This just feels too serendipitous not to comment. This video is now 16 years old, the same age Jackson Browne was when he wrote it. It's also how old I was when this video was uploaded. The song is still as chilling as the first time I heard it.

Love St. V! First time I heard her was a live performance in '07. She was alone and carrying her own equipment to a SXSW show. She was perfect.

She doesn't look bored she looks tired. That type of exhaustion that can only come from thinking of someone so many times that you can longer show hurt or regret in your face.
Brilliant. Annie captures the melancholy voice of Nico's beautiful original version, yet adds her own touch, and fine guitar work. A fantastic cover!

+Avital van Leeuwen Browne wrote the song, but the Nico version predates Browne's by six years. He also played guitar on the Nico version.

Actually I know Jackson Browne's version and Nico's version and so I feel entitled to comment on how great this version is.

That was amazing. That brought be back to the first time I heard These Days in its entirety. There a room in my heart with a door I haven’t opened in a long time. Hearing this twisted the handle and all of these beautiful feelings spilled out. I hope I remember them.

A youtube comment can be like sharing your story or message with the abstract idea of the world. It can be pretty beautiful. People just naturally love to express. We'll never know 100% what was felt behind the screen, but that's no reason to be immediately skeptical.

You can tell they’re feeling so emotions as she sings, you can see it in their eyes. It was inspired.
So, it’s 2022 now and I’ve been a shamelessly devoted fan since I first saw this video, probably soon after it was first posted. I still like most of her stuff, but Marry Me is still my favorite of her albums for some reason.

Annie is one of those great performers who can cover other people's music and make you fully believe in the story that they are telling you, convincing you that the words that they sing are, in fact...their own words. That's what this rendition did for me when I first heard it 16 years ago and it's the way I still feel today. As beautiful and stylish as Nico's version was, I never honestly thought that it was her experience she was relating to us.

+Deborah Douglas was gonna write the same, but this is clearly a cover of nico's version. her phrasing is not a saint vincent interpretation of the original, it's clearly based on the cover.

More folks know Greg Allman's and Nico's version. However, it is, was and always would be a Jackson Browne song for me. David Lindley's fantastic pedal guitar work on Browne's song just weeps and conveys a sense of ultimate sadness like few other expressions can. Much like Annie's eyes do here. Amazing, just amazing, perhaps now it will be a St Vincent song for me.

Although Jackson's version is superb, my favourite covers of These Days are by Iain Mathews kzread.info/dash/bejne/Y6d9zLiRpdvUqbg.html and more recently by Kristina Train kzread.info/dash/bejne/q6V2pamxXbexiLw.html. In my humble opinion the other covers pale in comparison.
I come back to this video once in a while and it just makes me forget about how shitty the world is.

whats funny is how much she hated this era of her. she said this was her fake version. her "trying to please everyone but herself" version. If you like her like this, she hated being that person for you. She loves her current version. Her costume version. Her many characters version.

If you don´t like this cover singer, yes, you can say your opinion but other people can have different opinion, so accept it and donť make them bad mood from your bad and hateful notes. I see it under every sing from St. Vincent, nobody is curios on you. WHY do you listen her when you think she is horrible? Although in my view the best cover of this song is Elliot's Smith, this version is so beautiful, it has really touched my hear, great talent.

Her voice is so pure and unique sounding, I love it. And this version of the song is played so well (better live, than recorded)!
