This isn't a very good test. The cuts are too far apart so the diameter of the log changes. Also, you're not cutting all the way through so you're basically stopping at random. I tested round against hexa chains right out of the box cutting cookies and there was no difference in speed.

I cut to the same spot each time, and if anything the log was bigger on the square ground cut...and it was still faster.
