Fear is a reasonable place to be at, but knowledge will calm, if not tame, some of those fears. You are an intelligent woman and knowledge will make things a bit easier. I've had multiple surgeries over the years, knee replacements, hip replacements, back surgery, ad infinitum. It doesn't get easier, but I'm approaching my twilight years with few fears of surgery and absolutely no fear of death. Stay strong, listen to your mind, gain knowledge and you will also do what is right for you. May your life be long and fullfilling.

Hi Emily , It has been awhile , so nice to see you . Your link for your blog is not working btw. Ok == Fear , yes it real , but I have been reading about SRS , before people new what SRS was !! I think it is great that your electrolysis is being covered , it truly needs to be done , if not your healing time might be longer. Before you go for hair removal down there , I have heard that taking a couple of Tylenol helps. , But best to check with your team first for any kind of drug , even over the counter. I understand you are at a point in your life where everything is clicking , I think that is great , you are looking fantastic , BTW __ please let your hair grow out , you truly are looking nice. OK - you love your job , another great , do they love you ? And respect you ? If so , please have a talk with your manager / supervisor about a medical leave of absents. Even if they hated you , they can not lawfully refuse a medical leave if signed by your doctor !! , I am sure the love you as much as we do. Taking this step can do many things , there is the possibility of a paid leave of absence for medical reasons with 80% of your salary. Again , your medical team / doctor ( they sound super ) will need to sign off on it , but the thing is taking this action will do many things to help you . Such as: 1 The time to heal without worrying about your job ( less stress = better healing !! ) 2 The much needed time to get to know the new you , and it will take time. ( less stress thing !! ) 3 I understand you are scared , I am not going to tell you don`t be , it is major surgery. You know me well enough to know I have never lied to you knowingly , and I am not going to start now. So this part is important and I am not holding back , and I am sure you have already heard from others or read for yourself what I am about to say , so here goes. Day of surgery , you are getting a surgery at one of the best transgender hospitals the world. !! no BS Boston Medical Center is world renown for there expertise . You will have to get up early , take a shower with antibiotic soap ( it will not sting ) , then leave for the hospital , you will be admitted. Then taken to pre-op where you will be explained ( again ) what will happen , you by now have already signed the release. They will just go over it again , then offer you a mild sedative if you are nervous. And then wait , during this time Juliana will be allowed by your side. When your time for surgery comes you will be given a few moments alone and Juliana will be escorted to the waiting room. You will be scared yes , but you will be you . Sleep time. OK you wake up , there might be discomfort , Juliana will be with you , ring your buzzer and a nurse will offer you pain management , take it !! After your first day they will get you out of bed and walking , you need to get up !! They might get you walking the same day , they need to to prevent any blood clots from forming. ( don`t be scared , I am laying it all out , it`s all great - ok ) . Then you will go back to your room , you may either sit up if you wish or lie down see how you feel. If you are hungry or thirsty , eat !! The next few days might be challenging but really no more so than your top surgery , ok maybe a little. After about 5 days you will be released ( maybe sooner ) but before that they will give you your dilation kit , it will include 4 to 5 varying sizes of dilators , you will be shown how and when to use then before you are discharged and they will make sure you are comfortable doing it yourself before leaving . Then you will spend the next 4 to 6 weeks healing with followups most likely every two weeks. During the first 6 months you will be dilating about 4 times per day and you will need to push yourself to get to the largest within the time frame suggested by your team , it might be uncomfortable , but if you fail to do so , your new vagina will heal shut :( , so be strong and stay the course , OK !! Past the 6 months you may dilate less , however you will need to continue… ( infinity ) After , when you feel ready you may resume all regular activities . Like I said , no sugar coating from me , because you deserve the truth If you have heard all of this before great , if this is the first time reading about this , then google everything or contact me. You are going to fly , pretty angel :) take care , Gary 

Hi, I am also on the path to transition and I would recommend that you check the four months claim. I have heard from friends who have transitioned and there are tons of videos that say that its more like four to five weeks. I am not sure if yo are in a job that requires extreme heavy lifting or something similar in a Law Enforcement field, but fivee weeks is what appears to be the nor, unless you have complications. Hope this helps, but stay strong girl !! :)

I think most of us would be a little nervous. I'm looking into SRS but it depends if surgeon will take my case since I have Chronic leukemia. I had laser on my entire body and it was very effective in that region. I'm doing electrolysis now to remove the blonde hairs on my face after 8 laser treatment couldn't get. I'm also concerned about time away from work. I think we all worry too much instead of just taking it one day at a time. I wish you well!

Sorry I've been away for a while but I had SRS in 1992 and I was off work for TWO WEEKS. The first 2 days back were not great (boss sent me home early the first day because he said I looked like shit!)...but 4 months? nah

I used to have this fear and then something just clicked in me. Once I realized that it was the only thing I’ve ever wanted. I felt the need that it has to happen. It’s such a shame that insurance and coverages changes from state to state or province to province. Don’t worry. I have faith and I’m sure you’ll be fine :)

Ask support from family and friends or you partner and book an appointment to just have a talk about it with an psychologist. Tell them you are scared but really want this, ask them for help and a bit of reassurance, maybe ask a parent to go with you and be there when you wake up from surgery.

Hi Emily, You seem to be lucky to live Mass. other places in the U S regime are less generous. In Canada we have 'Universal Healthcare' which pays for everything. good luck don't worry ( if you're healthy ).

I'm an older trans women, who expressed who I was to my coworkers last February... Had facial surgery in mid October and now I am scheduled for breast augmentation at the end of February... I know you said that you had 375cc implants done... my question; is are you happy with that size?... I am contemplating 400 - 450cc.. I just don't want to go overboard... I am 6' and weigh about 170lbs. (hoping to get done to 164Lbs by surgery time) What do you think?

I am very happy with my size, my doctor originally had suggested 450 but now i'm happy i brought that down to 375cc as for my height ( 5' 6" ) and weight (160 ) I think any bigger for me personally would have not looked best, but this is of course all based on what the person is looking for, I didn't want HUGE but other do and thats fine, I ended up with a D cup and am happy with that!
