It saddens me deeply to know that Patriarch Theodoros has gone into communion with schismatics. I had always admired him sincerely and I still struggle to understand his sudden move towards communion with the newly established Ukrainian ecclesiastical structure, which contradicts his every previous step.

No man is free from error, even though I myself cannot clearly see, at least now that the events are so recent, what exactly is happening and who is on the right side and who is not. It also saddens me because the church seems do get divided in three parts. Those who support, those who oppose, and those who wait. Let us pray for them (the patriarchs and the divided), so that the Holy Spirit illuminates all, as only He can get us out of it.

It's a psalm that it's said at holy Friday before the Epitaphy enters the church and some times after the Resurrection, before the priest enters the church. Its meaning is that Christ, the King of Glory, is "entering" Hades and beats him.

Dear @Gokma Haloho, Who said that Jesus is Greek or Roman? Jesus is Jewish indeed and he created the Church. That Church is the Orthodox Church, because when the two Churches were united- there wasn't the Catholic Church at all- the Fisrt Council of Nicaea in 325 created The Symbol of Belief -it's the original text that says that you believe in Jesus Christ-. But in 1054, asuccession of ecclesiastical differences and theological disputes eg. filioque, but the biggest reason was political, had the result of the Schism. The Church that was in Rome disaggregated from the Original Church, and then the Roman Catholic Church was born. Because of that, nobody said said the Jesus is Greek or something. Jesus was born in Bethlehem and grew up in Nazareth, and the second coming will take place at Jerusalem. Best Regards

The icons you see are not idols. Making objects of veneration to help us in worshipping God is not prohibited. Was the ark of the covenant an idol? No. Were the golden cherubim in the temple of solomon idols? No. Was the bronze serpent an idol? No. The icons, which are depictions of holy people, (like the prophets) are not worshipped, are venerated. This was the case when the people of Israel bowed before king and God because the king was imaging God, so by prostrating themselves before the king they would give praise to God, the same way that one would venerate the statue of a ruler in ancient middle east. We do not worship the holy people, we honour them because they were servants of God, therefore we pledge ourselves to God through them, as you would pledge yourself to a king through one of his servants if you were not allowed on the throne room. Again, this is not prohibited. If you remember what God prohibited Moses to do, was to make an image of the invisible God (like was the golden calf for example), this is what an idol is. This is not the case for us because we do not depict the invisible God, for it is forbidden.

@@youngsamuel1 The word idol does not mean graven image or something made of matter. It litteraly means lookalike or reflection (I know greek and some measure of hebrew so that's how I know). When given in proper context (namely Exodus, the passages where Moses receives the ten commandments) an idol is any image or projection or reflection of this world we ascribe to God and worship in the place of God. That is why the gods of the gentiles are called idols, because they are placed in the place of God and worshipped instead of Him. This can also happen when we ascribe to God characteristics and attributes He does not posses and worship those instead of Him (e.g. the projection the the pharisse made in the gospel parable). This has nothing to do with how the faithfull practice their worship towards God. Now again, the passages from paul do not reflect the practices of worship, but the condition of the man when practicing. The whole "spirit and thruth" thing refers to the disposition, attitude and condition of a given man with respect towards to God, so that the Holy Spirit will act inside him making his body "a temple of the Lord". In no way do these things mean not using matter or the body in worshipp (why should it? neither is bad). Rather, using the body and the material world is not only encouraged (prayers, hymns, preaching) but also mandated (communion itself, ie the body and blood of Christ). Icons fit in this context because they both continue the tradition of the golden cherubim in the ark and the tablernacle and at the samy time underline the incarnation, because they show in very straightforward way that the intangible Logos is made tangible as a man, and as such can be depicted, touched, seen, heard, embraced, and kissed.

@@kostpap3554 this is Babylonian worship. A mixture. Christ does not come in the bread. His body was broken for us to become one in Him. The breaking of bread is a reminder He died to make us one, He communes in our hearts with one another.
