@@Bronco2Cj Honestly, I can't speak to how much better/not better a Player Tele much. For me personally, my CV50 was so good, I didn't feel that the Player was worth the jump in price. To be fair, I'd only played one Player Tele. It was in a Guitar Center and had some issues. I'm sure some of those were just from being in a GC for a long time. But like I said, I never had a desire for a Player since I like my CV50 so much. The CV50 played great and I liked the looks better. If I were looking to get another Tele between those 2, I'd get a CV50 personally.

I got one of the early Chinese telicasters classic vibe. I really wanted a telly but couldn’t afford a Mexican or USA one. After looking at reviews on KZread I went to a great music shop in Glasgow, saw the guitar on the wall and started to play it unplugged. I couldn’t believe that a Squire could feel as good as my USA strat, but it did! After I plugged it in I was sold. £340 and my first bought new guitar. I highly rate it…

I picked the Indonesia Squier Classic Vibe Tele recently and upgraded with Monty's DP51T Pickups, Golden Age Pre-Wired Harness, Dome Knobs, Slotted Unbleached Nut and Compensated Unplated Brass Bridge Saddles. Still only half the price of the FAPII with all the modernization I need. Also have the CV Esquire that I plan on upgrading the Pots & swapping to a Black Pick Guard only & a Solo Kit Tele [DIYnocaster] I built & upgraded with Fender Custom Shop Nocaster Pickups and upgraded all of the hardware like I'm doing to this CV Tele now. I do Tele's & LP's mainly. My fifth Classic Vibe and they have all been great out of the box, a relief since I cant ever play a guitar before I buy it any more.

I'm a lefty also and bought my CV Telecaster back in 2020 and was wondering what pickups were installed in my guitar. When I purchased the guitar from Sweetwater the description stated that it came with Alnico V pickups the same ones as in the Player series but I just wanted to be sure because last year(2022) there were some debates on a few forums as to what the actual pickups were used in the CV Telecaster. I called my Sweetwater sales representative and he called his Fender contact with my guitars serial number and what the Fender associate stated was that my CV Telecaster definitely has the Alnico V pickups the same ones used in the higher level Fenders.

I prefer the compensated brass saddles on a Telecaster but I still cant get the intonation bang on, but it is very close, I have seen some mini brass saddles in a six configuration in a traditional bridge design although I neglected to save the address of the website. I should be able to find somewhere that sells it though. My daily driver Telecaster is a 1983 Japanese Squier in sunburst, I bought it from new and it was much better than any of the USA Fender Telecasters available at the time, I would put it up against any current Fender also. There are many Telecaster copies available that I like and th are excelleneyt instruments, A different tone to a Fender or my 83 Squier but some nice sounding instruments and less expensive and some are better specced.

One of the best reviews on KZread, thanks, man! I'm wondering and hearing how good the VB performs, even with the QC. Much better than the MIM and MIA. The factory should have been changed to Indonesia. With high-end headphones I can't barely hear any differences in tone like in other videos (well, sound quality of YT isn't always best here, but not hearing anything between 1 grand and more?). Great sound demo and playing, really appreciated! Also very good detailed informations and photos. You're the first mentioning this screw hole on the Pro II for adjustment! I wanna go for an MIA beside the higher costs and problems regarding QC. We're shocked in Europe due the increasments in prices by Fender. The Pro II is now too expensive being just a simple Tele. I'm wondering you gone for a Pro II when the CV fitts so well, I mean the price tag is heavy. Or is it the same feeling, playing with a better made guitar with value like a origin Les Paul? The neck heel and kinda different neck couldn't be the answer, so why you added this one to your collection? And yes, incredible to spend a whole setup on a brand new guitar, even MIA! What's the date of birth? Due Corona they had a lot of issues producing for quantitiy.

Thanks for the positive review of my video! That means a lot! As far as why I bought the Pro II, I address it a bit at the end. Basically, I wanted to get one Telecaster that I keep forever and I prefer the Pro II. The CV is a fantastic guitar, no doubt about it! I played it for 6 years. However, I feel the Pro II is a better guitar. $1,250 better? Probably not really, but that depends on what you like. I like the neck and fretboard on the Pro II better. The Pro II feels a bit better to play in my opinion, and I find the pickups to be more versatile for what I play (but pickups are easily changed). If you prefer a thinner neck and maple fretboard, you may prefer the CV. And there's absolutely nothing wrong with that! I agree that the Pro II is very expensive for what it is (though I got a good deal on mine). It was a big stretch for me to get. By far the most I've ever spent on a guitar. But I'm only doing it once, so I've made it work. The Pro II has a June 2022 serial number, so the set up issues are probably not really Corona related. It definitely should not have needed that much work, but I always get take my guitars to a guy to get set up to my preference after I've had them for a bit anyway. So it's certainly annoying, but not anything that won't be addressed in the setup anyway. Thanks for watching, thanks for the awesome comment, and feel free to ask any more questions!

@@DadRockAndGuitars Hey Rocker, thanks for answering. It was late at night when I wrote my message and it was faulty like hell and I want to buy a MIA. Years ago I spent more on a LP (got the better quality and no chambering) and now everyone complains about the prices, but they're cheaper nowadays, even with inflation. But a MIA Strat was compared half the price, now it's getting closer and closer to the Les Pauls although a Tele is much more simple in construction. The setups mostly lacks what I've experienced and getting worser. Some time ago I got the setup for free but it changed with "better" online prices. The market going nuts. Yes, a 22 serial shouldn't been C. related (maybe more on the last year's firing 300 employees in Corona). I don't know why Fender isn't aware of all these issuses? I mean the whole internet is full of bad reputations on Fender and, even small online magazines carved out all these problems. Tons of MIM aren't playable, bat fret jobs, faulty setups, many issues on the nut bone ... I often read that the case is looking fine, but not that durable. Did you see the pictures when it is used as the described flight-case? ;) But you want take your guitar on a plane for sure. Well, mate, thanks for your offering to ask more, it's also wholesome for your YT algo :) At the moment I could save on a buy that much to get the older prices like they had two years ago that I should go for it finally (special voucher), it won't get cheaper, but some prices also decreasing now. There're plenty of prospective buyers who think the same due the crazy price tag (on a Tele). Regarding the tone via KZread of your Teles (and other youtuber's reviews) there's mostly no big difference in it. It's a pity because it could mislead your decision if only consulting online reviews based on the tone. But let's see how they will sound in kind.

  • @DadRockAndGuitars

@@rotepillenfresser4544 Yeah, part of the reason I got the Pro II when I did was because the prices just keep going up. I was waiting for better timing and to save up more money, but then the price would jump up again. I found it on sale and it wasn't going to get any cheaper. So now I have my Tele and my Les Paul and I'm probably done with buying guitars for a long time. 🙂 I probably wouldn't fly with the case, but it's great for gigs around town! As far as the tone, there are definite differences, but they aren't too far apart. They both sound like Teles. The CV is definitely a bit brighter. The Pro II is a bit smoother on the high frequencies and therefore works better when using more gain in my opinion. That's mostly it regarding tone.

Well, maybe prices will going down during the upcoming (we're already in) recession, but how knows. It will also save me more time to practise 'cause I was crazy about buying or not. The tone varies for my ears, couldn't believe, in fretboard material. Maybe you know this comparison between the same Tele with rosewood and maple (the green one). I will go for the maple due historic facts and the brighter tone. I'm also fine with my guitars, you also need the time for practicing and playing, not collecting/hunting and watching all for this things. I also own a LP and now, it should be fine. Hopefully the setup and everything is fine, it's like a lottery and I don't know the "building-year". I also ordered a Fender Micro for playing in the garden or just beeing outside. For the first view it looks solid. First I was in for the "real" Baja, but there isn't a real successor, maybe the vintera, but prices rose around 350-400 bucks. 🇺🇸 Professional 2 telecaster Miami Blue is my 🎸. I'm a strat guy and was looking for another sound. PRS didn't do anything for me. So I was going to get a Mex strat and put Seymour Duncan pick ups in it. Then the telecaster got my attention, so I was checking out Mex telecasters and I asked the guy at the store if he had an 🇺🇸 professional 2 telecaster and, he came out with a Miami Blue one. As soon as I saw it ( I was looking for a black 🎸) I liked the color. As soon as I played it, I knew that this was the guitar, it fits like a glove. The neck on the pro 2 telecaster is 👍. It's definitely different than my 🇺🇸 strat. I even checked out the fender 🇺🇸 performer 🎸 and it is a nice guitar but the pro 2 telecaster is the one. It's sad that 🇺🇸 lost the cutting edge in the market, back in the 60:s , 🇺🇸 products were made to last and with integrity. Then the wolves in corporate 🇺🇸 & politicians sold out 🇺🇸 due to greed ‼️ I think people in 🇺🇸 needs to understand why things are cheaper in other countries, the work conditions are not like here.

Squiers are wonderful and I recommend it to anyone starting out, but what most people forget is, the U.S Fenders are like a Rolex, they'll just appreciate in value and their qualities are much more superior to the Squiers. Holding the Pro II has made every squier I've ever held, feel like a toy. Which is not to diss the squier, they're super great and can get you to where you want to go, but man does the Pro II just make you wanna PLAY! Keep up the good work bud!

Gotta totally disagree with you here, I got a pro II last year and I also have a Squier CV tele. In no universe is the Pro II $1300 plus better than the Squier in fact I prefer the Squier. I assure you the Squier CV tele aint no toy in a good players hands. The pro II fingerboard was a hot mess with gloss pooled up at the base of the frets giving it an uneven look, I see that on almost all pro II teles with a maple fretboards. The Squier on the other hand has a perfect flat gloss on the fretboard. No gloss pooling at the base of the frets and the Pro II had horrible seams showing and 4 pieces of wood made up the body! Only 2 on my Squier. I sent the pro II back and could not be happier. Also, your tele wont appreciate in value, at best you will break even and most likely lose around $300. All you have to do is look on ebay to see that unless the guitars are very very old, everything else is pretty cheap and affordable. Relatively speaking the Squier is about the same when it comes down to selling. Yeah its cool to have an American Tele I get it but from my experience it was a huge waste of money for something I already had and just as good. PS I am not just starting out, have played and gigged for decades. I will put my Squier up against any Pro II any day. Too many cork sniffers out there, the Squier CV does exactly what a tele is supposed to do and handles more distorted tones way better than the pro II. Plus I got a nice part of my vacation paid for with the money I save sending the Pro II back!!

Great review! I am in need of another Telecaster. I have the Fender modern player in black with a maple neck. Love it. But I would like another backup one. I play a lot classic rock stuff, AC/DC, Beatles, Green Day, Skynyrd, Stones. I would like a guitar that handles overdrive well. I have Les Pauls and SGs for Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, stuff. But I love that Tele twangy, quacky, jangly sound. Can you please recommend one? Oh I forgot to ask do you notice between a maple and a rosewood neck? I feel that the maple has more "snap", a brighter sound. Your thoughts please. Thank you again.

Thanks Angel! If you're looking for twangy and jangly, then of these two, I'd go with the Classic Vibe. I't be great for the Beatles, Skynyrd, and Stones stuff. Either that or get the Am Pro II and change out the pickups to something more vintage/classic Tele. I prefer the feel of the Am Pro II. If it's in your budget, the newer Fender Vintage II look really nice as well, but I haven't played one. As far as maple vs rosewood fretboards, I definitely notice a difference in the feel. I much prefer the feel of rosewood fretboards. As far as sound, there are too many other variables for me to say for sure how much the fretboard wood is contributing to the sound differences between these two guitars. Personally, the feel and look are my main concerns regarding fretboards. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!

I have 2 Indonesian made Squier Classic Vibes (70's Telecaster Deluxe and 60's Custom Esquire) and they're both very good quality so I don't think there is much difference in quality between those and the Chinese ones. Classic Vibes are allways great value guitars. It's hard to beat them in that price point. I also have 2 Mexican Fenders (Noventa Telecaster and Cabronita Telecaster) wich are amazing instruments and then I have the American pro II Telecaster. I got to say the neck in the pro II is just superior to anything I've ever played before. You just don't want to put that guitar down. One interesting fact by the way is that in the Classic Vibes you get a real bone nut where the Mexican Fenders just have a "synthetic bone" nut wich is really plastic. I think that's pretty crazy considering that the Mexican Fenders cost almost double as much as the Classic Vibes. 🤷🏻

That American pro had a very different character to the classic vibe. It’s particularly evident on the slides and double stops on the neck pup - the notes just blend beautifully on the gap, less so on the cv. I prefer the fender to the Squier, it’s a lot more lower midsy, while retaining sparkle amd the twang sounds really good to me with it. I get other comments though, and it’s my taste. I’m wondering why you think this might be, I realise a lot of people don’t think tone woods play a part but that kind of subtle difference, just feels like the woods rather than pups, and there’s a rosewood vs maple (I think) fretboard there for starters which just makes your eyes think darker sound

Beginning to think EVH was on to something by not wanting to even put a tone pot on his guitar but as for me I like having a good tone pot and the right cap on it. Saw SRV up close in concert once and noticed he was all over both volume and tone pot constantly.

Hey Eric, thanks for watching! 👍 I honestly have no idea if the Roswells are the same as Tonerider and copying Seymour Duncan, etc. I don't follow that stuff much. Maybe someone else will see this and can shed some light on that. As far as tone and volume, those are absolutely great ways of getting different sounds from a guitar and I do use them a lot - at least the ones that work. On lefty guitars it's really hard because some lefty guitars come with actual left handed/reversed pots and some come with right handed/standard pots and just wired backwards. Backwards wired audio taper pots don't work well as far the taper, etc. They are just kind of on and then off. The few guitars I have are all so different in this regard. I'm planning on changing them all over to correct reverse pots in the future. In comparison videos it can be a little hard because you can never turn them down exactly the same. Wide open is kind of the most "same" setting that reduces variables.

Fender USA guitars these days are over-priced and not worthy of carrying the name. Classic Vibe are great for the price. The American Fenders are better and they honestly have much better hardware, but the classic vibes are still great guitars. People like to put them in competition with one another but they aren’t really in competition. They’re both fairly priced and they are both good guitars. I own both and they both serve specific purposes. To sum it up…The classic vibe guitars are great! The American Pros use much better hardware and they are much nicer though.

Thanks for watching Troy! Agreed, they really aren't in competition - they are definitely for players with different budgets, etc. But like you said, they are both great guitars! When do you choose to use the CV over the Fender?

The CV definitely does what is says and leans more toward that classic Tele sound. The Am Pro II is a bit of a different thing. Especially with the design of the pickups. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for watching @txkflier ! I checked out your channel and showed my kids your F-16 Falcon video. They thought it was so cool! We then went down a KZread rabbit hole of F-14s, B-52s, etc. 😅 Always wanted to fly RC planes as a kid, but wasn't able to. Definitely on my list for when life slows down a little.

@@DadRockAndGuitars I’m blessed to have an Ultra Strat. But yesterday in the store I tried a bunch of Teles from the Squier to Player to Vintera up to Ultra. The Squier was quite heavy to pick up and the very glossy neck isn’t for everyone but I agree it’s a brilliant guitar for the money, well built and intonation was spot on all the way up the neck and I actually enjoyed it more than the Fender Player. The 50s Vintera was fun to play but you have to like that 50s pick up sound. The neck on the Pro II tele is just beautiful, and the pickups and push pull give you lots of tonal options. The Ultra tele was nice but I think more for you if you like hotter tele pickups as apart from that I didn’t think it played better than the Pro II. All in all, we have so much choice these days and I think Fender and Squier have both really upped their game in the last few years.

@@jacksonmiked We do have so many great choices these days! There's something for everyone. I also preferred my Squier CV to the Players that I tried. It seems that the weight of Squiers can vary a bit. Mine is almost exactly the same as my Am Pro II. I haven't played one, but the Ultra Strats look like great guitars as well 👍

While they are different takes on a Telecaster, they are both Telecasters made by Fender. So I'm not entirely sure why it's "apples and lemons". These are the guitars that I owned at the time, and I personally found it to be a helpful comparison when deciding which to keep and which to sell. I made this video in case others find it helpful as well.. I don't have the financial means to buy any guitars I want just to compare, but I am willing to accept financial donations to make that happen. Thanks for watching Robert. Have a great week.

Yeah, I really like this one! I haven't played a newer version so I can't say from personal experience. I've heard some people say the same thing you do. And I've heard some say they like the new ones better. ha ha. Good news is, you can still get the version I have used. If I were looking for one, I'd probably stick with the pre-2019 since I've had such a good experience with mine. Thanks for watching!

Yeah, the initial experience with the Fender was not what it should have been for sure. I do think that left handed guitars tend to not have as good of setups, etc. Still not ok, but it’s a pattern I’ve noticed. I will also say that once the initial issues were resolved it’s a fantastic guitar. It’s my #1 and best playing. But honestly absolutely nothing wrong with the Squier either. It’s also a great playing and sounding guitar. Thanks for watching and appreciate the comment 👍

There is absolutely nothing i like about strats. I hate the way they look first and foremost, cheap and generic. That plastic thin sound is almost cringe territory, the active electronics do not help. What really sucks about a strat is seeing someone trying to play metal with one. 😅

Nice to watch you'r relaxed presentation about this subject. Wow, that you had to do all that set-up work for a US made Fender that costs about 4X the price of the CV. Lunchbreak for the quality control person? There is absolutely nothing wrong with guitars that are crafted in Indonesia nowaday's. Look at Sire guitars f.i. ( among many others) High quality guitars, in every respect, for the price you pay. Compare what an American craftsman would earn to that of an Indonesian worker. That's the bulk of the price difference, Indonesia ihas grown inmensely in their professionality regarding making guitars. They'v learned a lot. No way a US made guitar is always better than an Asian one. ( Korea & Japan!!) These day's are over. I own a 50-ies CV Squier Tele from Indonesia. Bought it as a B-stock offering. There was absolutely nothing wrong with it. But modding guitars became a hobby during the corona years when i had to spend a lot of time at home. Learning from YT. So in this guitar i swapped the PU's. In the nechk i put a Seymour Duncan Secret Agent, bought from Ebay, specialy made for under the pickguard, hidden Esquire PU with the Brad Paisley specs. But i just use it as a normal neck PU. In the bridge i'v put another Seymour. This guitar is a-ma-zing. That satin feel of a glossy neck can be done in 3 minutes. Use a Scotch Brite pad and some iron wool after tat. Everytime i visit , from time to time, my music store and try out real Fenders, i hardly ever find one that feels and sounds as good as my Squire CV Tele does now. For a fraction of the price.
