SS14 - Exploring Barotrauma Damage and How to Deal With Spacing

Ойындар

I take some time taking quick looks as to how spacing/barotrauma damage works in popular Space Station 13 forks. While my knowledge of those forks is pretty limited, it gives a quick rundown of possible inspiration points for 14. This video also discusses the primary tools to deal with spaced areas.

"There is no reason not to max distro." Time to ruin it for everyone by stealing blue pipes from the floor and causing overpressure in rooms, killing everyone with the annoyance of firelock locking from pressure differencials as the atmos tech groans trying to find where the pipe is missing.

goonstation along with paradise bases their crit system on pain system, pain reduces your overall performance but it does NOT make you absolutely helpless however if there is enough pain you will fall into what is known as hard-crit (all the same on goon,tg,paradise. Cant do anything) 1:25 you stil do, its just that good mood may lower-rise the crit threshold

I had a shift on lizard the other day where atmos didn’t work the entire 1.5 hours we were working. Naturally o2 became a scarce resource and the crew slowly started losing control

There IS reason not to max out distro. Namely you'll drain distro faster and those miners are VERY slow. Also of course it makes unwrenching a pipe immediately overpressure the room and any sort of destroyed pipes lose a lot more air. I prefer to keep it at 200-300. Also similarly oxygen probably should be kept at default values because it will make fires worse since a plasma fire has significantly more fuel in a 50/50 than it would in a 78/22. The only real compelling reason to change the mix is that nitrogen tends to run out faster due to being used more.

  • @andrewgreeb916

I agree with distro pressure, but oxygen content should be increased slightly. Talking like 25% O2 since the server I play on has a morphotype that is very vulnerable to oxygen deprivation due to increased breathing rate and will start suffocating if air oxygen content drops below 21%.

  • @Bede__

A higher oxygen value would let people breathe even in a semi-depresssurized room

  • @DaFieFie

@@Bede__ In most situations by the time you're getting to that point, people should be looking at air tanks anyways due to the threat of spacing. Only real exception would be Delta V harpies where you might want a higher concentration, but still nowhere near 50/50 like some suggest.

I like to do 50:50 on the air mix, you could probably bump it up to 30:70 nitro to oxy since slimes are less prone to suffocating

For delta v they recommend 25% oxygen minimum due to harpies needing higher o2 content. You can go higher but I wouldn't recommend any higher than 50%

@@Liltenhead it's an atmos permission thing. Because assuredly an atmos tech would know what they're doing and not space the entire room behind the airlock. Anyone else wanting to open a door has to pry it. I think captain and HOP also have this access, maybe even HOS.

Also of note on evac shuttles; tiny fans. Tiny fans sit under each of the doors onto the shuttle and are essentially just infinite holofans, sure you risk someone shoving you out of the shuttle because you're right next to space, but it's easy to see when someone grabs you anyway and moving just a tiny bit will make them let go :)

Distro will be fine even you set it on 50 and 50, core thing is oxygen poisoning will start if proportion of oxygen is higher than nitrogen proportion. Also making gases sucks rn. The most effective schemes require more space in atmos, sadly wizdens aren't adding any new devices in order to compensate nerf.
