Why this ship is so important👇
Now laying rest in the dry dock it was created in 184 years ago, in Bristol Harbour.
When she was launched in 1843, she was called 'the greatest experiment since the creation'. No one had ever designed so vast a ship, nor had the vision to build it of iron. Furthermore, the propeller of the SS Great Britain was revolutionary because it introduced the use of a more efficient and seaworthy screw propeller instead of traditional paddlewheels for propulsion. This set a precedent for the widespread use of screw propellers in subsequent ships, significantly shaping the course of naval engineering and shipping history.
Isambard Kingdom Brunel👇
Isambard Kingdom Brunel designed the Thames Tunnel, Clifton Suspension Bridge, Great Western Railway, and SS Great Britain, leaving an indelible mark on civil and mechanical engineering, transportation, and the Industrial Age.

Would have been great to have an old Battleship preserved as well. Many great candidates, but at the end I suppose it came down to cost. Great to see the SS Great Britain preserved though. A true trend setter.

The SS Great Britain isn’t actually the first biggest ship. It was a pirate ship
