I have a class A chevy motorhome with a 454 engine. Like an idiot I gave my then girlfriend a set of my keys but when she broke up with me she refused to return my keys. I already had the door lock re-keyed but now I need to replace the ignition key. I already bought the ignition switch and with your totally awesome video will be replacing it but I need to buy both pullers. Thanks man for giving me peace of mind.

Glad it helped you out, they are TMI bucket seats. I ordered them through LMC Truck years ago.

Hopefully this is what i need to do to fix my 85 c10. Replaced the neutral safety switch, and when i went to remove the key it wouldnt come out.

Seats are TMI Brand. Console is out of a late model Silverado.

I was able to remove a buddy of mines without a key. Took a little more force but was able to get it.

my lock cylinder wont go into the lock position only neutral do you think this would help (1981 chevy k10)

Yes the column should be the same. The cylinder should still come out without the key.

My 89 k5 is parked in front of a coffee shop. Key wouldn't turn from lock, got the accessory power with some serious force but no on or start and tried about everything. Wheels could turn with some force which concerns me. I'm hoping this is the fix. Any suggestions? Will I be able to remove the old cylinder in the lock position?

The old cylinder should come out wether it’s in the forward or lock position.

It should still come out without having to turn the key. Turning it just makes it a little bit easier.

I want to go ahead and replace my ignition lock cylinder but it’s stuck one click before turning the engine over could I still remove the cylinder or does it have to be in the starting position?

You should still be able to get the cylinder out, having it in the start position just makes it a little easier.

When I reassembled mine, the lock plate is not within the housing, all parts are back the same lock plate ring is in place, I can push on my steering wheel and it wheel go down feels probably like a 1/4”,,, also the horn button doesn’t have much push down either now, along with horn not blowing either. Anything I need to recheck?

@@3rdGenC10s I checked today and yes, I squished the spring a little and everything set a little better, my horn doesn’t work now, all contacts are intact inside for it, not sure other than that, fuse is good

Is the lock plate cover necessary? I bought a c10 with an aftermarket steering wheel and it didn’t have the lock plate cover

Headliner fits great, speakers are garbage and need upgrading and a amp to power them.

Would this be the same for a manuel? I dont know the column differences

I’m unsure on the differences as well. I’ve never torn into a manual column, I wouldn’t imagine there being much of a difference between the two.

Hey bro.. Appreciate you making this. I put a new cylinder in my 85 today with no problems. Thank you. The only problem I'm having is it won't shut off. It starts just fine, but I have no accessory power or ability to turn the truck off. Any idea?

You could check the rack on the steering column and make sure the rod is contacing the ignition switch and disconnecting when you turn the key off.

It’s going to be much easier with a steering wheel puller. I’m not saying you can’t get it off without one but if it’s been on there for awhile it could be a chore to get it off.

Sounds like you’ll need to go deeper into the column and replace some pieces. I don’t exactly know what they are called lol

The cylinder should still come out, turning the key just makes it easier.

the lock plate will only fit in one position on the shaft,unless someone before you has forced it.

Yes it does, someone turned it past crank before i got it running. So starts with and without key

I watch a guy charge another guy $300 to do this. It was his only transportation for work. He told him he could show him how to do it. He refused to do it. He then told the guy. I’ll give you $300 to do it. After seeing this. I wish I had made that money 🤣🤣🤣

Here's my problem, I broke the wiper part of the stem on my 86 C10 in other words I still have turn signals left & right...99% of the video's say to replace the whole stem by simply disconnecting the wire under the dash and that it will simply pull out, my stem wont pull out! even went to the local junk yard and practiced on several 80s C10s, NO PROBLEM! they all pulled out! went back home to try mine...again it wont come out! you're saying theres a nut that needs unscrewing by tearing into the column??? now I know my C10 has different year truck parts...it had farm lights on top of the cab too, really confused!

There are some years where the turn signals and brights are on the turn signal stock, I think 84 and up. I think on 83 and up you can twist them a certain way then pull them out. Without seeing a picture of it I can’t really help you out.

Have the same issue with mine. Tempted to replace as i have it, just no puller or lock plate holder... same time im tempted its stolen 😂 Dont think my ignition is turning to lockout position. Did for the mechanic that did freezeplugs, just no dice for me.

The lock plate tool and steering wheel puller are cheap. Anytime you get into the column you will need them.

@@3rdGenC10s well, bit the bullet and did it knowing it would be a PITA. Took 2hrs and slit my hand open, but its in and solved my problem. Do have a that flat plate behind the 3 screwed piece and the retaining clip not in as forgot. The lockout plate is seated right. Its togethwr and will hold. I dint have a horn anyways as well.

It’s not bad. It was on a parts truck I purchased and just threw it in there. I do prefer a regular cloth interior over the high liner though.

Yes sir, mine has been off a couple or more times. You are supposed to replace them each time. I found using a pick to remove them is the easiest way.
