SsangYong Tivoli 2020 - More Exclusive Than Porsche 718 (ENG) - Test Drive and Review

SsangYong Tivoli is a rare car. In 2018 less Tivolis were sold in Europe, than Porsche 718 Boxster and Cayman. SsangYong is a Korean brand owned by the Indian conglomerate Mahindra&Mahindra. SsangYong sells mostly in Korea, but it does export cars around the world, and the Tivoli B-crossover should be an interesting proposition. The car which had its debut at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show has undergone a facelift. Is the refreshed 2020 SsangYong Tivoli any good?

Bought the Tivoli in 2017 coz I was broke. Have loved it ever since and increasingly so. Solid, reliable, spacious for the segment and you can even do light off road with it. Even today I think there is no better car for the money.

I have owned a tivoli xlv (Estate) ultimate from new for over 12 months now to which I paid less than 19k. I agree with the window screen issue, the air con being the quickest way to clear the screen. Other than that I disagree with most other complaints. My hill start assist is fantastic. My censors here in the UK has never missed a beat. I have Tom Tom sat nav, DAB, heated seats X4 and also cooled seats in the front. Heated leather S-wheel, LKA. The list goes on. Negatives - The paint is easily scratched and by far the thinnest I've ever come across and the petrol fuel economy isn't class leading. I do respect Mareks opinion as he is not new to car reviews, however I am more than content/happy with my choice, as the equivalent German alternative, Q2/Q3(which I agree would be of better quality&looks), is easily an extra 6-10K sterling more spec for spec with half the warranty! If I wasn't saving for property then maybe I would have spent extra on a tuscon or a sante fe. It's a solid car for the price especially if you go for nearly new, but test drive for your own opinion.

@@ghmusic8116 It was not plagued with rust problems, a few had rust problems when the RHD were first made in India for UK market but since they moved these cars to Rumania along with all other Dusters, no rust problems at all. The UK rust problem was corrected by Dacia but Dacia UK did not react quickly enough for veteran complainers because they were new to the game in the UK and not as ready as maybe they should have been for a large complaint, most cars affected seemed to be the white versions. My friend has had 4 dusters not because they were bad but because of upgrading to different models and getting good resale price, something you don't get with SsangYong.

@@ghmusic8116 Video is of a car at age 3 years and judging by the way he looks after his car some of these things look like driver inflicted problems and even then do not make the car unsafe and due to fall apart. A lot of his problems seemed to be his own that he will not admit to. My friend who is on his fourth, due as I said to upgrading, used to own a garage that dealt in Vauxhall and Jaguars and he swears he has never had a value for money car like the Duster. You obviously drove a base model because all Dusters have a radio above base model and a spare wheel as extra is a standard offering amongst a lot of manufacturers. Your price comparison is unrealistic but a fully spect Duster is 19,150 and is 4 X 4 whereas a Ford Ecosport a smaller SUV style car is only 4 X 2 and is only £500 cheaper in base trim with no extras, and a base Kuga starts at £23,000. There was a prelifted version standup well balanced and honest, I daresay. What I can actually share with you is the misconcern, or worse, an ordered blind eye on this South Korean brand. It is better than most of it's counterparts on the European market. It is reliable and pretty much eye catching B-SUV. I have driven it to Gotthard Pass to Northern Europe and back for 5500k. It works great. Probably, the slight responsive market is due to an agressive and yet false media management on other models of the kind. Just try it first and then speak truly of it. South Koreans should be trusted more than most of the European cars of this level.

I almost went for a Tivoli back in 2016 but I went for the Duster. Comparing the two (cheap new cars), the Tivoli was better made and looked better inside but just didnt go as well as the Duster. The Duster looked like something from the 90’s but had lots more room. I drove the 1.6l manual petrol Tivoli and it had no acceleration on the motorway. One good thing I like was the SsanYong dealership. No pressure at all and they let me have the Tivoli for the whole afternoon

It’s not that bad of a car. Oddly enough, the back end of the car felt like the damping of the suspension was all wrong. If I changed lanes on the motorway, the moment the Tivoli went over a painted strip. It felt like the back wheels were wobbling around. Trying to catch up with the rest of the car. Not sure if i can explain it clear enough. The Duster felt like a good car from the 90’s. no problems because it was a Renault parts bin, where everything had been tested before on other Renaults.

More Ssang yongs came from second hand market (maybe due to low price and decent offroad/towing performance) By the way in Lithuania Ssang yongs (looks like only Rexton and Korando left) have longer warranty: 5 years or 150000 km.

Now I don't know much in great detail but, there is an option to have an AISIN automatic transmission as well as far as I know, on this car... which from what I have seen are the same used in toyota, lexus and so on... the reliable brands? I no longer consider this car, I have ordered one after test driving it at a local dealer. I suggest anyone who looks at this review to try and test/see one themselves before giving in to paid/biased reviews or a stupid brand badge. Don't take my word for it, check out how that "RADIO DISPLAY" that he can't even call an infotainment system, actually is, in this POV impression vid kzread.info/dash/bejne/h4WbrcF9ac-7f7g.html Or you know... you could just test one.

The video you linked it to a fully loaded top spec version with digital instrument cluster and AN infotainment system. The car I'm driving is second from the top, and it gets a radio. Nothing more.

A few British channels had sponsored content for this car, but I assumed it was the only European country to import it. The rest of us, I'm sure, don't want it!

Use to own ssangyong. Hated every second. Brand loyalty will never ever happen to ssangyong. Don't care what ssangyong makes you will only be happy twice. The day you buy it and the day you get rid of it!!!! 😣

Korean, New Zealander, Australian cars are not the point, I suggested to insert a sport/Luxury/Suv car each month. I really like your reviews.
