Good video, very informative. First use video and shows errors in the system, which occurs a couple of times. I was initially looking for videos for a simple review. This was a great example. I was interested in getting the Grand Kingdom, but after seeing this example and reading about other failures....well, my interest is lost. Thanks! Tremendous help!

Thank you, I am glad you found this video useful. Honestly I think if my board didn't glitch, I think I would find it very useful as it is very convenient to be able to play on a physical board when you don't have a physical opponent.

Hey Al, Thnaks for the review. Did you end up getting a replacement for this? How did it all go? I was thinking of getting a grand kingdom second hand.

What model is this? There is no Kingdom model from Square off? As far as I can tell they only have 4: the Grand Kingdom (which has parking), the NEOz (no parking), the SWAP (the NEOz but with other games) and the PRO (the roll out non auto move board). Can anyone tell me what the actual size of the game are is bc Square off says the GK and the PRO are tournament size but the GK, the NEO, and the SWAP are the same board with slightly different features.

I never clicked on a video so fast. I'm really excited for the Square Off Neo.

Why don’t you move the captured pawn off the side as the board may be detecting that the pawn is still touching a square ?

I bought one the last year to be able to play touching real pieces. I was scared because it was a large travel from USA to Colombia and I thought the machinery could be arrive broken. I received my Kingdom set on july and since then I really have enjoyed playing chess with real pieces with people around the world. And the wood of the board is very beautyfull. I love it.

I'm sorry to see that this board is glitching out on you! On the bright side, I thought that the way you showed us the glitch, and the way you explained how the board has no clue which pieces it's touching, to be very interesting from a scientific perspective. So, at least this video serves as a good documentation of the mechanism. I hope they get back to you with positive news!

Phantom Chess board. Can't wait for it

I am wondering if this is the same as the new NEO or is the NEO improved in any aspect, i.e. speed, piece size weight etc? I have prepurchased the swap. I am interested in seeing the faster mechanics in motion.

Neo is basically this board, the three main changes are: Made of other materials/smaller (lighter) 1.5x improved speed Cheaper

I checked it out and I'm concerned it's a scam. They only wanted $6000 for the initial KS and they're giving a fast ship time. I donated but I'm scared.

@@gomcse i hope not! It seems like they put a ton of work into this for it to be a scam. Now, I am definitely worried that there will be a lot of technical issues with the first edition. I am hoping they do a lot of testing before they send out the finished product.

Thanks for the good quality review. I'm sure this is a well-made set, but I'm not convinced it's going to help the average club player.

How has the board been holding up?

Did they discontinue the Zagreb pieces

So the first review I watched should have turned me off to this product because of how much noise the Ford makes. But in this video I don't hear any noise. Have they made it quieter? Also, can I set this to just play a game against itself? I remember seeing an ad on Facebook for some type of automated chessboard that would run various combinations of moves all on its own, so it looks like you had a chessboard just playing against itself. It would be an interesting decoration

It's not super loud but if you have someone sleeping in the same room while you are trying to play, I would think you would wake them up. You can play against a computer and I believe against other people too!

This chess set looks super cool, I ordered mine 4 moths ago. Let me tell you a bit about the pros and cons: Cons: * Delivery time is very slow and constantly increasing * Support is not very helpful regarding tracking of your product. Pros: * Don't know, haven't gotten it yet.

@@iluminatibox9949 Not yet but I canceled the order on Christmas and when I got my monet back, I ordered it again to get a -50USD Christmas discount. According to the order tracker, it has been shipped on Feb 19th, I should ask them where it is. I don't think everyone waits equally for the chess set though, I assume they are producing batches like once or twice per year and judging by the expected delivery time on their website, they probably have chess sets in stock right now. I'll give an update once I get it.

So that means any pieces that are magnetic and not heavier that the pieces that come with the board will 100% work then??

From what I was able to determine, seems like you might be right, I think as long as there's a magnet and the pieces are not too large in the base and not too heavy, should theoretically work

I've read reviews about this board where they face the same kind of issue with the board acting up and making wrong moves, and that's without buying the board refurbished. The worst part is that they get a replacement board with the warranty, and when the new board also acts up, they won't replace it because the replaced board isn't covered by the warranty. It's all a little shady. Not the type of problems you expect from a company which portrays itself as professional and elite, and at such a steep price non the less!

I think the idea behind the board is great and I am thrilled to see that there are companies like this that are taking the time and money to improve something that others are not doing. Perhaps one day with enough research and design it will be perfect!

this is a really cool concept but i feel like it's way too clunky for the price especially after being around for a few years, the noise it makes and it knocking over pieces it's just not very polished for $500 i would expect something higher quality.

I agree with you! Pretty much same thoughts. I have been looking at other electronic board models but everything is very expensive. Perhaps in the near future I could get a DGT eBoard.

Sucks they sold you a broken board. I've had 2 kingdom sets since they were released and haven't had any problem with them. Great board. A larger board and pieces would be nice, but I'm sure that's in our near future. Keep up the great videos.

@@AlSuChess Hopefully The House of Staunton does the right thing and replaces the board or offers a refund. Refurbished electronics can have some cosmetic issues, but should not malfunction.

Great question, no it seems like there's a battery inside, so I was able to play without having it plugged in.

Ty, I ordered two of these boards on Black Friday one for my Father and one for me and still no tracking on my order spent almost 1k on this and so disappointed!! Sucks that this company advertises that if you buy their product you will get it by Xmas and then give you bullshit in return. Great review but too bad you are doing a review on a bad business..

Yes it is unfortunate! I don't have an a recent official rating, when I played a decade ago, I got to around 1600 but with school and grad school, I didn't have the time to get higher. Now, it's probably pretty crappy to be honest with you, I am hoping one day when the kids get older I'll have time to improve.

Square Off doesn't even offer this board anymore.
