His personality was just as sparkling and sweet as the music you’re hearing. My college’s strings department got to meet him in ‘83. Just shaking his hand you could feel so much life and spirit. I brought him a bottle of whiskey I was too young to buy. :) Now I’m 60 and ugly-crying while listening to SG
As a born and bred classical musician, I recently got into jazz music. I didnt know if jazz violin was really something that existed, as the jazz greats dont typically incorporate them. This guy is totally opening up my world right now

Well, I'd say you've found the best of them as far as I can tell. Django's guitar playing got so much attention (deservedly so) that I think the great Stephane Grappelli was a bit overshadowed. If you haven't already, you should check out Jean Luc Ponty too. He's a fusion jazz player, so it's a totally different style ( but it does have humanity and soul & has been celebrated for generations, so I hope Tejas approves! Also, the Dixie Dregs had several amazing violinists through the years. Enjoy, Cheers! kzread.info/dash/bejne/iH2tw7GeadjbpsY.html kzread.info/dash/bejne/m6eB2bOym8TNZcY.html

Hermes
Before I ever heard of or listened to this, I saw him in the Keswick Theatre in PA, he rolled out in a wheelchair by himself, and I thought, I shouldn't have bought the tickets? The best violinist I ever heard.

I live right down the street from the Keswick theater! Can't believe I missed him :(
Some time, in the mid 60s, I was doing my homework, with my back to the tele... It was the Miss World competition... As a 9 or 10 year old, I had little interest in Miss world... Between costume changes Yehudi Menuhin and Stéphane Grappelli played violin jazz... I was hooked... even after I became interested in women...
Mr Grapelli my family and I adored you, you were not only a great artist but a wonderful man! May you rest in the stardust forever xxxx
In Chicago for a meeting of ABA Young Lawyers in the late 1970's and saw an advertisement for a concert featuring Stephane Grappelli - and went to experience his genius for the evening. It is still a magical memory.
I brought my 7 yr old daughter to a Grapelli concert at Massy hall in Toronto and after 10 mnutes she said Papa C,est la première fois que j'entends quelqu'un faire pleurer un violon .1st time I've heard someone make a violin cry..gratias,obrigado, asante merci

The Nearness of You and Tournesol are just incredibly touching. I met him in person when he was 83, and heard him live in Europe. It was just one of my best memories in a concert hall.

ITS for slowly 😪
His improvisations are inventive without losing all sense of the original melody, unlike so many Jazz players.
I went to see Stephane Grappelli at Melbourne Town Hall when I was living in Australia in the early 1970's and he was incredible and also thrilled the audience with his piano playing. A remarkable gentleman.
Music from the heart of a great man.
His clarity and tone and depth of feeling is beautifully played on his violin ❤
This is the TRUE HEALING SOUND My soul feels a great relaxing sensation of being witnessing such a wonderful sound. Im in love with Violin . This is awesome .... Gratitude for being able to hear this
Something about rainy days and Stephane is just pure bliss
Way back when I was in the AFM in Albany NY, at the Christmas party they brought Grappelli up to play wandering violin during dinner.....an incredible experience I'll never forget.
Sublime Stephane.❤
This is a particularly intimate rendition of Stardust, technically magnificent and spectacularly Grappelli! Notice there are no dislikes; afterall, who would not like this work?
@BrianPatrickCallahan

I noticed that too, no dislikes. We were lucky enough to see him play with an ensemble, it was great. He is great.
When I saw Stephan play in London, he was quite old. I called him the best musician I had heard for the fact he made the violin disappear, and his thoughts were entering my head by some other direct route if that makes sense.
Grappelli, a genius. Ad lib ear playing and weaning them classical turbos off their sheet music should be made mandatory all over the world's conservatories
what can you say to this beauty in Music …………………………………..
So totally beautiful!!
I love the fact he shows how many takes it took to get that..
Grappelli among the best ever!
One of My Favorite Players
I saw him every time he came to Minneapolis for over 30 years. Magnificent man
Really, this music come up just from the deep of heart of musician ....!
It makes me cry to think he named it stardust. Means a lot! Best violin player in the world i say

This is with just Alan Clare on piano - I say "just" but of course, apart from the album being a duet recital, I mean to say that Alan Clare was a deeply beautiful pianist in every regard with a sensibility that was valued profoundly by anyone lucky enough to have known of him. A very, very, very special man and musician who is regarded as a legend among musicians. I would say "The Jimmy Rowles of England".
Bella interpretación.
UNA PERSONALIDAD, ETERNA ,TODO UNA BELLEZA .-.-.-
good for the soul
Alot is made amongst guitarists of Django's guitar playing, but I honestly believe that what made Django so great as a guitarist is that he was just humbly trying to mimic with the guitar what Grappelli was doing with the fiddle.

I’ve been playing the violin/fiddle for 46 years and I attribute my love for it from Stephane. I’ve played in symphonies, fusion groups, but couldn’t read music for years. Day one, I picked up my violin and put on a Stephane album of my mom’s and fell in love with this sound…with Grapelli’s stylish and musical taste. I was hooked…wow how this music brings back memories.
