SSX 3 Review | GameCube Galaxy

Ойындар

In today's video, I review the follow up to SSX Tricky, SSX 3. This next installment looked to improve upon every aspect of its predecessor, while breaking new ground for the series. So, is SSX 3 a game that succeeds in elevating the franchise? Let's find out!
All footage captured in-house on original hardware, using an Elgato HD60 paired with an EON GCHD and mClassic adapter.

SSX 3 is one of my all-time favorite games. Truly ahead of it's time. The graphics, the open world, how the mountain feels alive with falling tress, avalanches and falling rocks, DJ Atomika giving the game a really nice immersive feeling with random facts about the mountain. Plus it even had a streamer mode before streaming existed with the ability to turn the music off and just listen to the ambient sounds of the mountain. SSX (2000) and Tricky were both phenomenal games that I still play to this day but SSX 3 will always be my go to out of the trilogy. There is so much replayabilty!

This game was so goddamn 𝗮𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗰. Even today it holds up in that department. Gameplay is also very fun. I wouldn't say the music beats out the Need For Speed or Tony Hawk series necessary in the genre; however, that being said the soundtrack for this game is a BOP

It really is a game that stood the test of time flawlessly! The Need for Speed and Tony Hawk games also had excellent soundtracks, but something about SSX 3’s soundtrack was perfection to me personally. I have some uber-thick nostalgia goggles when it comes to SSX Tricky, that being said, I don't see how anyone can play SSX3 and not *easily* conclude it is the superior experience. Honestly my only complaint with 3 is that some of those big challenges that you find when you're free riding a track are either too cryptic, or too needlessly difficult. I 100%'d this game, but only once, because I never again want to mess with those silly challenges.

SSX Tricky was the start of my love for SSX. I spent over 6 months strictly playing that game to 100% every character's career (trick books included), and just kept replaying the game over and over. But yes, SSX 3 truly improves upon everything Tricky did. Some of the BIG challenges were cryptic or overly challenging, but I still enjoyed this implementation. Thanks for checking out the review!

Nice, love this game to death. Ssx tricky was my first, but this was my first as a competent player. I remember especially loving dj atomika and how he tiedy character into the world. Obviously, like everyone, I loved the "open world" aspect as well. I thought it was nuts how it changed to night after I sent through a cave between snow jam and metro city

Always awesome to see another SSX 3 (and Tricky) fan! I also started with Tricky, and while I was good at it, SSX 3 is the one I feel I mastered best.DH Atomika really did add the to immersion and life of the mountain. The mountain itself is a character. The weather changes between tracks was awesome, and even as drastic as it was, it felt natural at the same time. Such a masterpiece of a game. They don’t make games like this anymore sadly. Thank you for checking out the review!

Love how they incorporated words like “Uber” haha Makes it feel like that early 2000 era I grew up in as a teen! This game holds up so well, that it easily puts to shame many of the games nowadays! The Superpipe events are my favorite, especially since I’m more a trick-style player. Haha yes, the “Uber” word was awesome (literally) and I still find myself using that word because of this and Tricky! The GBA feature was definitely a nice touch! I am playing this on my Series X. It looks crystal clear thanks to the game being uprendered to 4K on One X and Series X. 480p to HD and 4K was no joke. Plus true widescreen while I know both PS2 and GameCube has options for anamorphic widescreen or the type of widescreen with black bars on the top and bottom. Playing on a One/Series fills it to the whole screen. Plus I heard it fixes with frame drops and especially in Metro City which oddly enough is non-existent on GameCube, but appears on PS2 and oddly enough Xbox. Makes me think that the devs used GameCube as the SKU this time kinda like the Sonic games starting with Heroes and ending with Riders. I am loving the vibes with the soundtrack, character designs and everything else. Maybe that's because I was born during the 2000s and couldn't get into what the kids think are hip now like BTS, Among Us and Fortnite and really missed what music and design we got in early-mid 2000s. Heck, most things I am excited for in gaming are collections, remasters, remakes or games inspired by stuff in the 80s - 2000s or new games based on series I enjoy. I can't be the only one excited for DVDs, Blu-Rays and 4Ks that Gen Z would say "Why buy these when you can stream?" Well, only thing I watched in streaming is streaming exclusives or movies and shows I wondered are worth spending my money on. Back on track, what I'm saying is playing games like this makes me feel old-school and am proud. Of course I am still open-minded, but I felt like most games today seem to forget the fun that games like SSX 3 delivers. Either games today are just for show like "Let see how many stems of hair can we make?" or felt like copies of other games. Which is why I prefer Nintendo exclusives over Microsoft's and and Sony's although I love Spider-Man PS4, Jak & Daxter, Ape Escape, Sly Cooper and Ratchet & Clank to name a few. If they were to bring back arcadey-styled snowboard games then I think they should take inspiration from SSX 3. Heck, we all needed something different than yet another Battle Royal or Call of Duty wannabe. I wonder how long it took me to type this...

Nice! Yeah I played this one Xbox One S a few years ago to see how it ran on there, and was impressed with the resolution boost, but never realized that the Xbox version had weird areas of slowdown (especially the intro cutscene). Having played this on all platforms, I'd say the GameCube version felt the most optimized, and even had the fastest load times. The soundtrack, characters, and overall game design are masterclass to say the least. And you're not the only one excited for DVDs, Blu-Rays, and 4Ks, as I'm also an avid physical collector. Streaming is convenient, but physical media is always king and the best way to experience the medium. Games like SSX 3 remind us why gaming was significantly more impressive back then, as games were designed to maximize fun factor rather than today's current trends, which put gameplay in the backseat sadly. Not all the time of course, but more often than not, many games lack "soul" nowadays. Glad you're enjoying SSX 3, and thanks for checking out the review!

  • @megaheroes3611

Xbox One and especially Series really did iron out the slowdowns. Other good examples are Sonic Unleashed's Joyride Jungle, GTA IV (Though there's a bug in the final mission where you have to mash A to get up the helicopter. But rub the A button and it will work), Ninja Gaiden 2, Final Fantasy XV (Especially in Lite/Frame Rate mode), any Just Cause game, MX vs. ATV Untamed and lots more. I think Series X is worth it for backwards compatibility alone with stuff like improved/more consistent performances, Auto HDR (To select games), 4K uprender (To Original Xbox games and select 360 games), FPS Boost (Again, to select games. But some will cut down resolution and switch certain games from their One X enhanced form back to One S. Choose your poison basically. And some games' FPS Boost are already outdated due to certain games like Far Cry 5 and someday Fallout 4 getting Next-Gen upgrades) and being able to take advantage of One X enhancements on games that do get it really rocks plus it helps preserve games. Was blown away with seeing Sonic Generations, Banjo-Kazooie, Conker Live & Reloaded, SSX 3, Star Wars Episode III, Crash N. Sane Trilogy, Kingdom Hearts III, Team Sonic Racing, Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2, Injustice 2, Final Fantasy XIII Trilogy, Ninja Gaiden 2, SpongeBob: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated, Sonic Mania and Skate 3 all in 4K. More so with Series X-optimized titles like Mortal Kombat 11, Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition, Persona 3 Portable, 4 Golden and 5 Royal, Resident Evil 4 Remake and VIIlage, Final Fantasy Stranger of Paradise and Crisis Core, Lego Star Wars Skywalker Saga, Doom Eternal and Control: Ultimate Edition.@@GameCubeGalaxy

Tricky was definitely a benchmark for the franchise, and is widely remembered the most in the series. SSX 3 did something I thought was impossible, and that excel in every aspect that was amazing about Tricky. But as much as I loved the PS3, I always found myself coming back to Nintendo platforms thanks to their stellar games and properties.

Easily one of the best games of all-time! Yeah, Steep is mediocre at best…but modern gaming usually seems to straddle that line of games feeling too familiar and generic lol. Thanks for checking out the review!
