
hello very good video big like bye tcharly dessine see you later
👍👊
I know this would help warping, but you should try a strength test with longer pieces! :D
& here I am now. Watching exactly what I typed in the last video.
