My dad once had a squirrel that would take food out of his hand. She got to trusting him so much that she would even sit next to him as she ate it rather than running away. He could go outside and just call her and she would come from wherever she was. It was very sweet.😊

I had a squirrel that I called Mr. Becker that would do that. I’d buy peanuts and we’d sit outside and have snacks. He took the peanuts from my hand so gently.

The trick to this is holding the food in your hand without eye contact or moving at all. After trust is built then it will be more comfortable. No movements!

Had a backyard where we fed squirrel everyday at same time (after college class) with door always open. If all three of us forgot to feed the squirrel, they would come in the house and we would feed her by hand.

All of your stories made me think of Bob Ross from The Joy of painting on PBS. He had a squirrel that sat on his shoulder as he painted.

I started feeding the birds in my yard, but the squirrels kept eating the food. So I started giving the squirrels their own food and now I have squirrels and birds waiting for breakfast every morning 😊.

I keep pecans for the Squirrels in my neighborhood and if I forget to put a few on the fence in the morning they stand next to my gate as I leave for work, like "HELLLOOOO!?" lol I see little eyes peering over my fence or see them jump from my detached garage to the fence to get my attention.

We feed them all here. They’re fun to watch. We have an albino squirrel here now. Seems like every few years we see one. Last night my neighbor and I were in our front yard talking. A whole litter of young squirrels were having quite the frolic. We heard a loud splat. One of the squirrels fell out of a tree, & landed in the street. We thought oh☹️but, no. He got up again and off he went. Recently we discovered a new rodent has built a nest under our shed. No problem 😉 we think it’s a woodland vole. It’s no wonder with all the green space around us getting built on. God gives us nature to enjoy and we do😉 God’s blessings to you all! Kind Animal people are the best people!

I feed the squirrels in our oak tree. I've also been a sqirrel mom over the years for little ones that fall out of the tree, and their mom doesn't or isnt able to retrieve them. Its such a wonderful feeling to be part of their world. As soon as they hear my voice, they come rnning. Its heartwarming to be a squirrel mom. ❤️

I am a squirrel mom too! I have had the honor of hand raising two squirrels. My first friend was Twig, l found her dead after 3 years, assuming someone put poison out. My second squirrel girl is Dani and she visits almost daily and walks into my home thru my back screen door if it’s open,past my 3 dogs, sometimes even parkouring off of one of them, hops onto my dining room table and eats seeds that l have on a plate for her. One time l was doing dishes in my kitchen with my back to the door when she quietly came in and jumped on my back, scared the piss out of me. She will play with my hand by spinning around my arm and bite my fingers, usually not hard, kind of like a puppy. She likes to let the other squirrels know that l am hers by jumping on me around the others. I am truly blessed!

You really should provide an after dinner mint and a digestif or fine cognac after such a meal.😁

Well the pecans are a definite preference. It is joyful seeing animals content.🌻

I find it interesting that they seem to try and grab what they want without disturbing the rest. Birds (and some cats :p ) tend to pick up and throw away what they don't want in order to get to what they like.

Lucky squirrels, there’s a free buffet for them, all foods are healthy and delicious with fresh fruits! Thank you Mam for your concern to these beautiful animals!

I've also been making squirrel food for my backyard squirrels that they love that includes calcium. It's an important mineral for them that people who feed them need to be aware of and that squirrels can't get from nuts only. My squirrel cookies include sweet potatoes, eggs, peanut butter, chopped walnuts, olive oil, oats, whole wheat flour and calcium powder for animals. The birds and squirrels fight over them!

Your neighbours sound awful... You have every right to feed wildlife and "do your bit". Don't let anyone bully you for being kind to animals. Squirrels play an important role in the ecosystem - no matter what some people think of them. If the neighbours keep whinging, remind them that a healthy squirrel population cleaning up all the bits of food means that you're far less likely to get rats and a range of other "pests", so what would they prefer? Ugh, I can't stand people like that! They sound like the sort to complain if the birds sing too loudly in the morning... 🙄 Thank you for carrying on anyway and supporting your furball friends 💕👍

At my old apartment, we often had a mix of birds and squirrels equally enjoying sunflower seed kernels scattered on the patio. The squirrels were especially funny with them, because they would usually suck up several at a time like a vacuum cleaner!

All those squirrels remind me of the day every June when the babies leave the nest in our oak tree. Six or seven chase each other around and sometimes come to the window to look at me before they take off on their own to see the world.

It feels almost as if they’re reluctant to take anything without you being there to give them permission first… either that or whatever chores you were doing were somehow more interesting than the all they could eat buffet before them 😂 I’m always curious about how squirrels perceive phones & cameras. Obviously you had your phone on the stand to film while you weren’t there & one or two of them seemed a little wary of it - like they think it’s another creature in it’s own right, watching them with it’s cold, unblinking lens-eyes & they’re unsure of what it might do without you there to hold it. As always, your visitors cute little antics & your endless generosity towards them are a joy to see. I hope things in your world start to settle down again soon & you can get back to the calm, peaceful normality of running the best squirrel cafe in town!

It's sad that some people will think that about squirrels. I would say that's selfish but as long as they don't poison them or harm them. I feel that feeding them nuts is a neighbourly thing to do as they are also our "neighbours" lol

I used to feed squirrels when I was in a ground floor flat, one would eat out of my hand and let me stroke it's head briefly then someone told me the damage they could do if they decided to bite me (accidentally hopefully!) so I didn't hand feed him. When I had to move I left a note for the next tenants and asked them if they would kindly feed the squirrels and explained what they liked and how they had great appetites! I miss them...

Beautiful 💕 Also, they all took just the one piece at a time, which is remarkably well mannered and restrained for wild animals, and shows that they feel safe and confident about returning to grab another bite from you.
