I wonder if we underestimate just how psychologically unbearable life is for many today on account of how well off we are materially. I've spent most of my life not just alone but isolated. Gotta wonder how that sort of thing compares with the suffering of previous generations. And the temptations we face today are off the wall nuts. Internet porn alone, i.e., wet dreams on demand is pretty unbelievable when you look at it from a pre-modern perspective. And with AI, it's only getting more immersive and sophisticated. The Christians of old didnt have to deal with that sort of thing at all, much less on a daily basis. Only seems natural that we wouldn't be held to the same high standard. We're both weaker and constantly buffeted with temptation from every direction, and moreover, more and more of us are expected to face the world alone, or with far fewer friends and family and much weaker bonds than previous generations enjoyed. We're easily the most spiritually impoverished and afflicted generation to ever walk the earth (or drive around it in cars, anyway)

Well said. There are different trials today, even though life is good survival wise, we are spiritually deprived and sin is being encouraged.

"Where sin abounds grace abounds more" Romans 5:20-21 this can either tell us that there is more mercy due to their being more sin ; or that he gives us strength Because our strength is irrelevant; it is so weak that we naturally will sin as we are under the power of sin "I do not what I want to do, but the very thing I do not want to do; therefore it is no I who do it but the power of sin within me" We achieve more strength through grace Which we get by fellowship and communion As we stare at Christs face he changes us And if we don't pray for a while or read the word, we can begin to let sin take over. It's by total consistency but not monastically or legalistically It's about surrendering and letting God have Ur heart. From the heart the rest will be done and I Will love the things of God also. He doesn't always give the power straight away in our temporal sense but he also gives ways out. God always knew how bad the temptation would be in these days and how bad it will get, and therefore lays our path straight. However the more straightened the Lord makes our path, the more bent the enemy will make that sinful path. Therefore we must not entertain sin but also learn how the devil operates so we can begin to have better human discernment but we should rely on knowing God's Holy Spirit and knowing God who is personal. His grace is so much more than we can perceive.

I totally agree. But I would also add the other end of the spectrum, meaning that even a quiet, godly, relatively simple life demands and consumes so much of our time and energy (or maybe just our time alone) that we can't find a way to maintain, let alone increase, practices and prayer rules of more than just prayer and maybe scripture a couple times a day. There was an existential philosopher who said, "you can't become a saint when you work 16 hours a day". If you work a moderately tiring job, there's no way to sleep 3 hours a night in order to spend the other few hours praying and reading and not collapse eventually, ruin your health and/or lose your poorly performed job. And days off aren't much better. You need to catch up on all the things you haven't done all week. Food shopping, laundry, cooking, and chores, eat up your time significantly. And I'm a single person without many people in my life. I can't imagine taking care of children and/or maintaining a relationship while trying to pray more than on workdays. Also, I don't go to the gym, have any other extra curricular hobbies, or attend any special events, and I am dead tired. It's hard to resist a nap here and there. I think society is designed this way. To separate you from God and family and marry you to your job. Your rituals are all the chores and errands you need to do just to function. Add in what this clip is about and it's a miracle if you even make it to the dentist.

We have to do whatever we can, of course with the blessing of a spiritual father. No matter how busy our schedules are we can pray, but some are busier than others. No matter our state in life, we can always make excuses for ourselves at the prompting of the devil who always wants us to relax, cater to the flesh, not try too hard, treat ourselves, take it easy, etc. We only make progress by having a fighting spirit against laxity, always striving to love God more and pray more.

I think when God calls us to have a deeper relationship with Him, He will provide us with the grace necessary, no matter what our present circumstances are. Heeding His call might require giving up a lot of things that we’ve grown used to, lifestyles we’re comfortable in. It’s a terrible thing to find ourselves as the rich young man, doing everything else right but being unwilling to sell all we have and give the money to the poor, whatever that means for us in our lives, because our possessions are too great. The more pitiable if the things we refuse to give up aren’t even that great, but we cling to them as if they were one of our organs. I’m speaking here from present experience 😅 we might have to radically restructure our lives to answer the Lord’s call. That can be very painful. Agonizing even, to the point that our souls are sorrowful even unto death, enough to sweat blood. But we know that He endured it before us, so that when we’re faced with the cross we must bear, we know that we don’t bear it alone. It becomes a yoke that is easy, a burden that is light.

Reminds me of how things have changed in the LDS church from my youth to now. When I was young, we were asked to keep a years worth of food storage. My family was certainly amongst those who couldn't keep up. So the church leaders asked we do 6 months. Now it might be down to 3. Speaking of three, our services used to be, 3 hours. Now they're only 2... very peculiar indeed... Lord, have mercy on me a sinner.

We should have a spiritual father who has spiritual experience and who knows how to guide souls to salvation by applying the teachings of the saints to our particular circumstances. The best way to prepare for fatherhood is to live a holy life. All Christians are called to live ascetically, but exactly how much we eat and when may vary depending on our responsibilities. A man does not become a good father by weighing a certain amount or having a certain amount of muscles.

They are not confessors. They don't confess the true Christ, but rather some other christ (many non-Orthodox even believe the christ they worship will return to rule an earthly kingdom, whereas we know the only one who will rule a world kingdom will be the final ac, who will rule the whole world for the final 3.5 years of this world, of history & time, before the Lord returns in glory to judge the living and the dead & rule His Kingdom without end. They preach another gospel, another God. The Saint is saying the Christians of the end times (& I don't believe we are at the End of the end) will have faith in the true Christ, true doctrines (not heresies). Also he's not saying those final Christians will hold the belief that they will be saved by their faith in Christ alone, but that they will not be able to do much else other than hold their faith in Christ as the God-man in the face of terrible pressure (they, the remnant, will be few, they may be ragtag groups in the mountains, deserts, the holes of the earth. They may have nothing except what the Lord provides them for their survival, as prefigured in the OT by manna. They will have given up everything so as not to bow down to a false god (the final ac). They may not have the Holy Eucharist, they may not have icons & relics, all of which may disappear from the earth, when the final ac is crowned world king. But they will not have any strange god in them because they refused to turn away from the Truth, their Life & Lord. That is all they will need to do in those terrible times, the like of which the world will have never known nor will be again, to be greater than most Christians who went before them.

I love Jesus and I am chaste. But I feel like I am climbing up a mountain. But Isaiah 56 gives me hope. People will argue its not about me. But it is a passage for people "Othered" by the church.

Whatever happens, never abandon Christ. You are to love Him with all your heart, soul, strength and mind. Even if your family disowns you for professing your faith as an Orthodox Christian, when they realize that this is not just a passing fad of yours, you should not pick your family over God. If the ship is sinking, you need to abandon it, and if it's God's will to let the ship sink, if nothing seems to be working - let His will be done, accept whatever cleansing scrubbing God puts you through with humility. Saint Seraphim of Sarov said "acquire the spirit of humility, and thousands will be saved around you". Your guardian angel (both of them, if you're baptized as an Orthodox) will both pray to God for you, as long as you keep quiet and don't escalate whatever tensions you may have with your family and neighbours. Don't rely solely on your power to convince others of the truth of Orthodox Christianity, because only fervent prayer can really bring other people to God.

Colossians 1 About Jesus: For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: 17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. 19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell; 20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven. 1 John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not burdensome. Rev 22:14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. THE TEN COMMANDMENTS…. 1- THOU SHALT HAVE NO OTHER GODS BEFORE ME 2- THOU SHALT NOT MAKE UNTO THEE ANY GRAVEN IMAGE 3- THOU SHALT NOT TAKE THE NAME OF THY GOD IN VAIN 4- REMEMBER THE SABBATH DAY TO KEEP IT HOLY 5- HONOUR THY FATHER AND THY MOTHER 6- THOU SHALT NOT KILL 7- THOU SHALT NOT COMMIT ADULTERY 8- THOU SHALT NOT STEAL 9- THOU SHALT NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS AGAINST THY NEIGHBOURS 10- THOU SHALT NOT COVET Matthew 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. 18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Hebrews10:26-31- For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God!!.. These few verses unmask deception and reveal idolatry: The idols of the nations are silver and gold, the works of human hands. They have mouths, but do not speak; they have eyes, but do not see; they have ears, but do not hear, nor is there any breath in their mouths. Those who make them become like them. SO DO ALL WHO TRUST IN THEM. Psalm 135:15-18 Deuteronomy 4:16 that you do not act corruptly and make an idol for yourselves of any form or shape, whether in the likeness of a male or female, Jeremiah 7:18-19 KJV The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the ¨queen of heaven¨, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger. Do they provoke me to anger? saith the LORD: do they not provoke themselves to the confusion of their own faces? Mary and saint worship, Mary the mediatrix and queen of heaven? God cleary told us Jesus is the ONLY mediator between God and mankind. Whoever else you use as mediator or pray to is IDOLATRY. 1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus. Saints dont intermediate and dont listen to prayers, they are dead people like you and me, made of flesh and they died, Mary also is one of them, she was a normal woman who gave birth to Jesus and she and other people may not be worshipped. God declared the dead as the following: Ecclesiastes 9:5-6 For the living know they will die; but the dead do not know anything, nor have they any longer a reward, for their memory is forgotten. 6Indeed their love, their hate and their zeal have already perished, and they will no longer have a share in all that is done under the sun. If the dead are alive somewhere... then who are the ones Christ will resurrect at his arrival? *Second commandment (Ex 20:4): Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, ...* this includes rosary necklaces, Mary and saint statues, Jesus, Mary and saint images, crosses, 'holy relics' and many more items used in worship by most denominations. People bow down before these things, kiss them, pray with them and that is wrong. Christ is the mediator we pray towards, close the door and pray to him honestly without any items or images, he is the living God and does not share his glory with manmade things. It is time to return to the old Hebraic faith of Jesus (Yeshua) and do what he did (obey the Fathers commandments and laws). There was no Catholic church or hundreds of denominations each with their own views and opinions back in the days of Jesus and the prophets. Believers had the old testament back then, which is the foundation of all scripture and the key to understand the new testament. Most Cathechism practices like rosary prayers etc are just invented in the 16th century.. first pope existed in 538ad and not in the apostles their days. those things got nothing to do with Jesus, its the traditions and vanities of religious men who went far astray from the Fathers commands. Matt 7:22 Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ 23Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you workers of lawlessness!’… Berean Standard Bible Only those who obey Gods commandments will enter the kingdom, there is a large familiar group of people who think they please Jesus but obviously they will be rejected by Him because they denied the commandments. No, this has to do exclusively of the last days and times of martyrdom where a person may be saved for their confession of faith and martyrdom alone. Those who do not convert in such a context and who are not facing martyrdom must seek to be baptized in the Orthodox Church and follow the teachings of the Church for their salvation.

stop deviding the church. It was always faith alone. If you are in that faith, you will do the good works on your own. But not because you want them to do, but because it will be your new nature in Christ. It is called sanctification. That is why you will know them from their fruits. This i meant by working out your salvation in fear and trembeling. That is what it means to walk in the works created by our father before the world was. There is no glory for us in that path but for God alone. Many chuches (mainly catholic and orthodox) are mixing works and faith, which equals the "falling from grace" that Paul mentioned. The jews back in his time tried the same (well even today) This is not a critique to the believers in this churches, because they are not the catholic or orthodox church (which are just organisations), they belong to Christ. In fact, many protestant churches a lukewarm because they say you are saved by grace alone, but are not examine themselfs and don´t get that they have not saving faith but conviction of them selfs instead of the Holy Spirit. So basically, if you are trully saved and are sealed with the Holy Spitit, then you won´t mix works and faith anyway and the chruch you attend won´t matter, since we are the church and not some building or place or organisation. (and don´t get me wrong order is important, but many gathering are more than just then elders and believers)
