My father was a marine engineer/ naval architect… he led a team that redesigned the bow … I have his security access badge from Sun as well … He was not on the maiden voyage although he went on the second voyage. He is a knight of the blue noses … I have his 8mm home movie 🎥 footage as well as his Parka …. Other memorabilia as well as things he traded with the eskimos. Also I have the promotional board game. I am so very proud to have had such a great man as a father !! Thank you Dad 🙏

I was a ship-fitter for Newport News shipbuilding and had helped assembled sections of this ship, eight weeks of work for our shipyard!

This was shown on Finnish television soon after the voyage and I remember watching it with keen interest.

An amazing maritime feat that deserves more attention now.

I am guessing that the Manhattan was among the very last tankers designed with the forward bridge superstructure and a separate (for the engineering crew?) superstructure with the funnel at the stern.

My Great Grandfather helped build this mighty ship in the 1960s at General Dynamics Fore River in Quincy Massachusetts.

So glad to have stumbled across this again. I saw it the first time in elementary school over 40 years ago. I was just a kid and didn't know what was going on, but I remember being fascinated. Happy to be able to finally see it again and understand it this time around. Thanks for sharing.

Nostalgia! Is it possible for me to use and share this footage on my youtube page? I share footage from all kind of activities on our ocean. Cargo ships in the 1960s till now, oil rigs, fishing vessels, etc. Of course full credit will be given to the owner of the footage. Looking forward to your reply. Kind regards. Cheers.

This should be required viewing for climate skeptics as a rebuttal to denying global warming. Now the Crystal Serenity is going through the Northwest Passage without any modifications.
