Музыка

Seriously, what is it with the Indonesian Fender / Squier factory? This here Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Bass Special retails for only $200, but it's got desirable features like a two-band active EQ and P / J bass pickups, and a build-quality and playability that are more than gig-worthy. This is the kind of bass you buy as a backup, but end up making your primary instrument.
Owen played the Vintage Modified Jaguar Bass Special direct into a radial JDI and Focusrite Liquid Saffire 56 interface, and also mic'd through an Ampeg B200 combo. He may have reservations about its lack of a passive bypass option, be he's got no reservations about the VM Jaguar Bass's slap-tone.

Squier makes 4 different Vintage Modified Jaguar basses. This one and the one with the humbucker are active. The short scale and the $300 long scale P/J with Duncan Designed pickups are passive. Both of the passive Jags have black headstocks, the actives have natural finished headstocks.

I have owned and played a squire jaguar standard scale for several years just like the one shown only in black on black. A jaguar is an excellent choice as you are buying 2 bases you don't have to choose between a precision or jazz bass. For the novice and seasoned alike we can both enjoy the following. 1) You can decide witch sound you like best precision for a tight metal sound; but still have the option to change on the fly if the song requires jazz if you want to muddy it up, or blend them together you want to make your own unique sound. 2) You don't have to break the bank, the money you save you can spend on a decent amp. I recommend at least a Fender 15 rumble bass amp.

I've owned mine for a few years. What appealed to me was the debate between precision and jazz is solved. Another feature is you can customize your sound. Tight and clean all precision. Want to smooth it out mix in a little jazz pickup, like it muddy wide open on the jazz and your amp is the limit.

This video inspired me to get one of these basses. I liked it so much that I traded in a well loved Fender P Bass standard to get it. This bass plays and sounds fantastic! It is the gem of Squier's product line. My Modulus Q5 and Burns Bison bass will be collecting some dust for a while as this axe is gig worthy. Stock strings are good. Setup is medium and good. Tuners stay in tune pretty well. Nut is nice. Frets are not rolled, but not a deal breaker. Battery compartment is easy to us

Great playing!!! I believe the bass has passive pickups though. It is just a bass boost that required the 9v battery, this can be controlled with the third knob. The fourth knob is for passive tone and the top 2 knobs are volume for the p and j pickups respectively. Very similar to the ibanez GSR200. I think squier wanted to have a bass that rivaled the gsr200 with p/j pickups and a bass boost circuit in the $200 price range.

Not to mention Duncan-designed pickups. The one with the maple board you're talking about is the Fender Modern Player Jaguar.

I got one of these a few months ago. I don't really have any problems with it other than the active pickup makes it to where it don't work at all without a 9 volt battery. SX has their version of the jaguar bass and it's actually way more accurate to the original and it's cheaper too..and they have better colors.

Love the Vintage Modified Series (I have the 70's Jazz bass and have been making some additional mods to it) they are truly great basses for the price. And while I hate to nitpick as it could just be the audio quality -does anyone after hearing this feel like the jazz pickup is pulling a lot of the weight? Just curious, maybe it's just me. If I buy this one the I'm already considering a Gotoh high mass bridge, either Nordstrand or Dimarzio pickups, and GHS pressure wound strings.
