In all the Vedic scripture, the position accorded to the Srimad Bhagavatam Mahapuran or the Bhagwat Katha is exceptional. The Vedas are, of course, the highest authority. However, Srimad Bhagavatam Mahapuran is like the essence of the Vedic teachings, written by Ved Vyas himself. Knowledge of Vedas and Upanishads is presented in such a blissful manner, with all the Divine pastimes of God and His devotees, that listening to the Bhagwat Katha becomes an experience in itself. Not only does it illuminates our intellect with Divine wisdom, it also moves our heart and fills them with the nectar of Divine love. That is why it is said that this Srimad Bhagavatam or Bhagwat Katha has something that even the Vedas do not have.
In the first episode of Srimad Bhagavatam Mahapuran lecture series in English, Swami Mukundananda says that in all the Vedic scripture, the position accorded to the Srimad Bhagavatam Mahapuran is exceptional. The Vedas are, of course, the highest authority.
However, Srimad Bhagavatam Mahapuran is like the essence of the Vedic teachings, written by Ved Vyas himself. Knowledge of Vedas and Upanishads is presented in such a blissful manner, with all the Divine pastimes of God and His devotees, that listening to the Bhagavat Katha becomes an experience in itself. Not only does it illuminates our intellect with Divine wisdom, it also moves our heart and fills them with the nectar of Divine love. That is why it is said that this Srimad Bhagavatam Mahapuran has something that even the Vedas do not have.
Jagadguru Shree Kripaluji Maharaj says,
"Vandaniya hai Upanishad, inme gyan mahan
Shyam prem binu gyan so pran hin tanu jaan"
The Upanishads do have Divine knowledge but they do not have the bliss of Divine love and the sri... has both.
Swami Mukundananda also relates a story from Puranas. Guru of Mother Parvati- vamdev Maharaj asked her, "Parvati, your husband Lord Shiva wears this mund-maal (garlands of heads) of beautiful women. Have you never asked him?" He invoked jealousy in Parvati. She went and asked Lord Shiva the same question. Lord Shiva said, "Parvati, these are your heads. Each time you give-up your body, I am so attached to you that I pick-up your head and make a garland out of it." Parvati was pacified but she asks, "My Lord, I keep giving-up body but you never give up the body, what is the matter?" Lord Shiva says, "Parvati, the reason is that I have got the Amar Katha- the immortal story. And by virtue of that, I am immortal."
What is this immortal story, how Lord Shiva tells mother Parvati the story and what happens in between? Listen to the full episode of "Bhagavatam in English- Swami Mukundananda- Part 1"

Beautiful lecture! Swamiji explains that the Vedas are the highest authority. Srimad Bhagavatam is the essence of Vedic teachings. The knowledge of Vedas and Upnishdas is devine but the knowledge and teachings of Srimad Bhagavatam are devine and full of bliss. Also Swamiji has related a beautiful Amar Katha between Shiv and Parbati. Amazing! The entire lecture is full of bliss. Thank you Swamiji.

Swamiji’s teachings on the Bhagavatam last year locally were an excellent introduction to this sacred scripture that extends and deepens the wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita. This is a priceless opportunity he’s giving us. The texts are available as e-books now and are very affordable so you can follow along with his lectures at home with ease on your device. There is no excuse now not to take one’s learning and understanding of the original works to a more profound level.

I am from Canada, I am not religious at all and I know very little about Krishna but I am very, very drawn to Krishna and the ways of him. There's something inside me that grows stronger every day that's telling me to listen and seek out. I love the teachings and Swami really speaks to my soul. I don't want to offend a culture as I am biracial (1/2 black 1/2)and not Indian. I just feel this strong connection to Krishna that I cannot explain and I barely know anything about him. Can I embrace this? I would love to learn as much as I can. Thank you in advance to whom answers. Hare Krishna!!

in Bhagavad Gita, Shri Krishna says even the most evil, lowly (based on low mentality nd behaviour) or the most down trodden of the beings can become liberated once they completely take my shelter. To the one who become my devotee, I preserve what they have and take to them what they lack. Sanatan Dharm (original name of Hinduism is Sanatan Dharm according to scriptures; Sanatan = eternal, Dharm = natural cosmics laws and virtuous moral duties) does not have the concept of "conversion" of religions or forbidding people based on colour, or nationality. The moment you feel connected to Sanatan Dharm through your soul, you connect yourself to the cosmos. It doesn't matter whether you r biracial or non-indian, as Sanatan does not consider this body as permanent, the only thing that is permanent is the SOUL. In this life you are biracial, in next life you may be a white or black, or an Indian, anything is possible, it does not matter. If you are feeling connected, then the cosmos chose your soul. Go ahead and contact JKyog in Canada for further assistance in devotion.

This is really a fortunate moment to listen Amar Katha from Swamiji. Good to know the birth history of Sukhdev ji, who we are indebted today. Also many interesting facts about bhagvatam, waiting for the next series to listen. As Jagadguru Shree Kripaluji Maharaj says, "Vandaniya hai Upanishad, inme gyan mahan Shyam prem binu gyan so pran hin tanu jaan". Mind gets to absorbed by listening to the divine pastimes of Sri Shyamsundar. Without that it looks so empty, dry and incomplete.

I value Sanatana Dharma and I’ve been studying Vedanta for several years. I’m by no means an expert as I have so much to learn and even more to realize. With that said I have a question regarding the Srimad Bhagavat Purana… My question is about the many stories and past times the Srimad Bhagavat Purana contains. They are no doubt beautiful stories with deep philosophical and spiritual truths. It is easy to recognize this, but it is incredibly difficult to understand how these stories can be literally true. For example, Krishna lifting the entire mountain of Govardhana with his pinky, or the story of Nrsimhadeva manifesting from out of a pillar. These are only a couple examples of course, but anyone who has read the Bhagavatam knows what I’m talking about, and can easily think of many other examples one could give. Again, the stories are incredible and contain deep knowledge and wisdom. I value the Bhagavat Purana but how is one to know that they are all literally true? That part is very difficult to grasp, and I appreciate any reply that is sincere and motivated by good intentions that might help. Thank you 🙏
