Not just for kids. I’ve been Professional Musician for 50 years. A number of years ago arthritis robbed me of the professional use of my hands. I’m in therapy now and it’s a slow road back, but thank God for these mini-guitars from Squire. When the mini Strats came out I bought two of them!

Same here psoriatic arthritis and i got the ibanez short scale. Don’t be fooled by the size of these guitars. Great tone, very easy to play, lightweight and you wont hit the guy nxt to you.

Agreed. I'm recovering from a minor stroke which affected my left hand (spread on the finger board) I have a vintage P bass which I now struggle to play running style. I bought one of these a couple of months back and its been a god send to my playing. I thoughly reccomend short scale bases now, in particular, these Squires. You will need to set it up, as they do come from the factory a bit loose, but there's plenty of videos on this.

Yep, my dad has arthritis and his current favorite guitar is a Taylor GS Mini because of the short scale. I actually love short scale guitars because I'm mostly a jazz player and it's a lot easier to reach some of those weird chord voicings. My dream guitar is a Byrdland, but I'm happy with my Jaguar for now.

I got a red one. The hardware is pretty good quality for the price. I replaced the jack with a Switchcraft (the original is just fine for home use). The original bridge is about 0.5cm too far back. Setting intonation for the original strings barely leaves any adjustment. It's possible you may need longer intonation screws if you change to different strings. I replaced the bridge with a Gotoh and had to swap the A string screw with a longer one from the original bridge. The bass is very well made and even has properly grounded shielding paint in the pickup cavity. As other people have commented the pickup isn't great, but as long as you roll back the tone a bit it's quite usable.

Kind of like a toy but at the same time just like super awesome and fun to play! After I bought it I brought it over to my friend's house to show him and he couldn't put it down either yeah great pickups in this thing and super fun to play it's a total win I think this thing is awesome and I'm probably going to have it for the rest of my life.

The Squire Classic Vibe Mustang bass has a laurel neck and a vintage style, oval, split coil pickup. The Bronco bass has a Mustang body, one single coil, Stratocaster guitar pickup and a maple neck. The Bronco looks like a Musicmaster bass. This Mini P-bass also has another advantage. The Bronco bass bridge features a pair of dual saddles, like the original Musicmaster bass. This means, there is only one intonation screw and two height adjustment screws for each saddle pair. You do not have full individual string height and intonation adjustability. In contrast, this Mini P-Bass bridge has four separate saddles. Each saddle features two height screws and one intonation screw, allowing for full adjustability on each string. Because of the limited tonal quality of the single Strat guitar pickup and the lack of full adjustability on the Bronco, I would guess that the Mini P-bass is superior to the slightly more expensive Bronco. My suggestion for the bright harshness on the D and G strings, is to lower and tilt the treble side of the split coil pickup. This will make it farther away from the two brightest strings and possibly give the bass better tone and balance. I believe that flatwound strings are the best choice for shortscale basses. They usually require more tension than roundwound strings. Flatwounds will give the bass a more mellow, woody tone and the greater string tension will decrease that floppy, rubber band-ish feel of the looser, roundwound, shortscale strings. Also, this is supposedly a bass for kids. Flatwounds feel like butter on your fingers, compared to roundwound bass strings, which would hurt a newbie's tender fingertips a lot more. If I had to do it all over again for my son, I would've let him struggle for a few weeks on roundwounds and then, I would've bought him some flatwounds, just to see the smile on his face, when he felt that silky smooth sensation of playing on strings that don't feel like damn cheese graters.

@Anne Henriksen I stole that line from the legendary sideman, Phil Chen, who recently passed away, RIP. Phil owned a 62 Fender P bass and he never changed the strings after he bought it used. His Labella flatwounds were over 50 years old. Phil was a great character. I enjoyed his interviews very much. It was funny to hear a Chinese guy who grew up in Jamaica brag about his ancient strings with a big smile on his face: "I nevah change muh strings. James Jamerson, he's muh idol, you know. He said, da dirt keeps da Funk, so I nevah change dem. I play da really tick, heavy guage, LaBella flatwoonds, you know. Dat's a mon's bass. I don't like dem tin little cheese cutta strings, you know".

Overall a good video. I'm looking for my first bass and sticking to short scales, so I just tried the Mini last night, like you said, for the price, not bad. Two comments on the video. 1. Great beginner tip about plucking back by the bridge. I'll have to explore this. 2. No disrespect meant by this, but short scale basses are stuck with this "kids' toy" rap. I hope to see the people selling / promoting these instruments present them for what they are. IE; Built for anyone with smaller hands or arms, people who travel, someone who needs a lighter weight bass due to health issues, etc. Leo Fender really stuck Short Scale basses with a stigma from the 60's when first promoting them as a "kid's bass". Again, no disrespect meant.

I wonder if the neck and tuners could handle a 52-110 set of La Bellas. 🤔

Thanks for not slapping through the whole video. But I would like to hear some long notes and not so much staccato. Can't really hear the tone of the bass on staccato notes.

Putting some flatwounds on will take some of that harshness away.

Why the rush to take it away? A softer attack would take the clack out, and leave you with a fat tone that still has some growl to it.

The sound you are getting out of it is SUPER BAD. You'd never guess where it comes from, if blindfolded. Great bass whatever the price, and the size is a definite advantage. For one thing, I don't bang into my other guitars anymore, and my thigh doesn't its blood supply cut off.

Here, let me just hold this up next to a regular sized P-bass (or even a guitar) so you can really get an idea of it’s actual size. Or have that dude stand up. He’s seems a bit small in stature. 🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪
