ST IVES at SUPER HIGH TIDE with STORM surge
Many St Ives businesses were flooded this morning as the storm surge from Storm Pierrick met a spring tide of 7.1 metres.
Andrew was up early to capture imagery of the impact of these two events happening at the same time.

It’s good to see every single local out there. Genuinely those 10 people were probably it. All the second home owners were still in London

These images brought back some traumatic memories. I was once attacked while walking along that harbour front by a vicious gang of seagulls that stole my tray of chips. That was a sad day ☹

St Ives man ❤️❤️❤️ my wife may have my wallet but this place has my heart. So lucky to live 20 minutes away.
I’m from Cape Town…we visited St Ives and stayed upstairs above a seaside pub…the name escapes me. What a delightful town…we were enchanted…I could easily live there…if I could afford it, with my Rands and cents!!! The whole area is stunning

From Cape Town. I once visit this beautifull town. The Waterfront I found amazing. Some highligths as Tafelberg and the beautifull botanical garden. You have so much in your surroundings. St Ives I have bin to, but can not compare with Cape town.

Did you see the guy with wet feet? 😂 Sarah :)
It is amazing the way you have recorded the sound of each individual wave, pounding against the seawall and trickling back, without everything getting blatted out by the sound of wind hitting your microphone. I found the effect to be soothing, which is silly of me, considering how dangerous that situation could actually be.
Wow bloody hell. We live in rural wales. Tree down saturday sunday and another again this morning. My poor bird table is like a ikea flat pack. Lol. ❤

Wow!! Brilliant footage - you are really dedicated to bring us this interesting video - Another, this seems a silly statement, it seemed as though the elements was playing tricks on ‘Dear old St Ives’ it was such a gentle flooding - super to look at but lethal to businesses on the front. - I do wonder how much more rain and storms we are still to get before Winter is done with us here in Cornwall - I think this makes about 8 months of seeing rain at some point every day - 10/10 for bringing us another super video at this ungodly hour of before 6.00am this morning when most of us are tucked up in bed.
That's amazing footage Andrew. What a treat ~ thank you! I had no idea that the sea level ever reached those lower roadways/pedetrian routes at St Ives, but I now notice some of the shops have sliding storm/flood shutters protecting the lower part of their doors. I love the contrast of the powerful stormy sea with the brave little Turnstone in the foreground (at 3.52) that's busily darting & pecking around in the run-off water for any tiny morsels thrown up by the waves :)

Super high tides in St Ives happen regularly. We had been waiting for an excuse to film it and then the storm came as well! Makes you wonder if the businesses on the front even have insurance. Sarah :)
So sorry for the home and business owners on the front.
We're going to St Ives in just under a fortnight. Let's hope it's calmed down by then. So magnificent to watch though! Thanks for filming it xx

Hi Andrew and Sarah. I hope your feet didn't get to wet. Brilliant camera work of the waves during the storm.
Wow. You certainly captured the intensity of the high tide. We've seen it several times at Porthleven, but never St Ives like that.
Unbelievable the weather is having all across the country Thank you for taking time to record for us xx stay safe

1991 I lived with my gf right on the coast, just like that but the ocean was violent, 10 ft swells and growing quickly, waves crashing onto the roof with hightide hours away, ended up taking the house out to sea, only the foundation left next morning. Perfect storm 1991 Marshfield, Mass. 🇺🇸
Hi Sarah and Andrew, my wife and I use the Aspect Holiday lets web cams to keep an eye on Cornwall. Unfortunately their web cam for St Ives has been off for a few days so your footage was much appreciated. See you on Friday keep up the good work.

I didn’t realise I had missed this scary footage, same thing happened to us many years ago at ‘Appledore’ high tide trapped us in upstairs rooms for a while very frightening, I’m surprised they don’t have storm boards on their doors at least, being so close to the sea, thanks for covering these more frequent storms both of you, the sea is a most unpredictable beast, I know because I was rescued from drowning at Blackpool age fifteen, take care until next time 🤗
My heart and prayers goes out for all communities on the coast line areas. The birds, sea and land animals too.

Very dramatic. Thanks for being there to show us
Expected with an eclipse, planet alignment means strong gravitational pull, ergo high tides
Outstanding video!
Brave Andrew!! Great footage, which I enjoyed, though I hope the folks there don't suffer too much damage. This has been a year for crazy weather all around. California has had more rain than I can remember since the early 1980s. Storm surges paired with high tides here as well, leading to flooding all along our coastline, up into Oregon and Washington State. Yesterday the solar eclipse crossed the country from Texas to Maine; we saw about 70 percent coverage of the sun from here in So.Cal. I always feel such an affinity for your Cornish coast, though I do find myself expecting to see gents in long coats and tricorn hats from time to time, lol. Stay safe, and I hope your home is on higher ground. :)

How on earth do they keep the sea out of the lowers floors? very few sandbags I saw. Still a lovely village~
I went on holiday to St. Ives back in 2018. Lovely place but had to wait about half an hour for a parking space so unfortunately just had to stay within walking distance. Got bored after 3 days and came home early. The weather was nicer than this though. Edit: 5:42 that's the house I stayed in, with the back area.
Lived in st Ives as a child though house was up on a steep hill brings back memories hope all ok
Is the water at the top of the seawall or is than an illusion? I know the waves are going over, but is the level tide near the top of the seawall?

No ones doing the Lambeth walk then 😆 How did the gallery fair? It usually gets battered when high spring tide coincides with a storm! The winds last night were so loud in Falmouth I’m actually surprised that there aren’t more reports of damage apart from the cafe and beach huts at castle! Cornwall always gets it when the storms blow in from the sou’west.
I remember the old Roman saying ''cave in Marchia Sancti ives'', 'Beware St Ives in March''. but i can't see why? Such a lovely place, anytime of year, albeit,a bit risky in wild weather such as this

Just another Spring day in the UK.
How many fookin storms are we going to get? ..
This is what you get with a Spring tide with a NW storm.
If a storm is forecast, why don't the seafront businesses get their furniture or signage stacked away at least tied up where they don't get damaged. Ditto councils with the litter bins or skips.
Why are there no sandbags protecting something and no higher sea defences.
