And while many BLACK Men in Ameica wanted to fight the fascists-only a very few like John Charles Robinson AKA the Brown Candor succeeded in accomplishing this feat. This denial was due to US government policy at that time. It was the same in the Caribbean, MANY Caribbean men amd women wanted to fight but the colonial government (Britian) at that time prohibited the men from joining the war. ... "At this rally a petition signed by no fewer than 1400 persons was drafted asking the British Government to allow Jamaicans to enlist in the Ethiopian army so as to FIGHT to preserve the glories of our ancient and beloved empire. This petion was sent to the Colonial Secretary through Governor Denham. However, the British Government did not acede to the suggestions of the Jamaican Garveyites, evidently seeing in their request the seeds of opposition to their own colonial rule ..." @ p.171 See e.g., Marcus Garvey: Anti-Colonial Champion by Prof. Rupert Lewis @ pp. 168-172, for detailed accounts of the widespread RESISTANCE against the fascists' invasion across the Caribbean, but more specifically Jamaica.
