    Excellent video! Please do more videos on different freeways in the DFW area! They are always changing and it is nice to see an update every once in a while!

    Last year when 121 wasn't a nightmare to drive. It's currently being widened from 6 lanes to 8. But in order to do that, TXDoT shuts down at least one lane of traffic daily. That wouldn't be such a big deal if not for all the people who have moved here who don't understand the laws of: slower traffic keep right, left lane for passing only, do not impede the flow of traffic. But that's a nation wide problem. Casey Putsch did a great series of vids about that a few months ago.

    I hope to see more states implement HOT/HOV lanes to fund infastructure where the gas tax isn't cutting it anymore. It seems to be working quite well with Texas and boy do those ramps look fun to drive. Awesome video and happy new year!

    Something I've learned while driving the DFW region is that it's MASSIVE. Miles and miles of highways/toll roads, and seemingly endless development all around.

    Is 121 between 183 & 360 getting another general purpose lane, a Texpress connection/extension, or even both? I was in Dallas for the first time ever last February... barely a month before all the covid19 Lockdowns commenced. But I was an adamental tight-ass regarding tolls at that time... took the long way to/back from Cleburne & got stuck in... surprisingly not too much traffic the entire weekend I was in town. US 75 between Downtown & the High Five was a fustercluck both directions around sundown on... a Saturday, I think?

    I'm not sure if there are any plans to widen SH-121 through there or not.

    The SH-121 project is a peak-period shoulder lane. A similar lane used to exist on SH-161 in Irving from SH-183 northwards to Belt Line, on the gap between the two segments of the President George Bush Turnpike; SH-161 has since been widened.

    To my understanding, the DFW Connector (seen starting at 4:15) is one of the widest freeways in the world. Just as with the situation with the Katy Freeway in Houston however, the inclusion of frontage/auxiliary lanes may be needed to account for this, but just based on freeway lanes (and express lanes) alone it seems comparable to the 401, though the main section of the DFW Connector is fairly short (and it is only that wide because so many freeways come together in a "funnel" there; in fact, the old 8-lane freeway that existed prior to reconstruction was known as "The Funnel"). It would be more impressive with high-mast lighting, but you absolutely cannot use those around active runways, so it is much like the situation along the 401 in eastern Mississauga when it runs adjacent to Pearson Airport.

    i think i may have written that TX-114/TX-121 was the widest highway in the world during my I-635 interchange.

    @@AsphaltPlanet1 Yes, that was where I heard that. 114/121 is very wide in terms of right-of-way just west of the 121/114/635/International Parkway interchange (at 4:36).

    Why did NTTA toll the ramp to 35E North?

  • @BrandonClaridge

    @BrandonClaridge

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@piemega1473 Actually, those ramp tolls at the I-35E/SRT interchange are not collected for the NTTA. They are technically considered a part of the I-35E express lanes project, even though those ramps do not currently connect with the express lanes. Unlike the express lanes, the ramp tolls do not fluctuate (it is $1.16 with a TollTag/TxTag, with an HOV2+ discount available). Once Phase 2 of the I-35E project is complete, you will be able to take those tolled ramps and then choose between the general purpose lanes and the express lanes (and vice-versa), which will become bidirectional (rather than reversible as they currently are). And it is the ramp from eastbound SRT to northbound I-35E that makes this particular stack six levels. The mirror connection (westbound SRT to southbound I-35E) is on the 4th level of the interchange. It seems that was done because the clearance was too low on the west side of the interchange to allow the eastbound-to-northbound ramp to pass under the northbound-to-westbound ramp.
